Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Since when?

Maybe it was the 3 goals he kicked in our win against Geelong last year. I must have pegged him for having a sense for goal all the way back them. But, your right, what has he done lately.

Nope. We've been very good in the wet this year (Hawthorn, Port games come to mind). We've mastered the art of getting it forward at all costs a la the Hawks. If it's wet we will smash them even harder.

We have been quite good, but also had our worst loss for the year in the wet (Sydney).

I don't generally like to bag our players, but Mitchie is a spud at AFL level and a waste of a supplementry list spot.  In the numerous chances he has been given to play at AFL level, I haven't seen him play a half decent game yet.

Whilst I don't think champion data points always tell the full story, they do give a fair indication.  Mitchie's highest AFL score this year is only just above what Harmes achieved last round on an off game.  Mitchie's best score is lower than Jack Grimes lowest for the year.  I don't ever recall seeing Mitchie do anything impactful at AFL level, yet players like Harmes and Grimes regularly put their bodies on the line and create pivotal moments in matches.  Harmes games against Gold Coast and Hawthorn were excellent IMHO.

I would have named a slightly underdone Salem as an emergency over Mitchie any day and it bemuses me that the match committee didn't go that way.

Not having a go at u Rod but I really hate that term "spud".

Any player on an AFL list has done more than us keyboard warriors.

I would also be very proud of them if they were my sons

Please show some respect.

Maybe the group think on Harmes was right after all.  That has caught me off guard, I've got to confess.

Best of luck to Michie and ANB.  Say what you will about them as players, one thing you can definitely say is that they've had to go down the hard road this year to get their chances, and have sustained high quality VFL performances all year.

I don't get the changes either but I guess it keeps the team fresh. Clearly the coaches don't think Kennedy or Salem are in form, as they seem the obvious replacements for those omitted.

i thought the same thing.. i went along to training this morning, but missed the first half hour or so.. arrived just to see ben ken leaving the paddock. salem trained well and looked crisp. not really a small forward option though.

Any of these guys bought in this week should be going at it flat out.

Could be a good thing.

It actually has taken me a while to realise how bad Carlton's list still is. Which players with genuine quality will be lining up for them this week? Cripps, Gibbs, Weitering (who's looked absolutely spent the last few weeks) and Docherty. Should destroy this mob.

Totally agree - in any field of endeavor there are some who succeed and others that don't, but spud and dud just do not give respect to those who have got where most of us could only dream.

Though I have doubts about his inclusion, it is a bit much to be calling Michie a 'spud'. That's a term best reserved for senior public servants. "Head of Census and change management at the Australian Bureau of Statistics, Chris Libreri, is a spud", that would be fair.

ANB deserves a crack and hasn't really been given some clear air at AFL level this year. He's got very good competition on the list for the role he usually plays.

Michie is playing for his career - but I genuinely thought that decision has been made given he's not shown enough in my opinion to keep. I'd suspect if JKH or Salem had more game time at Casey they would have come in.

Pederson is paying for not doing the team thing last weekend when he had options and took the shot and missed it. In his own words he has to do the little things well to maintain his spot. He's not the future, so I don't mind getting games into the Weed.

Wouldnt surprise me if Hogan didn't come up either, given some reports floating around.

We should. We're Melbourne. Nothing is certain.

I feel that Michie is in many ways playing for his spot on the list. He's been a disappointment for me since crossing, I'd read quite positive things about him but he's rarely shown more than just being an accumulator.

I'm hoping we hold onto ANB but I wonder whether this might be an opportunity for us to show off some depth and get some interested parties looking our way.

I would love to see us monster a team, put the competition on notice for 2017.

Not a fan of the changes, but I suspect we feel we can get away with it this week. I've been pretty supportive of the changes for most of the year. I think they've been pretty spot on, but Michie has no future at this stage (doesn't have a weapon - isn't an accumulator; isn't damaging enough with his disposals; isn't fast; isn't great above his head) and ANB has consistently shown this year that he's not good enough for AFL level (another who lacks weapons).

As much as I've complained about Harmes' poor disposal, at least he is tough at the contest, quick and gets the footy. Michie (his presumable replacement) is none of those. Pedo unlucky, but I'm more excited to see Hogan and Weideman play together for the first time.

It's pretty much the same mob that beat us last year. Yes, I know we've improved dramatically, but it's all about mindset this week. We should win and win comfortably. Let's see what our boys bring. I reckon Carlton will be fierce early. If we can smash them in the first term, we could be looking at a 7-10 goal win.

I said that about Port last week... and they were poor, and they were going in to the game with an outside chance of a crack at the finals.

The Blues are playing like a side who can't wait to head to Bali.  I expect us to belt them from the outset.

Pleasantly surprised by the changes. Michie is better than the no hoper he gets painted as on here, and ANB has smashed the door down. Good luck to both.

i would've kept Pedo personally but if Weed is fit then he has showed he's capable.

Harmes has been treading water for a while, it was only a matter of time before he got dropped. His kicking has cost him just like it cost M.Jones a few weeks ago, we are weeding out the poor kicks from the side so I'm not surprised that ANB and Michie are now ahead of him.

We need to get games in to the Weid so I'm content to see him  get a game ahead of Pedo.

I don't understand the replacement for Garlett surely Kennedy was the perfect replacement. I don't know what he's done or not done to be offside with Roos.

I don't know what to expect from this game, are we going to be the clanger king Demons (Essendon game) or world beating Demons (Hawthorn game). We must smash them no excuses.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
