Who do we choose mate?

If it was me I'd go with ANB. His form has been amazing, has a good tank, has played well as a small forward before (Geelong last year) and is more versatile than the other two. However, gut instinct tells me it will be Kennedy. JKH has had a struggle of a year so might not have the tank to run out a game at AFL level yet.

Wet: BenKen
Dry: JKH (if enough match fitness, he was out a very long time)

Could even consider Salem, move Harmes back forward and Salem into the role Harmes as been in recently

I want Salem back in the team but not as a defender. As good a player as I think he'll be, I don't think he'll ever be a great defender.

It's been mentioned he's been playing in the midfield at Casey. Can anyone elaborate if this is still the case?

He has been playing a high half forward role.  He wasn't that impressive on the weekend but let's get him in.

Doubt very much Jeffy will play if he has a skin infection on his foot.   JKH, its your time to shine. And what a game to play in, against the team thats allegedly offered him a 3 year deal.

Also the early forecast is rain...  if that happens we will destroy them. This team is built for wet weather although they seem to go alright in the dry too.

Carlton were way more cringe inducing with their #1 picks than we ever were with Watts.  They also tanked, but got away with it for some reason.

If Jeffy is out, then I wouldn't rush JKH in just yet. He is still only just back from some pretty significant hamstring injuries..

From what I am hearing, it could be wet on the weekend, so ANB to come in for Jeffy and provide some tough contested work up forward.

The current Melbourne forecast for Sunday is "mostly sunny" or "partly cloudy" (depending on your optimism or pessimism).
The predicted rain is 0mm and chance of rain 10%.
Temperature 15C.

At some stage we need Salem's skill in the team, the only players I can see making way would be Harmes, Bugg or vandenBerg,

Garlett's two goals at the end will keep him in the side (they were incredibly important in the scheme of things) but ANB, JKH and Kennedy are all putting pressure on that small forward position.

I like Pedersen in the team because of the structure he provides and as much as I want Weideman back in (he's pure class) I can't see a change here. Hogan needs to sort himself out. On a side note, why does Hogan always wear a jumper about three sizes too big for him? He must be the easiest player in the team to tackle because of this.

Sadly, any inclusion of Grimes, M. Jones, Dawes, Trengove (maybe), Dunn or Garland would be a step backwards.

In summary, I have no idea which changes should or will be made this week.

Still annoyed with Pedersen  because he missed open goal from 20m out @ a crucial time in the game with noone in front of him. A professional footballer shouldn't miss those.

The lynch mob would still be burning an effigy of Dawes if it had been him that missed that goal...

Garlett is an interesting one. He missed one gimme (hit post) and his mark from just in front was wrongly not paid by maggots.

So, so close to 4 goals and we would all be saying what a great game

Not sure if you listened to the Casey game on radio yesterday, but the commentators were laughing at how bad Dawes is and how he cant hold a simple mark. The guy even has concrete hands at VFL level.

Disagree. Reckon Garlett was okay work rate-wise. Vandenberg's the guy I'd be dropping. He wouldn't have marked a beachball last night. And he continues to be a contender for our worst handballer. Most of them go at the feet of his team mates.

Vandenberg is our bull in the packs. Does a lot of under stuff at speed, hits hard, they will know he's around in a young Blues side. We need to destroy that previous bruise stuff

plus that they will be up for this last possible win of the year for these laddies. Agree Garlett will stay. And i would add ANB, this sort of game will suit him and i would give him a license. I reckon Murphy will be in.....

This from the Met Bureau looks encouraging. Other sources a bit more pessimistic on rain. Anyway it is far too early to predict for next Sunday

Sunday 21 August

Possible rainfall: 0 mm
Chance of any rain: 10% rain_10.gif

Melbourne area

Partly cloudy. Winds northerly 15 to 25 km/h increasing to 20 to 30 km/h later.

I guess he only got three goals (and praise for his game on the MFC Website, but what would they know?)

I disagree with the sentiment here. Murphy and Gibbs have been good players and Kreuzer has been good when he has played.

Does a lot of work off the ball, Dawesy.. actually, does all of his work off the ball...

Presuming Garlett is out

Out: Garlett, Harmes

In: Neal-Bullen, Trengove

Absolutely love Harmes and I feel he's come on in leaps and bounds this year in regards to his aggression and defensive ability, but his foot skills leave a bit to be desired.

Trengove deserves another crack before the year is out...unless his papers are already stamped.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
