Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Happy for this to turn in to a "who do you think wins?" thread, but I see the date for this year's B&F count has been published.  It will take place this year on Tuesday 6 September at Crown.

https://secure.ticketdesq.com/book/index.cfm?fuseaction=main&TicketDesqID=1908&OrgID=1749&camefrom=EMCL_1216554_46712391

A couple of comments;

1. WTF is it on a Tuesday for?  I was planning on going for the first time ever, but can't justify spending the $250 on a "school" night, especially as I always aim to get my ticket price back via the premium beverage package.  (Although $250 worth of Crownies at Crown is only about 8 bottles).

2. As per the above link - how good is it that the club had to put the caveat "please note if the Melbourne Football Club make finals, an alternative date will be announced".  It's Round 21 and we are still a mathematical chance!

I too am hoping to make my virgin appearance down there this year, I will have to get some more leave and be kind to the boss too...
The boss at home as well as at work, considering I have been away from home for 3 months and get back on the 25th of August, the missus may not be too pleased with my plans to fly down to Melbourne (We live in sydney) for a couple nights.

Last three rounds will play a big factor in deciding the top five placings.

But for now...

1. Max Gawn

2. Jack Viney

3, Jack Watts

4. Nathan Jones

5. Dom Tyson

TMac, Vince, Kent. Hogan and Jetta (Not necessarily in that order) will round out the top 10.

Once again, can someone explain the current voting system? It could have an impact on people's predictions.

I came across this article a little while back and bookmarked it for this very occassion!  http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-06-15/midyear-best-and-fairest?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=RSS+feed%3A+AFL+Latest+News

The method of voting for the Dees was described as: " The votes are cast by four members of Melbourne's match committee who give players a score from 0-10 for each game".

It is unclear whether that means the maximum score for each game is 40 (10 from each voter) or 10 (if the four voters agree on a score per player in toto).  It is technically possible to win the B&F and not ever be BOG.

Max and Jack V have been the most consistent so they would be best placed to win.

Has to be Gawn, but I think Jones could go close. He has been very consistent and for the most part lifts when we need him to. The coaches clearly rate him very highly.

Viney missing a couple will hurt his chances.

Viney will probably vote in more games and Max did have a quiet few games mid-season. Ireckon Viney's consistency will get him over the line.

After these two, it is a raffle between N Jones, Watts and Tyson.

Cheers LH - that's what I thought, but also not sure if this equates to a maximum score of 40 or some coaches' composite out of 10. Or if there's some mechanism to counter reasonable absence, such as discounting the bottom handful of individual vote scores? Could probably discern the former by digging up an old vote tally. Anyways, with Roos' focus on footballers playing their role, it could throw up a few surprises as graded to expectations rather than talent. He's made mention a few times after decent performances that Max has some things he needs to work on. Meanwhile, someone like Bugg could be doing exactly as asked week in week out.

Viney only missed one game.

Considering he missed 6 (I think?) last year and only lost by 1 vote to Bernie who had a blinder of a season, I think Viney will win it easily. Been huge.

1 Viney

2 Gawn

3 Jones

4 Watts

I think Watts should win it.

Considering where he's come from, the environment he has been in and his improvement he deserves it IMO.

Nah Wattsy will win it next year when he goes to another level.

From last years B&F the 4 voting members can vote on as many players as they like with a maximum of 10 votes per player. So, Yes the max a player can get is is 40 but remember in a game like last Saturday they may give 5 or 6 players votes whereas in a poor game say like Sydney in Sydney only 3 or 4 players get votes. So it is not the same number of players drawing votes each week which complicates things a little more.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
