Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

This is a joke.

firstly, I assumed Rioli got a fine for the tackle, but no nothing there, instead a fine for a perfect bump to the body.

secondly, Sicily was deemed as medium impact. Are they joking.

third, Mitchell was said to have made a pushing action, not a striking action. Now I know they are taking the p155. All 3 decisions farcical IMO

Oh, I am not surprised at all.

TBH I would have been fine if Mitchell got off, or only copped a fine, as it really was quite minor, but to say it was a pushing action and not a striking motion is just ludicrous

I kinda think that Riolis bump was a good one.

It was damn close to being dangerous but just got him low enough.

Mitchell getting off is an absolute joke though.... open hand?!?!?!

I think Cyrils is about right, it was reckless but he pulled it off, just. To say Mitchells was a pushing motion in hilarious. I bet Tom Hawkins is really happy with that interpretation!

Not surprised there was no mention of the spear tackle either.

Sicily, 1 week

Mitchell, cleared.

Mitchell lucky considering Hawkins went 2 down to 1, for equal or less!

I look at those names and have to feel for Sicily, If only he had a differnt name he would have gotten off. Maybe he should consider changing his name to James Hodge, James Rioli or James Mitchell just to ensure this doesnt happen again

Sicily deserves the week.  Rioli I thought is stiff, that was a great bump.

Mitchell should have been cleared.  He slaps his at most afterwatts grabs hiya face. Nothing in it.

Sicily and Mitchell correct - I give up with Rioli decision. Its either high and he gets rubbed out or, as they deemed it to be the body he gets off - so now players get a fine for hitting a player with a legitimate bump ?????

The bump is well and truly dead - as much as i hate to say it - if i was the Hawks i would appeal the Rioli decision - once they deemed it "not the head"  - he should have been cleared.

it was an open hand.. they showed it slowed down on the Sunday footy show - it was open hand.

It is not  decisions that are wrong in the last two  - it is how they are worded.

The Rioli decision is plain wrong - or they have just changed the rules on bumping without telling anyone... no head no fine...

I'm really looking forward to Cyril playing in a struggling Hawthorn team when Hodge, Mitchell, Burgoyne and Gibson all retire at once.  It's just not possible to replace that much class.  Cyril and Lewis trying to carry the can.  I think we'll see some frustration.

They graded the Rioli hit as to the head but low impact?

If that's the case then Rioli is lucky Oliver is as tough as anything otherwise he'd be facing weeks.

no - they graded it to low impact to the body which makes it more ridiculous.

It was high impact but it was to the body-  still trying to figure out how he could get fined for it.

If it was the head he would of ( make that should of ) got weeks.

Directly from the MRP statement:

Based on the available video evidence and a medical report from the Melbourne Football Club, the incident was assessed as careless conduct with low impact to the head. The incident was classified as a $1500 sanction. The player has no applicable record which impacts the penalty. An early plea enables the player to accept a $1000 sanction.

All bias aside, does Rioli deserve weeks? I thought there was some head contact, he left the ground and went past the ball to bump.

Do what we say and we'll look after you.Ok

I'm tired of their slurping ways and their false family club image.

Hope they get slapped around heavily.

We made them look old and slow-hope the other teams can wipe them out for 2016.

They cant even get the reporting right !!!

Charges Laid:

Cyril Rioli, Hawthorn, has been charged with engaging in rough conduct against Clayton Oliver, Melbourne, during the first quarter of the Round 20 match between Hawthorn and Melbourne, played at the MCG on Saturday August 6, 2016.

In summary, he can accept a $1000 sanction with an early plea.

How bizarre is that !!

I am tipping it has to be the one that says head - or he would have ( should have) got weeks.

But if it is a bump to the body i am trying to figure out why he got fined at all !

To me it was 3 weeks or nothing - bizarre ! ( either way it is wrong)

okay - now it says head - YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME !!!!!! How can you get a reprimand for that !!!!!!!!!! If he choose to bump and hit the head it has to be weeks. I don't give a rats the Clarrie got straight up ( i do actually). How about you smash someone in the face with a fist and if they dont stay down you claim "insufficient impact". The MRP is a joke of the highest order.

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
