Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I told you all we'd do it & today is the day we arrive... You fkn beauty, I almost cried on the final siren

After cheering myself hoarse (to drown own an exceptionally obnoxious conglomerate of Hawk fans), I did get a lump in the throat singing the song with my 8 & 6 year old girls after the game. Neither could fathom that we hadn't beaten the Hawks in their lifetime.

The look of wonder on my 8 yo's face when I told her we just beat the top side was gold. She's already seen her fair share of losses, so yesterday was pretty special.

A couple of times Rioli picked up players from the legs and drive them almost head first into the ground, reminded me of an illegal Rugby tackle. I think they actually paid a free against him for the first one then play on was called for the next. Surely these sorts of tackles constitute a dangerous tackle and would be worthy of being reported. Am I being too harsh?

Already mentioned no doubt, but Gawn and Viney were a dynamic duo. I lost count how many times Gawn flicked the ball behind himself and it hit Viney on the chest who was able to run clear.

Can't you can't past 5?

It's understandable that most of us have focused on the young talent that was on display yesterday but I'd like to acknowledge the work of the coaching staff. They've copped a fair whack from Demonlanders regarding their game day tactics throughout 2017 but they got it spot on yesterday. Our structures held up impressively. Hawthorn very rarely had the ability to move the ball laterally across halfback. This is their bread and butter but we forced them either into error or to kick long regularly. And they love to use their kicking skills to pin point targets inside 50. In addition to working our backsides off to pressure their halfbacks, the defensive run from our midfield was excellent, rarely allowing Hawthorn time to deliver with purpose. We were well prepared, well organized and the team had the right mentality to action the gameplan. What excites me most is that it is a gameplan built around winning clearances and working hard into space and having 22 players understanding their role when they don't have the footy. We now have a critical mass who get it and believe in it. Hard at the contest and hard running is not new but is so much easier to talk about than to implement on match day. We implemented it for four quarters against Hawthorn and we did it with a bunch of kids.

Fantastic post

Wins like this are a culmination of a lot of training, attempts, failures, losses and regroups.

I have never seen a Melbourne side stand up in tackles, handball creatively under pressure and find space to use a meaningful possession like this side does.  I thought that was just something other sides did.  It will come unstuck again occasionally, but we can do it and do it well.

Hopefully the kick it long brigade will STFU.

Just watched the replay and it is always good to have a closer look at the game on TV, there are a lot of things missed over the other side of the ground.

The commentators really are a/holes, they pray at the alter of Rioli and fawn over the Hawthorn players, it's always, wait for the Hawks to hit their straps, it was as if they were waiting and hoping for us to falter. When that idiot Brown came up with the Snow joke I nearly smashed the TV, it's probably the most overdone piece of crap I've ever heard, if that's the best he cam offer then the 21st Century needs to update him.

The young kids don't take a backward step and I've never seen a Melbourne side so hard at the ball and it's not as if they lack talent, they just combine both elements.

I'd say that was the best game of football I've ever seen Jones play for the footy club, I don't recall him making one mistake.

The longer the game went on the better we got and the more the flaws in Hawthorn showed up, they have got a few problems, none more important than an ageing group of senior players, you can always tell when footballers are getting on, they whinge to the umpire a lot more. The pressure we applied showed up their deficiencies.

We will win the last three games.

May this thread never end...

Just wanted to mention the importance of Petracca when he doesn't have the ball. The kid is like a bulldozer, he moves whoever or however many people he wants. Anyone trying to do the same to him is like hitting a brick wall. Incredibly strong, and he's just a kid. Cleared many a path yesterday that resulted in us getting them ball and probably won't get the recognition he deserves.

I love that he's more than just a high talent with the ball.

And getting in Duryea's face after that epic fail was beautiful. Unsociable football comes back to haunt.

And we didn't overuse the handball for probably the first time this year, which was so important since Hawthorn murder you on turnovers!

Mark Riciutto during the Adelaide game said he asked a former Brisbane player how many he'd kick against the current Lions, and he said 8. They laughed that the player was Jono Brown.

I'm sure ol mate Sauce Merrett would love hearing that.

Speaking of standing up in tackles that little dinky kick from Watts to Tyson in the last was awesome. The goal wasn't too bad either!!

It's panic free footy, Watts would have coughed that up before he got contact in earlier days.

Where do people rate Tyson now? Anyone rate him yet? Has had an outstanding and, dare I say it, 'elite' second half of the season. Averaging 25 disposals this year too (career best). I reckon he's going to be special, because when he's on song he's a goal kicking mid and they're worth their weight in gold.

Imagine him playing alongside a more experienced midfield too.

Brendan McCartney's influence on many of our players is vastly underrated. As soon as he came to the club our blokes started standing up in tackles. Coincidence? No.

Maybe you should check Dawes stats from last week before crowing about Pedo ...,pretty much the same except Dawes 5 tackles ...Pedo 0...,the only reason Dawes wasn't played was because Roos said his body wouldn't handle a six day break ..,,neither player is our future but think you're being rather unfair

Scarcely come across a Dees supporter that doesn't believe this should be Dawes last year. More important that a forward leads strong and MARKS (let alone smash the pack). You can keep the forwards that drop marks and rack up tackle counts following up from their fumbles.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
