I wonder whether we were sitting in the same area, I was only 11 but I feel like I remember that. Of course it was satisfying watching the Wiz continue to destroy them!

Thankfully I don't feel like those flogs would last a second at the ground this day and age.

I would've been level 2 AFL members - I reminded him about some other guy he may have heard of called Nicky Winmar and he settled down after that. Was a lunatic though.

In the first 90secs of play Gibson gets a dubious free for high contact when Pederson went for a punch. Gibson is whingeing to the ump for a 50m. Later when a free is paid to Weideman for a blatant high contact Gibson is again mouthing off at the ump.

That free against Gibson, and the later one on VDB were really odd. The umps took forever to blow the whistle each time, as if they'd clearly seen the infringment, but there was some other consideration impacting the decision. Something like 'Can I get away with not paying that one' perhaps?

I realise the difference between a punch and a slap, but what I don't get is which part of the following equation would change if it was an open hand?

Contact - High

Intent - Deliberate

Impact - Low

I guess the impact of low goes to [censored]-weak, but surely the other 2 categories mean he's still [censored]?

Flip side of the coin, we really need them to beat Norf, well.

The Weideman one was ignored by the ump 5m away and paid late by the one 35m away.....

I dont ever remember 2 frees being paid so late within the same game. Solid 2/3 seconds each so bizarre.

I think both were paid by one of the umps down the field and not the ump closest. From watching I got the feeling one of the umps was actually doing a good job, he was calling what was there. The other two were muppets. I think this caused the high contact to Jetta not paid and the high contact to Cyril paid moments later, I would go with not paying either as they both ducked.

The impact may go to the insufficient force which wipes the whole report. Would be joke if it was though.

We were switched on right from the get go. Brilliant first goal. I find it amazing that at round 19 they can still manafacture set plays like that. Gawn to Jones to the player running to the contest (hand balling to players on the move makes such a difference), Hunt in this case who has the courage to keep running and authorisation to have the shot from outside 50. Great stuff.

Set plays are easy with big Maxy Gawn!! His ruckwork is head and sholders above anyone else in the comp. His follow up is still a little inconsistant but when he is on he is an extra midfielder. When watching the replay i believe i heard he has the top 3 or 4 Ruck to Rover combinations. Having so many is just beyond brilliant. We are fast becoming the competitions clearance experts.

The Hawks drop to their knees all the time, particularly Gibson. Mitchell and  Rioli. Jetta didn't do so or duck his head. Incredible it wasn't paid a free kick, made all the more galling when rioli did duck a few minutes later and was paid.

Whilst i'm on this theme i find it so annoying how Mitchell carries on when he thinks he deserves a free kick and how some of their players give stupid wry smiles or shake their heads when they have a free kick paid against them, regardless of how obvious or blatant the free is. Case in point from the game was Burgoyne doing both after getting Weideman high. By the by that free kick, which was there every day of the week, was an example of one paid by the central umpire (who was some 40 metres away) not the umpire right next to the contest

Are there still people who think we haven't improved? Where did they go?

Would we be the only side outside of the 8 that hasn't lost a game by 10+ goals?

We've essentially been in every game in the last quarter bar perhaps Sydney.

Cyril can accept $1,000 for rough contact

Sicily, 1 week

Mitchell, cleared.

Mitchell lucky considering Hawkins went 2 down to 1, for equal or less!

It appears you can spear tackle at will in the AFL, with the proviso you are wearing the poo and wee colors.

Sicily deserves the week.  Rioli I thought is stiff, that was a great bump.

Mitchell should have been cleared.  He slaps his at most afterwatts grabs hiya face. Nothing in it.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
