Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The bigger question is what you are going to do Biff when the Gatwick gets sold off?

We have found bones and neolithic implements in the back Courtyard that appear to be of cultural significance.

We will be finding more Wurrendjerri artefacts in the next few months as well and reporting them to the relevant authorities which should slow the project down significantly.

You know little of what you're talking about. Fitzroy people fought for their club till the end and a few players were moved to Brisbane in a piecemeal response by an AFL run by an ex St Kilda player ( one of the least successful clubs anywhere in any competition ). Fitzroy was punished because unlike South Melbourne they didn't fold like a pack of cards. I met Alan Aylett who was VFL president when Sydney was set up a few years ago and asked why they sent South to Sydney and he said ' you should have seen their books ", and I thought your ex club is North Melbourne for goodness sake.

Fitzroy members at the time voted for a merger with North Melbourne and the commission rejected their wishes and packed them off to Queensland thousands of miles away instead. By the way Fitzroy at the time had 8 premierships ( 2 more than Geelong at the time ) so really when you think about it AFL/VFL premierships mean sweet F all.

Whilst I obviously don't have the inside connection or recollection that you do, what I was meaning by the Fitzroy and perhaps the Sydney relocations to some extent, was that these clubs were able to retain more of their identity than what we would have in the proposed merger with Hawthorn.  I know many an older Roy boys and Bloods supporter who are able to still proudly support their respectively relocated teams than I think I'd be able to if we jettisoned the demon, threw yellow in there and added some stupid Hawk.

I do recall how hard Fitzroy fought to keep their club afloat and that they did pretty much fight until the death.

What I'm saying is that though I actually voted for the merger at the time (along with might I add the majority of MFC members), in retrospect I'd rather fight to the death for club survival or wait another decade to actually see us win a premiership (though I sincerely hope that's not the case) than to cave into a merger and try to buy our way to success that way, at the same time as selling out the soul of the club.

Joe showed the sort of passion for the club that many at the time did not (including a number of former club champions) and put his money where his mouth was to boot.  I don't forget that.

If times ever get so hard that I am forced to live in Romsey at least I know me old mate bitters will welcome such illustrious company. I would expect the masters chambers at the manor. And all the good hospitality these simple folk are famous for.

Especially after all the VIP treatment he has enjoyed at the Gat thanks to yours truly.

Melbourne supporters do owe old Joe and Don Scott some fair gratitude.  Without these two guys, we'd all be following the Dorks or some other gastly almalgimation, not sitting on the cusp of a resurgent, competitive Demons team.

At the time I was actually pro-merger because I was so desperate for that success, but in retrospect I think I'd rather the club go bankrupt and team be forcefully relocated to the Gold Coast or Tasmania or something similar to Fitzroy than merge with any other existing team.

My view is that at the very least old Joe deserves some dignity and respect from Melbourne supporters from what he did and tried to do for the club.  I don't recall the politics which resulted in his departure from the presidency, but I think at his core he's one of us - a die hard, heart beats true for the red and blue type of guy.

That's what I would have thought, however I bumped into him at a mining conference a few years back in HK, asked him about our "beloved Dees", was pretty ambivalent, didn't want a bar of it, strange.

An update on some wheeling and dealings:  http://www.theage.com.au/business/mining-and-resources/diamond-joe-dealing-until-the-very-end-20160713-gq4xlv.html As I stated earlier he will be fine!

It is well known that business people own very little in their own name...wives, families, Trusts and Off-shore companies come in very handy! Good Tax spinoffs too...

This reminds me of when I worked for a major consulting company and chatting with a senior Partner about 'Professional Indemnity Insurance'.  He said it was fine to have but all his assets were in his wife's name!  I asked what if 'Mary' (not her real name) leaves, you?  His answer:  'If she goes, I go with her'!  Made me laugh a lot.

Own nothing in your own name, create a labyrinth of business structures and have a good army of lawyers.  That is just the way it goes in the world of big business and 'powerbrokers, unfortunately.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
