Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

POST MATCH DISCUSSION - Round 15

That was frustrating. The Crows were off and that was more than winnable. Sloppiness cost us big time. The number of handballs that were off just enough to put the receiver under the pump was very frustrating.

First ten minutes of the third quarter, they kicked four unanswered goals. Crucial. Should have been us.

First 10 minutes? They kicked 4 in 4 minutes of play. Our players came out asleep and it cost us the game.

After 6 minutes of the 3rd, it was 5 goals to 1, and a handy margin quickly turned into a small mountain to climb. As I said earlier, Adelaide were off and ripe for the picking, we just didn't grab the game by the scruff of it.

Cool, well you're in the right place, because if there's one thing you won't find on an internet forum, it's predictions, guesses and opinions.

You're hanging your hat on "Oh but we'll win against one of them soon because I say so, so everything is great!".

That's the first loss that has genuinely hurt in about 10 years! I really think we could've won and would still be a sneaky chance of the finals if we had. I spose that's a good thing.

Clearly, the bit that cost us was the first five minutes of the third! We came out asleep and copped 4 goals in 5 minutes! I was hoping we would do that and ice the game.

We over handball against the good sides because they put more pressure on us. This means that the first or second handball in the chain is slightly off and puts the receiver under pressure meaning they have to handball again, rather than have the time to pick out a kick. It's really not simply a case of the players choosing to handball instead of kick. It  will get better as the team gets better.

There's a lot to be excited about. As disappointing as the loss was, we had them on the run for large parts of that game. And, I know we've all been waiting a long time, but we are actually younger than we have been in either of Roos' first two years. I'm bloody excited about the future.

And I think Jayden Hunt might be my favourite player!

I'm not. See how that works?

Ok. So why did you challenge my prediction if you're not interested in it?

Anyway, your assertion that our improvement is brought into question by the fact that we haven't beaten anyone that we didn't beat last year is a false economy. We didn't beat Essendon last year. Would you be confident of our improvement had we beaten them by a point? Would you be unimpressed if we beat the doggies or the cats by 20 goals? It's just a stupid stat. We'll probably win a couple out of Freo, Saints and Carlton. Does that make us world beaters in your eyes?

That 3rd qtr barrage of early goals killed us. They got easy centre clearances which resulted in quick one-on-ones that their forwards won. Roos then had to play Watts as a loose man to stop the rot which also hampered our ability to kick more goals that qtr too.

We were worse than either of them easily. We basically went 2 years where we could only beat the 2 new teams.

That might be the most frustrating loss we've had in years.

I disagree with those who think Adelaide was "off". They played this game how they play every game. Do they have a single player out injured? (Seedsman maybe?). But we tightened up in the contest in the second quarter and hit them harder. We forced them into mistakes through the middle and we were bold going forward. They lifted in the third and for the first 5 minutes we couldn't match them at all, but we steadied and evened it up. Had Kennedy not rushed his shot on goal in the fourth, we'd have had all the momentum and only 3 points down. Could have played out very differently from there.

It felt like 23 vs 21 out there with Dawes. Every time he went near it he stuffed it up. Can't mark, can hardly move, can't kick, can't handpass, can't or won't ruck. Must, must be dropped.

Compare him to Watts who was brilliant everywhere (bar the goal he gave up to Betts when he went to ground). Rucked, spent time at FB, and still dominated forward with 3 goals.

Garlett showed why we need him firing in our seniors. Kent was much improved. It's all been said but Hunt is a gem. Petracca showed he can move through the forward line. Jetta again stood up as a true leader down there.

In defence, I actually thought that, as defenders, Frost, TMac and even OMac looked fine. The problem is when we take possession - all three are awful kicks (OMac is scared of kicking it, though), all three make poor decisions, TMac and Frost try to take it on without thinking too often. Defensively, I was impressed, but I was disappointed offensively with these three.

Gutted, but there is still plenty to work with.

Finally, to quell all the crap from people who don't think we've improved because we haven't beaten anyone we didn't beat last year (a pretty dumb analysis IMO), the fact we are this upset about losing to a premiership contender who has hardly been troubled for the last six weeks should, when coupled with watching us play, explain to you that your analysis is baseless.

Too many mistakes that cost us. Tysons dropped mark in the last which resulted in an Adelaide goal and ultimately ended our chances is just one example of an error riddled game. The fact we are competitive after turning the ball over so many times give me hope. Just need to stop screwing things up.

We lost to Essendon. You can live in fantasy land if you want, up to you.

The rest of your post is just silly, winning games is not "just a stat", it's the whole point.

And again, I'm not interested in "we'll probably win....", how has that worked out for us in the past?

Talking about improvement, not being "World beaters".

Sure is. Anytime Dawes is fit, Roos picks him over Pedo.

Dawes does compete and throws his 105 kg around but he cant mark or kick goals. He just isnt that skilled. He was great in Collingwood as a second to Cloke in a team that provided much delivery but he is a shadow of that player today. Maybe its confidence but we wont win games with him in our forward line.

A third forward tall is desperately needed. Peferably one that can ruck

Yep. I was being charitable. At the end of the second we were in front after a storming eight goal quarter. Start of the third was our chance to come out red hot and make a statement.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
