Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Yeah that was a blunt and uncalled for remark. But i just think Frawleys apology was right.  It was insensitive but it was not meant to support violence. I say that sort of thing as banter among my friends too and they do to me, water off a ducks back for us because we dont mean anything by it. I dont think they meant anything by it either. Actions speak louder than words for me and all of them do anything to support non-violence causes, which i think should be what rings through when it comes to these kinds of things. But sure we can crucify public figures for their words, I challenge you to spend that long in the public view and not slip up once in a while.

I don't think the comments when taken in context are as bad as some are making out. My problem is that Eddie refuses to acknowledge it was a poor comment in the current climate and he's sorry for making it. He just makes excuses and uses the old "I'm sorry if you were offended" approach. Accepting how it has been received by some and apologizing to the person it was aimed at doesn't have to mean he thinks the same as them, it just means he understands that not everyone will think how he does, and that's where he fails as a broadcaster, repeatedly. My problem is more that he won't see it from someone else's view, cop it, make amends and move on. There's bigger issues in this country than his fragile stubborn ego.

Sums it up for me

Have a watch of this video, it explains the power of words and attitudes that go with it and why this is an issue in stopping violence against women.

I don't know any of the three men at all and will as such give them the benefit that they are not violent or abusive, I have no evidence to say otherwise. They are in a position of influence, especially over the not so wise amongst our society and as such need to be very careful with these things. I think they get far too caught up in all the boys club crap that most football clubs go on with to even really know what is going on outside of that fishbowl. One a side note, that boys club crap is exactly why I stopped playing footy at under 19's, too many idiots going on with this sort of bull.

I think that the conversation was only identified by someone listening to a podcast of the radio show a couple of days ago hence it being well after the fact.

As for the comments making light or suggesting it is funny, the issue at hand is trying to create change in attitudes amongst the general public towards women.  Love her or hate her Caro is disproportionately set upon due to her gender.  To say that you have a joke like this with your mates does not make it right; rather it demonstrates how much of a problem it is.  These guys do have a moral compass (Barrett actually distanced himself from the joke at the time - kudos to him) but they choose not to use it.

As long as the people who are making these comments are white middle aged powerful men we have a problem that needs changing

(Spoken as a white middle aged man BTW)

Classic way of non-apologising (and I don't mean about this issue, just generally)

See, this is exactly the point with domestic violence.

'Mates' just 'joke' with each other about it and 'don't mean anything by it'.

Except that this is exactly what fuels the attitude that it's ok.

And I'd argue it's a hell of a lot easier to attend some stupid event and give lip service to a cause (any cause, that is) than it is actually back it up with consistent words. What you call a 'slip up' I call 'their real attitude'.

I don't like the suggestion that I think domestic violence is ok. Because thats not what I mean. What they said is wrong and no doubt it shouldn't have be said. But it was not said suggesting domestic violence is ok. It was said as a critisism of her journalism. Thats why i feel like they are being hung out to dry a little unfairly. I dont support what they said, i dont like some of them in general but that doesnt mean they should cop all the heat for a social issue.

They may be bogans, but this suggests that only bogans would behave this way. It does bogans a great disservice. Comments like this come about because of the boys club type mentality. They also come about due to bias, ignorance, over inflated egos and inappropriate attempts at humour. It comes about due to a misguided attempt to entertain. In one case, it comes about because the guy also has a bully type mentality. Most of us have also had occasion to make or have a cheap laugh at someone else's expense. Most of us immediately regret and feel guilt in so doing. Most of us learn from our mistakes. In this case, these guys and one in particular do not learn.

Excellent summary Ernest ............ fools and buffoons all 3 of them.

I actually don't think Eddie is to in the wrong, his call about pushing her down the slide is fine, he over stepped the mark saying he hoped she stayed under and Spud ran over the line and kept running water boy style when he came out with jumping in and holding her down. JB really had little to do with it.

What's wrong with 'Gee what a crap journalist with no integrity' (or something else relevant to their professional relationship) rather than 'wouldn't it be great to drown her'.

Big difference between arguing about something or even questioning someone's journalistic integrity and wanting to "smash Wilson to a pulp".

Really poor comment.

Still missing the point WYL. I remember all the heat she copped for her journalism, but I don't recall anyone ever saying they wanted to beat her. Other than you just now.

The point Stuie is making is did she cop threats of violence (smashed to a pulp)? Nothing wrong with questioning her writing or integrity, heaps wrong with threats of violence.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
