Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Gee. Everyone here is pretty generous. Jeffy has always been prone to sheet himself, and Saturday was no exception.

Oh dear................time to take a month or so away from Demonland again. Unfortunate because I enjoy reading so many people's comments and then I have to suffer this tripe!

Conditions sucked. It was like a misty, soupy morning on the Western Front circa 1916. Hard to judge a floater coming in.

And yep - I give Jeffy the benefit of the doubt on everything.

I had no idea you were that old RB.

One more chance I think.

But he's had more off days than on days this year, even if he has a skill set most of our players don't.

Cuddle or whack is up to the coach. Either one starts with explaining the mistakes and why they aren't tolerated and from there it's a matter of how you get the best out of him.

FMD twice over!!! Give the guy a [censored] break. [censored] me we eat our own on Demonland.

Note that I started the thread through a sense of outrage that the footy media had run with the interpretation they did!!  He most definitely did not squib it from where I was sitting.  He'll come good this week, no doubt whatsoever.

I am pleased to report that in a recent visit to London i could uncover no further evidence of any pie floaters Man. The last visit, 42 years prior, they were still up and about. I will never forget my first

Not sure about the mustard gas but the cream teas and Bakewell puddings are still going strong! ^_^

I haven't seen the incident, but overall I couldn't care if Garlett shirked a contest. He is a whippet, and a very intelligent player, it isn't his job to go all out. He isn't even that type of player anyway. He is a patient guy who takes advantage of his opportunities - generally kicking clutch goals when doing so.

Just looked like he misjudged it from where I was sitting... I certainly didn't think he pulled out due to lack of balls.

My recollection is that once the ball went over his head he didn't try to get back to contest the ground ball, leaving it to the two Hawk defenders to do what they like.  Misjudging is one thing, not contesting is another.  Yes, there were 2, yes they were bigger but he didn't even give chase to put some pressure on.  They just waltzed it out...

Jeff could take a leaf out of Eddie Betts book...his goal last week (maybe GOTY) was the result of desperate ground work.  Is Jeff happy to kick a few goals running out the back and from opportunistic plays or does he want to get down and dirty and like Eddie sometimes kick a bag of 4,5,6 goals?

Jeff can be as good as Eddie if he wants.

His choice.

Damien Barrett in his "Sliding Doors" this week:

Melbourne
IF there was one certainty in AFL team selection ...... THEN it was Jeff Garlett's omission this week. In a Paul Roos-coached team, you can't pull out the way he did against the Hawks.

That only proves now that anyone who thought he squibbed it are wrong.

He chased hard as he always does. Have another look at the replay. He chased hard trying to make up  for his error.

The very notion that Roos would drop a player for just 1 poor effort is a bit insulting to Roos dont you think?

For once I think Barrett is right.  Garlett definitely shirked it, and was dropped as a result.  I was surprised at the time he wasn't dragged. If anyone doubts it watch this again from 4.30: http://www.afl.com.au/video/2016-06-06/this-dee-failed-the-moment

Does anyone seriously think a player of Garlett's ability misjudged that ball? Why weren't his arms extended further? He was clearly worried about what was behind him (and let's face it, he tends to avoid heavy contact in aerial contests).

I don't expect players of Garlett's build and type to throw themselves into physical contests regularly - they are more dangerous hanging back for a loose ball.  But the incident on Saturday in the first quarter was simply a case of not going when it's your turn.  It was a critical moment and a scoring opportunity missed.  We had no hope of beating Hawthorn if any player did that.  The fact that Jeff otherwise had a bad game wouldn't see him out of the team for this week.  But the coach/selectors have done the right thing sending this message.  What would Kennedy/Michie/Grimes/ANB and others think if Garlett remained in the side?  Standing firm under the ball in that situation must be a non-negotiable at our cub, and I for one am glad that it seems now that it is.

This is the problem. Everyone is watching the video of it and no one is listening to the people that were actually there.

Exactly, the video is front on and does not show the depth accurately at all. No excuse for misjudging it so badly and no doubt he had a howler of a day, but saying he flinched is just ignorant.

The incident aside I reckon Jeffy's form the last few games have dropped and that he deserved to get dropped. He needs to go back to find it again in the two's. I don't believe that incident alone caused his ommision but it sure did not help his case.

I reckon he will come back from it and be better for it. Go Dee's!

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
