With you on Kennedy and Garland for Harmes and Omac and would like to see Grimes get an opportunity.  However, a) don't think they'll make 3 further changes after 5 last week (unless by some travesty Bernie is suspended); b) Vandenberg has to be given an opportunity to find form (as do Dawes and Trengove).  And none of the three were horrible.

Yeah, I don't think vB was horrible, but he'd only played half a game for Casey before coming back and I'm worried his fitness isn't up to scratch yet. You're right that 3 changes might seem a lot this week so the Grimes/vB one is least likely, but I'd just rather go in with a fresh and fit team.

Garland is another fortnight off with his cheekbone so forget his return next week.

I reckon I could give you a more accurate and on-the-money- assessment tbh.

a hairline cheekbone fracture is often only a week.  Cotchin was touch and go to play after a week.  And we play on Monday.

OUT: Harmes, vB, OMac

I know, I know, Grimes and Garland. But we need some experience in the backline, it's falling apart. Grimes has been consistently good for Casey and I have a feeling Garls will come back in. Grimes in also means we can keep Vince in the middle more which is important as evidenced by his game on Saturday.

Harmes needs a spell, has been inconsistent the last few weeks, BenKen had a ripper game and will definitely come straight back in. vB wasn't terrible on the weekend, but didn't look 100% and he didn't impact enough, let him get a bit of fitness back at Casey until the bye I reckon.

I Garland fit? I thought he would miss 3 weeks.

Apparently Misson said he'd be 100% right for QB.

I'm not a big fan of Grimes or Garland, but I just think they might get a call up for the sake of experience, and in Grimes' case, rewarding VFL form.

Might see another player rockin' the head gear

I will be very unhappy if they play Lumumba after so long out, he surely needs a week or maybe 2 in the VFL before coming back, just for the run. But assuming Garlo is right to go then I think changes are spot on.

I didn't particularly rate Dawes' game yesterday but they're not going to drop Dawes after one game.

Have we dropped anyone this season after one game? I'm not sure. We gave Michie, ANB and Newton at least two games each.

Stretch played against North then out the next week?

Jetta Frost Garland

N Jones T McDonald Wagner

Stretch Tyson Bugg

Petracca Hogan Kennedy

Garlett Watts Kent

Gawn Vince Oliver

Grimes Hunt Trengove Vandenberg

IN Kennedy Grimes Garland (if fit)

OUT Dawes O McDonald Harmes (if Garland fit)

  • Kennedy should never have been dropped.
  • I understand it was wet against Hawthorn, but Dawes doesn’t provide enough in the air to play as a permanent forward. So I prefer the balance of our side with an extra runner and Watts continuing to play second ruck.
  • Grimes has been in good form in the VFL and will offer more than Oscar this week. If Garland is still unavailable, it means our defence is shorter but it still includes T McDonald, Frost and Wagner.
  • I would play the skipper in defence. As much as we lose grunt in the middle from shifting Jones back, we gain his kicking and intensity in the back half.
  • I also think that if Trengove is going to play, he needs to play more of a defensive inside role. Jones shifting back allows him to play this role.
  • Kent was better against Hawthorn than Port.
  • Harmes has been quiet and is looking tired. He only misses if Garland is fit though.

Not too sure why people are suggesting to change the back 6.. They were under extreme pressure in the last part of the 3rd quarter and 4th quarter and held up quite well. The only change is if someone is injured or sore.

As for the Midfield - should remain the same, with Spencer the only possible inclusion depending on the Pies ruck choices and the weather. If wet then Gawn will ruck by himself.

Forward line, Kennedy to come back in for Harmes as the only change. Dawes will be much better next week with Jesse and I am sure Garlett will also set himself for a blinder.

Looking forward to seeing more of Dom Tyson and Petracca in the middle for longer.

THe  changes after Port were almost wholesale by Roos' std. He's more incremental. I expect a return to that with only Harmes for Kennedy as a change.

Normal programming resumed

I see that Casey v Collingwood is the televised game on Saturday (2pm):

http://www.foxsportspulse.com/assoc_page.cgi?client=1-118-0-0-0&sID=91640&&news_task=DETAIL&articleID=34956277

Aside: on Sunday July 3rd we play the Crows at the MCG at 3:20pm and Casey play the Toigs at Punt Road at 2pm (game also televised). An 11:30 AM start time would have suited us, given that Richmond play July 1st.

Do we know why Dunny isn't in the side? I heard a rumour that he turned up to training drunk/hungover..... hence being out of favour and loosing the Vice captaincy.... Can anyone confirm this? or has anyone heard a similar story?
I heard this from a MFC Hall of Famer... that we are family friends of.... Although long since retired and not in the inner sanctum.
I just want to be clear (as i posted something last time with a slight misunderstanding and got ripped to shreds on here)
Sooo this is something i have heard, only here-say until other people can corroborate it.

Would explain things

Ta. Still a 2pm start means i can catch thye firts half then wander over to the g for the crows game. There should be more of these opportunities.

Why is everyone dropping O Mac despite him playing his career best game?

i reckon his older sibling made triple the amount of mistakes than O Mac did.

Career best game? WTF? Were you at the game? Actually, did you even watch it? You've just looked at disposal stats haven't you?

Again, Cloke and Cox loom as extremely dangerous for Collingwood..

I'm already having nightmares about it.

One of them could possibly kick 8 goals.

Pfft. Those two wont get 4 between them. Hell the Pies will struggle to kick 8 collectively.

I really hope Cloke gets selected. He is a complete liability. He doesn't do scoreboard damage and provides no run or forward pressure. For pete's sakes he barley scored a goal whilst in the VFL.

All the hoo ha about Cox is based on the story not the reality. I'll worry when he starts getting more than 10 disposals.

Cloke will be rubbing his hands together for Monday. Our defence needs to be solid regardless of their form to date.

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
