What a surprise! Free kick count at Simmonds Stadium 28 to 12 in favour of the Cats late in the final Qtr..... Any chance of getting a group of umpires who don't get swept up by the volume of the supporters?

Yep. Sacrificed sponsor money to show support for a player from the opposing team.

I long for the day when all supporters are not happy with any aspect of a loss.

I'm [censored] sick of it.

I don't think anyone was happy with anything we lost to Essendon, or St Kilda, or even Port last week.

We've had more than our fair share of disgrace, forgive those of us who can see positive moments in losses (else we'd all have given this up years ago).

Finding positives in a loss like today is vastly different from being happy with a loss.  I'm never happy with it, but I choose to see both sides of it as well.  It's not a pat on the backside to the boys, but there are always positives to be found, and if we didn't find them it would make supporting this club unbelievably difficult.

Can someone please get the footage of Stewart ducking to get a free kick and the umpire telling the Melbourne players that he was just bending down to pick up the ball?

It's in this article: http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-06-04/alastair-clarkson-post-match-press-conference

Seriously one of the worst decisions I've ever seen. Umpire was right in front of him. Regardless of what has happened over the last few weeks, that is a duck plain as bloody day.

Nathan Jones commented after the game that he was pleased to see Dawes back as he brought so much to our structure. I think Nathan carries a bit more weight to team selection than you do.

When will someone from our Football Department get the bloody umpires representative down to our club and sort out what we need to do to get the same interruputation of head high,in the back , kicking in danger etc etc... As every other team that we play against. I am over the dumb way we get sucked into thinking we can tackle, play the ball like the teams we are playing on the day and expect the umpires to see it the same way. We wear Red And Blue and umpires interrupt all these rules differently to a player wearing Brown & Gold, Black and White and every other colour combination. I blame the FD as they need to get the memo's and ask for clarification because the players haven't got an idea.

But then the umpire lied about it, that's what really grinds my gears.

Umpire flustered in the Vince incident. ( Shouldn't have been) 2 weeks at Shepparton. Clearly a baby slap. Umpire hoodwinked in the ducking incident of No.40 of Hawthorn. No

football intelligence to tell when he was conned. 2 weeks at Ballarat.

Neither should officiate in the big time next week. Both shockers.

The Hawks level of gamesmanship is top shelf. I was stunned at the opening bounce of the last quarter to see Hill having a fabulous conversation with Harmes, anybody else see this? I'd love to know what the hell he was yapping on about, even seemed to have Harmes on side with whatever it was.

Look at the start of the day I gave us no chance and was shocked when at 3/4 time we were still in it. Yes we need to get to that point where we should be angry we lost that game but geez we did play well today and 3-4 years ago if we found ourselves 23 points down we would have capitulated and lost by 60.

Thought we over used the ball by doing to many handballs to begin with. I know he wasnt always accurate but I liked how Bernie's first instinct was just to boot it out of the pack.

But what I liked about todays game was Tyson was magnificent today, it was great to see Trenners back and that game will give him some confidence and each week he will get better and better. We just kept at them and unfortunately there experience in that last quarter told the story. Plus the umps getting sucked in by ducking.

For those bagging Dawes I thought he was ok for his first game back. Yes he did fumble some marks but the conditions didnt help. He will get better. We need him as another target up forward.

The other annoying thing is we have dropped down on the ladder and now sit 11th.

I hated seeing it, more so because it was Hill and he is mentally fragile. Should have been getting stuck into him.

And his first game of the year, after a chronic calf injury, played in the wet.  In my opinion, Dawes' presence will make JH even more dangerous.  Cannot believe anybody could possibly believe it be reasonable to bag Dawes, after his first game for the year in tough conditions

I thought the difference between the 2 sides was their ability to hold the ball in their forward line and our inability to do the same ... our midfield, ruck work and clearance rate was more than decent and our backline was serviceable when considering how young and inexperienced our backline players are (as a group)

We could do with another defensive forward who can kick goals but we probably need 2 forwards who fight hard to keep the ball in ... the last quarter exemplified the advantage that the Hawks had in that area.

So often in the last quarter and a half our forward forays were haphazard without a lot of uninterrupted passages of play ... and we went too wide with those forays as well.  They on the other hand moved the ball so much better from their defence.  Our defence was under siege (somewhat) in the first quarter and in the last quarter and a half.

The two [censored] teams we all likely wanna beat the most, Hawthorn and North, we have lost to by a combined total of just 23 points this season, arghhhhh

And so it continues. Still yet to defeat a team we haven't already beaten last year, and still yet to defeat another team that Roos hasn't defeated in his 3 years at the Dees.

Eventually this has to change before we, as supporters, accept that we are legitimately moving forward as a club. God help us if we manage to lose to Fremantle.

I count St Kilda and Carlton as the only games for the rest of the year in which we'll go in with a better than 50/50 chance. We're going to have to win some of these games, some time, to get any improvement at all this year.

Edit: I'd be surprised if we beat Freo up in Darwin.

We haven't beaten the Saints since Roos arrived either, and Carlton have won 6 in a row.

I'd sooner rate our chances against Sydney, frankly.

The forward structure / set-up falls to bits when Watts is in the ruck. Same thing happened last week.

Too many occasions today when both Jack and Jesse were well up the ground, leaving just Dawes and the smalls near goal.

If they're going to persist with Watts pinch-hitting in the ruck, then Jesse has to stay closer to goal during those times.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
