Is Jetta our best Defender?

In my opinion yes.  He has improved so much and is our best run and carry out of defence.

Nev can play small and tall and reads the play very well.

I think he is in front of the others including TMac, TMac still has brain fades and is not as consistent as Jetta.

our defence needs more height but Garland and Dunn have not kept pace with the modern game. OMac is still a fair way off, so need to look at big guys in the trade period, to counter the big forwards. Still not sold on TMac but live in hope.

Of the older brigade (TMac, Garland, Dunn, Jetta) Jetta seems to have adapted best to the defend-into-attack switch thats underway in our backline, with TMac second and Col starting to nail it on the weekend as well.

Bodes well how well Jetta's done with it and that if the others can similarly adapt we'll be a much more potent team for it.

Yes, followed by daylight.

Didn't we recruit a tall, strong, athletic defender to replace Frawley? Should give him a go.

I'm really hoping both Jetta and Viney get some brutal tackles in on Wingard this weekend. Both should watch some Matty Whelan for inspiration.

Must admit I have a lot more confidence in our small/mid size defenders than our talls.  I can see Hunt, Wagner, Jetta and Salem, add in White as our key small/mid size defenders going forward and they will grow in confidence.  The flip side the McDonalds, Garland and Dunn bit of a concern here.   Oscar will be OK, his big brother needs to learn from Jetta and play with in his limitations.  Garland has brain fades, same as Dunn.  Frost needs to have a crack deep in defence.

Let's just hope he signs soon.  This will be his biggest contract and I have no doubt other teams will be sniffing around offering more money/years.

Not only is Nev clearly our best defender, but he's in the very top echelon of small defenders in the competition.  He would be a strong contender for AA honours if the side was selected right now!

Easily. I mentioned this is another thread the other day, but Jetta is an A grader now. If he was at a big club he'd be in the same conversations as Alex Rance etc.

This is a guy that wins contest after contest or at the very least usually neutralises them. What must be so pleasing for the FD is that now he's added a further string to his bow with his offensive ability off half back this year. He's an absolute gem. Can't speak highly enough of him.

No brainer - his reading of the play and deciding when to 'fly' and when to stay grounded is impressive as is his ability to effect spoils on bigger/taller opponents without infringing.

A living tribute to the benefits of hard work and persistence.

He's an excellent defender in any team, and our other defender's can't claim any great run of form at the moment.

I've been really impressed by, of all things, his spoiling efforts. Which is Exhibit A for both clauses above!

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
