Truck kicked 4 points.

He actually kicked 1 goal 3 points. One was stolen from him by a late incorrect review

Fantastic game from Billy. Will be a very good player for us. Love his pace and use of the footy.

Our decision making when we take a mark still annoys me more than anything.

There are four mistakes we continue to make:

  1. Play on too quickly before assessing the situation
  2. Handball sideways to a player who is under pressure and that player then does not have the advantage of a "free kick"
  3. Don't get back behind the mark quick enough and are forced to kick on an angle and not directly over the player on the mark
  4. Not aware of where the mark is an allow opposition players to creep over it and apply pressure to a kick that should have zero pressure on it

1 goal, 3 behinds

That score review was a total joke and as inconclusive as it gets. Total waste of time except to hurt us for no reason.

The review outcome was unintelligible unless they based it on things not shown on Fox.  Presumably the umpires called it a goal and even if you thought the review may have shown a touch, it certainly wasn't conclusive. So why not umpires' call?

Stretch 31 disposals, leading possesion getter on the ground.

No one predicted his rise would come so quick.

We seem to win when he plays.

I think his % of wins played could be the highest*

*Guestisticly.

I feel like Oliver continues to be underrated by all and sundry (bar Jay Clark) in the footy world. He is the stoppage king. The amount of times he set up attacking forward thrusts with his hands or kicks in general play continue to amaze me. He missed two easy shots but has forward presence. He's a clear rung above Petracca and that's no mean feat. However long we signed him up for during the week, double it now!

I feel like we didn't play that well yet came away with a 10 goal win and 130+ score. That's light years ahead on what we were seeing in the 2013-2015 era.

Rhys Mathison is a [censored] loser. So glad we didn't draft him.

Just think how much we've improved that we are complaining about smashing a team.

It wasn't a pretty win, but winning ugly is an important skill to learn. To win ugly by 10 goals is even better.

Take the 4 points and move on I say.

the scoreline flattered the Lions

Make no mistake we dismantled them.  Bring on Port Powerless

The fox commentary team was the worst I have heard in couple of weeks at least.

Pathetic.

First up, great to have a big win. It feels good to put away a team that we're expected to. Petracca, Stretch and Oliver looked awesome today.

Having said that, our backline is horrendous. A half decent side would have gone to town on us today and we were lucky they couldn't hit a barn door in the 3rd. We desperately missed Jetta's poise.

Has Dunn run over Roos' dog or something? OMac was way out of his depth today, getting out-muscled by blokes half his size.

Does Gawn need a rest? Hasn't been his dominant self lately.

It was interesting that they were barracking for the Lions.  Far enough doing so for a hopeless underdog.  Maybe I'm suffering from the usual supporter bias, but I don't recall them barracking for us when we were crap.

Frustrating as hell to watch, but I'll take it.

Backline was poor again, except for Garland who had a fantastic 1 on 1 game. Something Wagner could learn from as he seems to be all at sea when the ball comes in high...just can't seem to time a decent spoil.  O-Mac...well it was a game to forget from someone who's obviously not quite ready.  Needs to work on a lot of ground balls at training to start with.

Well done Billy Stretch, clean and effective game, knows his limitations.

Stretch is improving at a serious pace. His mate ANB was a good inclusion as well. Add Harmes, Petracca, Hunt and Oliver into the mix and we have a seriously good core of young talent.

Thoughts on Watts in the ruck? I only saw the second half, but I think we were at least no worse off than when are when Pedersen is in there, and he definitely makes a better on baller than Pedersen. If Watts is able to do this regularly, it makes it much easier to find a place for a genuine forward like Dawes, Hulett or Weideman when they are ready.

Good to see some of the younger players being the better mids.  Watts was immense today.

Bugg has some of the most woeful disposals then laces one out 40 meters to Harmes.

Gawn was quiet a again.

Got to win those sorry of games.Good to see us win it by 10 goals.

I ate victory donughts so thats always good.

Victory Donughts. Now Victory Bacon rolls!

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
