Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Fair enough, I obviously missed those posts...but were they fact or fiction?  You would have to think that if there was any real substance to them, that the press would have been making mention of this when discussing Hogan's future.

perhaps there has been an agreement to keep it quiet. Don't know.

How does Nat Fyfe feel about all this? can't imagine him being keen on coming to the MFC

I'm not disputing GNF's statement about Hogans Snr's health, but his assertion that Fyfe comes into play is ludicrous. One minute he is saying that Hogan wants to put negotiations on hold, which is fine. But does anyone seriously think that Fyfe is happy to make a decision on his future based on a contingency plan of another player? Fyfe becomes a FA next year and can walk to wherever he likes.

If this experience makes him change his mind and brings the "go home" factor into play, at least we will be well compensated, most probably with Fyfe.  Fyfe is a free agent next year. Fyfe has indicated he will entertain offers. Freo is much better off getting Hogan for him this year who is worth two first round picks rather than one first round pick (compensation) next year.  There have been discussions between the clubs.

Interesting choice of words, considering your emphatic statement a few days back was, "the trade will be Fyfe."

You're not giving the club much credit if you think we'd trade out a generational superstar for a player a) under a serious injury cloud for over a season that is b) a free agent next year who would cost us nothing. Why would Fremantle's draft considerations be even the remotest consideration for us? If Hogan leaves, we will bleed the buying club dry of picks just as Adelaide did when Dangerfield left. Did you see Adelaide asking for Geelong's 2016 free agents as part of the Dangerfield deal?

If the MFC had the choice between:

  • Freo's Pick 3 2016 (Hogan trade)
  • Freo's Pick ~5 2017 (Hogan trade)
  • Fyfe for free as FA in 2017

or:

  • Fyfe via trade (straight swap for Hogan)
  • A swap of second rounders

... no sane list management team would choose option 2.

I'm not interested in getting into your issues with GNF's posting, i enjoy his posts, if others don't that's fine.

the way he worded it made it sound to me as though if that eventuates Fyfe would be on board with moving.

Saber: I am just passing on what I have been told.  You can dismiss it or accept it, personally I don't care.

I have no doubt it's just what you're being told, but if it's the same source who also told you we would land Josh Kennedy, Patrick Dangerfield and Dion Prestia in the last 3 years, I can confidently say your source is having a lend.

All I'm pointing out is that your source's information makes no logical sense. Even if Fyfe were interested in coming to us, we would not trade Hogan for him a year out from FA status (especially when we have no first rounder this year, and Freo have pick 3).

We better not trade for Freo's future 2017 first round pick as they could shoot back up the ladder and play finals and then you're looking at pick 12-18

we definitely chased Prestia and Dangerfield, a trade not coming together doesn't mean we didn't try, or the club wasn't confident. we were VERY confident we'd get Prestia until the godfather offer from the Tigers.

Even if the whole scenario unfolded like that, I'm pretty confident Fremantle will be stuck at the bottom for another year at least. They'll lose Sandilands, Pavlich is gone, who knows what'll happen with McCarthy, Fyfe's injury still has a question mark, and they don't have much youth to carry them up the ladder.

Dangerfield was never interested in any other club than Geelong. We may have asked questions of his availability, but so would have 8 other clubs. As for Prestia, GNF was definitive that it was GC or Melbourne. I've said it before. GNF's source is clearly a MFC fanboy.

We went cold on Prestia Abe. It had nothing to do with the offer with Richmond. After Prestia went turned us down last year Goodwin had his eyes set on Oliver straight away as that inside bull hence why Goodwin came up with the recruitment team to Mooroopna to interview Oliver and get more of a background check to ensure he was the right player for pick 4.

Il put any money now Goodwin wouldn't be fussed on not chasing Prestia this year after the impressive first year from Oliver.

Prestia preferred homes was always the Dees. He was coming here until Richmond offered ridiculous coin that we were not prepared to match. If he nominates the Dees he will still come to Melbourne be it on a significantly smaller contract.

This is getting sad.

Hogans old man is critically ill. Do you all not think this has something to do with his below average last month and at times poor body language????

Nothing is going to happen with his contract while Jesse is going through this terrible experience. He is contracted for another year, has told the club he will stay a Dee, but all negotiations have been put on hold while Jesse concentrates on his family and father.

If this experience makes him change his mind and brings the "go home" factor into play, at least we will be well compensated, most probably with Fyfe.  Fyfe is a free agent next year. In saying that it is most likely that Hogan has not signed a new contract or asked to be traded by trade week.  If this is the case it does not mean he is leaving at the end of next season.  Simply he is concentrating on bigger issues at this time.

It is highly likely he will re-sign as a Dee.  All good management plans for the unexpected. The club has full expectation that he will stay.

Based on that information and in the belief of this common sense approach, i am not going to post or waste time on this thread until further believable information, in my opinion, is available

My info is different and from a source i very much trust but it's not really relevant because Prestia will be a Tiger.

Very happy to have Oliver, really think he could be the best of our young midfielders

Anyone who has or is living with a Family member who is terminal Ill can understand this

I take each day as it comes , I don't make plans  far in advance , for myself and my kids , our time with my wife ( their mother) is especially special to us ,

I couldn't imagine living states apart and having this happen.

Time to give the Kid ago , think about how you would feel watching , hearing , seeing someone so close , being that ILL

My wife tells us to go out , to enjoy ourselves, to be a family , as I am sure his dad would tell him to follow his dreams , play AFL, these things put a smile on my wife's face

for her to see us happy, makes her happy . I am not saying everyone is the same. but you need to understand how they and he could feel.

hoping my words will help some people understand what he COULD be going through , sometimes things are greater than our club.

As one of his sponsors I want him to stay but can understand otherwise, football would be one of the last things on his mind at the moment

I 100% disagree. If Hogan needs to go back to WA this year the dees would jump at Fyfe if that was an option and i for one would be well pleased with that deal. Fyfe is exactly what we lack - a true A grade mid fielder (note Viney will become one and i suspect Oliver will also and perhaps also Brayshaw).

Yes he is coming of serious injury but Fyfe is as good as Dangerfield. As if we wouldn't take him. The FA stuff is a furphy as one there is no guarantee that he would come to us and two if we lose hogan we would want Fyfe in next years team helping us make finals.

All that aside i really hope Hogan stays.

This seems to be news that no-one here has any knowledge of, so how do you think people would be taking that into account?

I have done some googling and the only reference I could find in relation to Jesse's father being ill, was from May this year and just happened to be from the poster Third Man Up on page 105 of the "The Incredible Hulk - Jesse Hogan" thread here on Demonland.  Perhaps you might care to point us to where we could verify that bit of info... it would certainly go a long way towards assuaging the fears of numerous posters in this thread.

Take it from me it is on the money I wont go into personal details But I have been aware of it for some time.  I had some posts regarding it removed from the thread.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
