Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

No chance, hasn't played all year, Mark my words the deal will be equal to a third round pick at most. Freo don't have a second round pick this year and there is no chance they're going to part with a top 10 pick unless GWS want to throw in Jonothan Patton or something else into the deal.

He's contracted for 2017, GWS won't give him up for a nothing pick that they don't need. If Freo are unreasonable, GWS should let him spend another year training with East Fremantle.

The Academy (and Father/Son) player 'points' draft system has changed the value of draft picks.  Last year pick downgrading proved that the academy clubs only care about 'draft points' not draft pick position.  (Which we benefited from).

GWS have 3 or 4 academy players in 2016 draft.  They have already stockpiled 2016 'draft points' from 2015 and are looking for more in 2016.  So 'a nothing pick' round 3 will be very valuable to them especially as it carries good 'draft points' given Freo's low ladder finish.

The astute judges are saying that three or four of their zone - cos it's a zone, NOT an academy if truth be told - are top 25 talent.

And that doesn't include Marshall, who seems likely to be pick #1 having been removed from the GW$ zone.

It's a farce.

I wonder if a Hogan contract extension is the first domino that will see Watts, Jetta and T Mac fall into place, or whether the latter three will occur first?

Ugh. This has already been discussed. A lot.

But just for you - He bought an investment property over there because he got it as a bargain. Have you seen the house? It's clearly not the residence of a future millionaire.

Jesus Stuie, he clearly hadn't seen those posts, are you incapable of just ignoring posts like that or are you hardwired to have a dig at every opportunity?

Right, so that's two posts now that are off topic and purely having a dig at me. You guys aren't seeing the hypocrisy in that?

I think the point is, you seem to have an uncontrollable compulsion to lock horns with any poster who disagrees with you.  Sometimes you just have to suck it up and move on Stuie.  Winning battles won't necessarily win you the war, in which you always seem to want to engage.

Stuie's response might have been a bit over the top, but to be fair the whole 'house in Perth' thing has been discussed to death on here already, and multiple people already posted that news in the past week. Could be a good idea to have a quick read of the thread before posting something like that for the hundredth time.

Why do I have to log on from a third world country and be "entertained" by this banter? Can't you guys revert to the topic of the post and open up a new post where you can snipe away at each other?

The question I have to ask is: why is there suddenly such a high concentration of high quality kids coming out of this area?
Yes, prospects have always come from the area, and some really high end ones too... but why so many all of a sudden?

Is the quality of these players being overexaggerated by those locked out?
Is GWS really putting the effort in and developing these players better than the traditional states?
Are the junior development pathways in the traditional states poor/under-resourced/neglected?
Is the game easier to learn than ever, meaning prospects need only athleticism, good character/work ethic and decent motor skills to succeed (not necessarily footy-specific skills or game sense/footy IQ)?

This conversation is definitely for another thread...

There always has been a number of kids out of this area, Ovens and Murray and the Riverina are very strong AFL areas.  What I have heard from people in that region, any kid that even looks like they have any ability GWS are signing to the academy.

I also know that Victorian AFL clubs are getting set for their own zoned academies, with a few client hosting academy talent identification camps for kids 11-15yo over the school holidays.  I reckon by the end of this year clubs all clubs will have these set up.

I know a young bloke from Mildura who went to the GWS academy. He now plays Irymple twos.

Sorry I didn't have time to read 447 comments. I still think buying a house in Perth that could easily be knocked down and a palace built means something. Why not buy one here in Melbourne?

Maybe he's setting himself up for the future, maybe it's an investment and he's going to put four townhouses on it. Footballers buy real estate all over the country, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. I bought a house in Melbourne six months ago, doesn't mean I'm moving back anytime soon.

Doubleview is one of those old  Homes West suburbs which is equivalent to Victorian Housing Commision areas and which is becoming gentrifed due to its proximity to fine northern beaches and the CBD and would be a good investment opportunity. May be a coincidence but I am sure I saw Hogan at a restaurant in the area around February so he could have a connection with the locality.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
