Hey,

I heard Hogan might be leaving?

Did anyone else hear that?

Regards

STMJ

I hear he will request a trade to Freo by weeks end, and he will be on a 6 year $1.3 million per year contract..

To be home with his family.

Wonder if the club has played the travel card. Jesse has back issues and constant across the country flying will shorten a career and maybe further damage the back.

I would be getting in Garry Lyon who had similar back problems and said that flying was a real problem to talk to Jesse. Also I would be getting a couple of back specialists on side to also assist.

Interestingly Jay Ckark in his article referred to the arduous travel involved in being a player in the west.

Make no mistake this is a serious factor in any decision for Jesse to go home. It certainly is a factor in making Melbourne the better decision to base your footy career.

First I've heard of it.

There were articles on Garry's back problems and that they actually shortened his career.

'If' the go home card is activated then it won't be Hogans choice which team he wants to go to. It will be which of Freo or WC offers us the best compensation. Providing it's played out during 'this' trade period.

I was being facetious.

I must have said half a dozen times that Hogan shouldn't go back to WA due to 8 hour plane flights every second weekend.

Jakovich and other West Coast players have declared that the travel shortened their careers.

Considering Hogan didn't debut until he was 20 due to stress fractures in his back it would be madness to even contemplate a move back home.

But he may not be the sharpest tool.

Sorry chap, I am over this go home card, believe managers these days are only interested in their slice of the massive salaries they can squeeze out of clubs

I wonder what the reaction would be on here, the place would probably melt, if Jesse said he wanted to leave Melbourne, and then joined Hawthorn

(We did exactly the same thing with Mitch Clark)

Not half as bad if he wanted to go to Collingwood.

There is no way that could be Victoria, with the weather we've had this week.

Sorry Pro my facetious radar was off as I am away for the weekend and in holiday mode.

I agree obviously that for health reasons we are the better location.

We have been told due to family illness and missing family, that is the pull of the west.

If it turns out to be purely money, I for one will be very disappointed.

I note that every player that leaves for more money, always lies and says it is not about the money. That is a running joke in the AFL.

I am still hopeful he will stay a Demon.

Apparently he has brought a piece of paper to give to JT with the inscription 'pick 3' on it. This will be on traded to Port for Ollie Wines. The ramblings of 'Picket Fence' were integral to this deal going through.....

This is the exact reason we picked Watts over NicNat In the 2008 draft.

I was pretty confident in keeping Hogan but now I'm hearing WC are after him too its going to be a lot harder to persuade him now.

The club is bigger then any one player, I thought we played better with out him in the team against the Hawks.

west coast and freo can't trade their 2016 + future 2017 round 1 picks as they would fall foul of the afl's 2 first round picks in 4 years rule

neither club used a first round pick in 2015

the only way they could trade 2016 + 2017 first round picks this year is if they gamble on being able to trade-in a first round pick next year (or year after) and then use it in the draft that year

so, scenarios of getting 2 first round picks for hogan this year directly from either freo or wc are pretty slim. 2 first round picks could only be managed by involving a more complicated deal with one or more other clubs involved

Nothing has actually changed except ppl finally realise that freo aren't the only wa club involved interested. What a massive surprise wce are interested. Mind blown

I hooe he stays but if he does decide wa his place to be (which is weak as....) we will get well compensated.

As i said id rather him stay talented kpps dont grow on trees, but 2 clubs to bargin with are better then 1.

We might actually get that elite mid afterall. One thing i do trust is our fd team. They've done a ripping job the past few years. Has been first clsss recruiting and list management

Will be interesting to see how it all plays out

So because you hadn't heard that West Coast were into him you assumed it was only Freo ?  If West Coast officials weren't in dialogue with his manager they should have resigned.

As another poster has said, nothing has changed bar newspaper reporting.

I expect him to stay, because it makes sense for him to stay.  He won't want to leave his mates, he'll be well remunerated, and 8 hour flights every second weekend wouldn't appeal to anybody.

So why exactly hasn't he signed after 2 years over having contracts put in front of him?

If you're feeling sad, just think "Trent Croad".

The single most important player in Hawthorn's success. In his own way. Or two ways, really. :)

The magic scenario; Hogan goes back to WA to spend more time with family. We get the equivalent of two top picks in the draft plus change, and a nice open space in our salary cap. Then:

Hogan gets a bit older, gets a bit wiser and more independent, and when his massive four-year contract is up and he's stagnated as only a 'very good' player at Freo, he decides to come back to Victoria - Melbourne are only too happy to oblige, offering Fremantle about half what they 'paid' us. His return is also on a more modest and manageable salary. At which time Hogan rediscovers his form and promptly kicks 80 in a season to give Melbourne the final push they needed to secure the premiership, after four years of finals but not quite reaching the pinnacle. Satisfied, and now aged 32, Nathan Jones makes his retirement speech on field with the Premiership Cup in his hand.

I'm not sure I've even made the most convoluted or fantastical post in this thread. But it is the happiest, that much I'm sure of.

Will do. Although my sources tell me he has been growing a beard and will tell any inquisitive supporters that he is Ethan Tremblay from Demonland....

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
