The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here

Frankly, I've been deeply concerned about Russel Robertson's body language for a long time and am worried he might leave the club soon.

Said someone around 2003, I'm sure.

Slightly seriously - has anyone noticed that there is sometimes a genuinely uncanny resemblence in the "I'm disappointed in myself and in everyone else too" sulk face and dropped/drawn-in shoulders?

Hogan needs to clear off the stubble and change the haircut, or I'll be having flashbacks.

Demons11,I remember when we pick up Kelvin Templeton from the Dogs,100 goal kicker one year,we also got Peter Moore a Brownlow medalist from Collingwood. Those two top class players played for the Dees in 1983,84 and 85. In 83 Pies 6th,Dogs 7th and the Dees 8th.in 84 Pies 4th,Dogs 7th and Dees 9th. in 85 Dogs 2nd,Pies 7th Dees 11th. Each of those year the comp.was called the VFL and it consisted of a final five. Based on you way of thinking we should have been better than the Pies and Dogs. The supporters  may also think there goes success yet the Pies and Dogs each played in a final from 83-85,we didn't. There are many more cases that I can quote. What happens if Hogan demands a ridiculous sum of money and we then find ourselves unable to keep the likes of Oliver,Petracca,Brayshaw etc.

Those players weren't 20 years old with an enormous amount of upside.

Franklin is on a ridiculous sum at Sydney and it hasn't seem to hurt them

Well it sounds like we've given up on Hogan re-signing.. What's with the talk about him holding us to ransom and having an ego?

He put off contract talks until the end of the season. Most of us were fine with this when it was announced earlier in the season. The season for us has been over for less than a week and already posters are losing it. He's gone home and will probably discuss his future with his family. I don't think we're going to get an answer within the next couple of weeks so probably best to just relax a little.

Yep, unfortunately all we have now is our opinions (that applies to both sides of the debate).

For the time being, it's best to concede that we simply don't know. Peacefully agnostic because it's out of our control.

I'm pretty sure Dawson and Ross Lyon come as a package deal.

He said he was waiting to the end of season.  Our season only finished 5 days ago.  Give it a rest

Sure. But when i read that a player is weighing up his situation. I take it with a grain of salt.

I think the cards are already laid out. But just an opinion, having worked in a Newsroom for many years you get good at reading between the lines when an article is written or a camera interview is had.

Sad but true Third Man

i think Jesse will be a gun player but i think he switched off around QB time.

I don't think it is MFC related, more that Freo have made an offer to big to ignore...

i seriously hope i am wrong... Although i think the Weed may become a player who can kick bags in 1-2 years.

yeah to anyone who was happy to look beyond an MFC bias it was pretty clear in that presser when questioned about his future . He suddenyl sounded like a 12yr old boy whos balls had just started dropping , as he spoke about the future of the list etc. Once that line of questioning ended he was back to his normal self, bouncing from foot to foot and speaking normally. 90% of communication is non verbal as we all know. Those who ridicule the observation of clear non verbal signals have their heads in the sand. Interestingly , i noticed throughout the season, those same posters were quick to read the body language of players from other clubs. When it refers to the possibility of one our own departing then its deny deny deny.

I think body language is misread often.

And certain body language can be expressed for myriad reasons. No one here is a mind reader, no matter how much they think the contrary.

It's the original THE LIVES OF OTHERS, with an early performance from Harrison Ford. Beautifully shot and directed, but slowly paced. Still one of the great films. I won't say anymore, lest spoil it, but it relates to this idea of body language.

Seems like I have one for my list. Haven't seen it, but anything scored by Philip Glass has me.

I suspect things will become clearer after GWS' season is over and they can release McCarthy.

To be honest if he leaves he leaves. I would rather someone who wants to be at our club. Im sure we would get a good deal in return. Honestly i would not be suprised if they say he is putting it iff for another 12 months

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
