Not sure if this one slipped through to the keeper. Max was on TFS recently and based on this reception, there will be many more appearances to come. Fantastic to have a player with his personality and escalating profile at the club.

Maxy must be almost a lock for the AA team now.  Goldstein has dropped away, and even if he hits form again I can see them naming two ruckmen.

But right now Max is the lone AA ruckman.

Do they usually name two rucks?

Not sure how common it is, but our very own Mark Jamar made the AA team on the interchange... I think Sandilands was the ruck from memory

Often, on the basis that the team would be in trouble if the #1 went down during the notional game against Mars, which incidentally is where too many of the footy scribes live.

The club should push Max's cult status, he will ba a fan favourite with the kids and not just Melbourne supporters.

Maybe they should think of handing out "Max Beards" that the kids can attach to their faces during the games.

Great player, great guy and loves the club, what more could you ask for?

Yeah, they should take something that is organically funny and commercialise it to the point that it becomes a cliche and everyone is sick of it..

Yeah you're right, why would we want to commercialise anything about the club just, to try and increase supporters and our financial base, my mistake.

In Matthew Lloyds rolling All Australian team as the number 1 ruckman.

Lloyd is a sniper and I'm pretty sure I know how he got a commentator's job. He can't do anything else! I'm disappointed to read anyone on here actually quotes him, unless it is himself in disguise!

He is clearly AA and it is a disservice to the award if he doesn't get it.

Viney should be there as well.

Unless of course it a Hawks Free

I got to thinking on reading this that Gawn in 2016 is reminding me of Shwartz in 1994. Absolutely and almost ridiculously dominant. I hope we're talking big about Maxxy in 17, 18, 19 , 20 and beyond and not endlessly watching clips of him this season. I will pray for both his knees.

Im sorry to sound anxious but hey...Im a demon supporter and Im not sure how to handle positive press.

Sure it's not Uranus?

And I love how much he prides wearing the number 11 for big Jimmy.

Gawn is a player of such fitting character to follow in Jimmy's footsteps. ...not like the hoax of a bloke who wore it before big Maxy.

All-Australian players – AFL (since 1991)[edit]

Main article: All-Australian

Wow, only 15 times since 1991 have we had a player selected as an AA.

25 years with with approx 550 positions up for grabs, we have netted 15 of them (2.72%). That just makes me sad.

Matthew Pavlich has received almost as many AA slots as the entire Melbourne Football Club during his time in the AFL.

Scott Lucas on SEN went through some stats for this season for the best Ruck and midfielder combo

1 Max & N Jones 50 clearances

2 Max & Viney 49

3 Max & Tyson 47

next best

Nic Nat & Priddis 42

seems to point to dominance in the primary function for a ruckman

I know his next milestone game isn't for a couple of seasons but they should definitely have a guard of honour with kids all boarding big beards!

2 things from this year above all else has given me so much enjoyment from football (didn't think I'd be saying those words 3 years ago). First is Jack Watts having a sensational year, the second is Maxy Gawn fulfilling his own prophecy and becoming the number 1 ruckman in the game. Great to have a fantastic player and great character at our club!

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the

We'll break down the Match SIM against North Melbourne and wrap up the preseason with insights into training and our latest recruits.
