Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

It is pretty blatant and revolting arrogance.

Disappointing that it isn't getting slapped down by the media. But remember, Collingwood have recently declared an Pies-Swans 'Goodes medal', and Eddie has been coming out with some other random gibberish 'big ideas' that people just kind of smirk off.

If it annoys you that the Pies are elbowing in with their cash and 'weight', then the only good response is to help push our own way in. We've got to fight hard, alongside the Bulldogs, to be the highest profile women's team. Yes, we led the way, but now we're in real-politik football land and we have to go hard.

Dollars for the Demon women, turning up for the games, taking up player sponsorships, and everything right down to talking them up at work - that is the answer.

Most Collingwood and Richmond girls fight it out on the street so it's nice to give the girls an arvo off the ice pipe and let them get some exercise.

On a serious note, the Womens AFL will be administered by women and will command more revenue over time.

The boys club of sports admin is coming to a well deserved end.

Eddie and Collingwood will not be a part of the solution.

I can foresee a woman as AFL chief in the near future.

Rather than spend time and money on ludicrous pipe dreams (I regard matches played in China and Singapore as not much more than that), the AFL should ensure the introduction of a professional women's league is done in a manner which supports grass root growth. This includes women involved at the higher administrative levels. My eight year old daughter wants to play and three of her teammates currently do. Create an effective pathway and this is where growth in the game will occur imo.

It fn annoys me at times as to the ideas of self entitlement some have. In this instance Eddie and his flogs.

The opening game belongs to two clubs and two clubs only. The ones that have pioneered the ladies format. That would be our good selves and the Pups.

I'd like to hear  Jackson come out with that viewpoint and shove McGuire and his delinquents back where they belong.

Bloody upstarts !!!

The Dees do so much for women's footy we'd have to get the inaugural game. I'm the runner for my partner's VWFL team and my runner's vest, as does every other of the dozens of runner's in all the divisions, has a big MFC logo on the back.

Can't say I've seen the pies logo out there

Just as there would be no AFL but for the pioneers, ahem... The Melbourne football ground and there would be no MCG if not for the first tenant, the Demons, there would be no women's league if not for the work of the pioneers, one being the AFL.

If the season doesn't open with the only traditional rivalry in the women's game, then the AFL are and even bigger bunch of pr1cks than I thought they were (and that takes quite an effort).

And there it is, the crux of the matter in 8 words.

"With the women's design we've also moved the AFL logo, as per the NBL basketball model in America, because no one cares if it's got an AFL logo on it or not. Collingwood people don't say 'thanks for reminding me this is part of the AFL competition'.

Now there you go talking about Biff's tranny again.

Not appropriate. The term is transgender or trans.

And Collingwood arrogance doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

What is all the fuss about a woman's league? No one is going to watch it on tv or Live. It's going to be a heavily subsidized game.

In fact, there isn't a woman's league in any sport in the country that is profitable.

Can't see this being any different. I don't even think woman are going to watch it.

Yes, woman are moving up the administration ladder but let's not pretend this woman's league is a gold mine just waiting to be exposed.!

Thanks for the correction but I'm not sure how you know what Biff puts up next to his ear on game day, let alone what he chooses to call it.

My source was a post from Biff. Damn - there I go, totally discredited in one sentence!

It'll start off subsidized, but I can see it becoming profitable soon. AFL is in our blood. The addition of the women's league means I get to see the Dees twice every weekend instead of once. I'm stoked they're doing this.

I'll watch it. You don't have to if you don't want to, no one's forcing you.

I honestly can't wait to see Daisy out there in the red and blue, especially against the bulldogs. She's as much a demon as anyone in the men's team, probably more so than a lot of them.

I agree with Return to Glory. The women's league is a much much better expansion project for the game than overseas.

I can't wait to take my daughter to the footy, and she can actually she women play.

Why does it have to make money? If it's encouraging more young girls into footy then it's fulfilling it's purpose. There's more to sport than money you realize?

Melbourne have committed a lot of time a resources into getting the womens game off the ground and into the public eye. Stands to reason that we, along with the Bulldogs, will be given priority when it comes to the licences. The rest can fight amongst themselves but I would caution the AFL not to make it a big league, I don't think there should be any more than 3 teams in Victoria, and really I think it should be 2. Give those wanting to support the game something to rally behind.

My thought would be 2 in Vic, 1 in Adelaide, 1 in Perth, 1 in Sydney, and 1 in Brisbane. 6 teams, make a top 2 team play off for the GF. The reason I say go for a small league is that the talent pool is a massive challenge, the game last year at Etihad was probably a showcase of as good as it can get, thin that talent down and it'll make the entertainment value of the game quite low. Expand it once the fans are turning up and the standard improves. Maybe make it 7 teams with another in Vic, but for me I feel 8 is too much.

Pies can have the other licence if they want but they can get stuffed on dictating terms and making it all about them.

number of teams (8) and number per state have basically been decided, pates. however gill has stated recently that it is now not set in cement and in fact may be enlarged to 10 because of the demand by up to 13 clubs. so the chances of reducing it don't look good from an afl perspective

and iirc melbourne and bulldogs will be foundation clubs but again not finalised, leaving 2 more for vic unless they increase the numbers

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
