Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Just finished the replay, can't see why so many want Harmes to make way. Only 11 possessions but was never out of the game and all his touches were quite classy.

Brayshaw out is even more obvious to me after the replay. Very unlike him, seems way out of touch. Apart from him, no one deserves an out on form.

I think he is struggling to get into the games as a forward, to me he looks much better when he has bursts in the middle, but struggles deep forward with knowing how to get involved.

probably slightly down on confidence as well, i personally think the role he's playing is much more suited to Petracca

I agree he struggling to get into games as a forward. But also basic touches are letting him down when he is around it.

Also agree Petracca is more suited to that role. No brainer.

Gus played on a wing quite a bit last year. Perhaps that's his position when he's not in the middle? I think you're probably right too, mate.

Is it just me, or has Harmes' disposal improved out of sight over the last 2-3 weeks? Love the way he tackles as well! Definitely won't be dropped.

I agree with previous posters we cannot afford to take anyone into this game that is not super fit, the Saints ran us off our feet in our last encounter at the G, they showed us up with their run and spread but confidant that our coaches will be on top of that this time around. Gus apart from his opening stanza is playing without rhythm and may need a couple of weeks back at Casey to blow out the cobwebs but who to bring in?

I think Oliver needs to come in. Adds further depth around the contest which will be vital against the Saints.

Brayshaw to be rested.

Petracca and Trengove must also be in the mix. Some real headaches for the match committee each week now.

This club has genuine depth. And is clearly well coached, such that any number of players can simply slot in now.

Absolute headaches. I am sure this is Petracca's week. It just makes logical sense.

On another note  - I am intrigued with the Pedo/Frost debate.

I think Frost has a much greater ceiling than Pedo but is only showing glimpses. Pedo has great hands and he really has the attributes to take a game apart but doesn't do it. I do lean to Pedersen at this stage.

Oliver Petracca in

Brayshaw Frost out

With the 6 day turnaround and our young side, I think the outs will be come from younger players who are sore or need a rest. With Petracca, ANB and Oliver all warranting selection, it is certainly going to be an interesting team named on Thursday night.

Well this is a funny position to be in for us, but IMO Oliver and CP5 have to come in and it is not easy dropping or resting players.

It is being suggested that Salem will miss and if correct, one other would have to go to see my two in.

If Brayshaw is rested, so be it, as he doesn't look right to me. On the field he looks like a guy with the flu.

If it is not Brayshaw, I would probably go with Bugg, even though his game against the Pies was good, someone has to make way and I didn't think he was great against the Tigers.

The Saints are different to the Tigers and have a lot of run and maybe Bugg is the one that can be rested. He is also prone to poor disposal and the Saints will kill us on turnovers with their pace.

Unless they follow your idea and drop a tall, Frost/Pedersen. I actually think they are both needed. With Salem out, Hunt and Wagner are needed and have played well.

I just think Bugg might be the one.

He doesn't look right at all...looks to have no zip.

Maybe we should get the Richmond doctor to take a look.

Agree on all points.  I've been harping on about the strange calls to drop Harmes all thread.  I know it's hard when pretty much everyone's in form, but I really think those who reckon he's in the mix to spend time at Casey need to look a bit closer.

Brayshaw just looks a step below the pace at the moment.  I was in favour of him finding touch in the seniors, but not any more - there are form players demanding a spot in the VFL as well as Matt Jones, who (whether the fans like it or not) will also be part of the discussion if he's recovered from "general batteredness".  There's no doubt Brayshaw at his best is best 22, but he's not at his best.  Take the pressure off him and let him find form in the 2s.

6 day turnaround. Trengove just delivered a "four quarter" performance in a tough VFL game. Won heaps of the ball.

Surely he's in the mix.

Trengove did not play for two years. He has played two games since. Yes he played well but he needs more weeks. I don't understand why anyone want him to play this week. A lot of you are also saying we need speed this week and at the same time saying jack is slow.

Petracca was tagged a lot Saturday which makes his possessions more impressive.

In Petracca - the fact is he is a better player than Brayshaw, hunt,Harmes etc. etc.

out brayshaw(if no injuries).

Is Salem injured ?

Or are we trying to pick a team of guys that spray the ball?

I don't see why people want to drop Pederson/Frost. Both very good in the last to weeks. They are the common factor in all our 3 wins. If it aint broke...

It's a pretty obvious answer you seek.  I'd drop Frost to make the team better.  I wouldn't be doing it to make the team worse.

But if the coaches like the current structure and what he brings he'll get to play.  It's pretty obvious he's one of the first to make way if there is change.

Yet he wasn't playing when we lost to Essendon, how much "better" were we that week?

When it comes to team selection, we've got to a stage that we look at opposition match ups now, as well as poor form.  So from a "poor form" perspective, it's very very difficult to find anyone that "deserves" to be dropped.

So we take a look at our match ups.  I'm concerned that if we drop Frost, that we are leaving ourselves a bit thin with height.  Bruce vs Dunn, Riewoldt v McDonald.  The concern is that if we start losing one of those contests heavily, then what changes do we make?

I am in no doubt that dropping Frost for the Essendon game contributed to us losing, and I would imagine that Roos won't make that mistake again this year.

My selection criteria this week will be look at our tall match ups, have some back up if something goes wrong, then cram the rest of the team with pace, skill, toughness, and then more pace and skill.  Who that means comes in and goes out I am FIIK, but I always get concerned when we've swapped a small for a tall, or vice versa.

I love Gus, but I am a little frustrated about where his game is at. I know he's taken some knocks and perhaps it's just a case of second year blues, but I was hoping this year he would be able to get more of the ball, because if he does, he becomes a very damaging player. Even 20-25 touches would be enough.

He's first out for mine. Apart from his goal the other night, he wasn't in the play enough (9 disposals) and despite his 5 tackles, he just didn't have an influence. Oliver has dashed past him already, IMO.

He isn't a forward.

There must be something wrong, why he can't get a gig in the mid rotations. He started there NAB 1, before his knee injury. Maybe his fitness is the problem?

Regardless, he needs to make way for a true HFF in trac.

Disappointing so far this year, but last year he was outstanding. Hopefully he bounces back because I had him a lock in the middle this season.

I personally don't like him at half forward, but we're spoilt for choice at the moment in regards to our starting 4 in the guts.

Brayshaw for Petracca for me.

It is a direct upgrade based on position (forward pocket rotating in occasionally).

Unless we have a mysterious injury of the week, any other changes will be structure or match up based. Matt Jones and Oliver are unlucky.

I think a lot of the criticism of Brayshaw this week is a touch unfair. He is really copping it because we had almost 22 contributors, which is very rare, and he played an ordinary, but still serviceable game.

IMO the half forward role is probably the hardest role in footy today. It effectively means you get a hard tag and you also have limited opportunities due to being stationed away from the play at stoppages. I think, for this reason, expecting Brayshaw (or any player in the role) to be a high possession winner is unrealistic. The role also has a significant defensive element.

This is not to say he shouldn't be omitted this week if the replacements deemed to be better, but, personally, I would be a bit hesitant to drop him for the second time in a month. He has, after all, been playing a role in a side that has kicked 36 goals in two weeks.

Gus will be fine :) even now you can see with some of his touches the class is still there.

just needs some time to find his feet again and maybe a move further up the ground

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
