Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Therein lies another more serious, complex, and sinister take on those umpires in question. Were they instructed to get a more "popular" team over the line, quietly....

I dunno, but I have absolutely no doubt they were instructed to give GWS a free ride when they first started. Of course my only evidence is having watched their matches.

What a bizarre post.

The question was asked if there'd ever been a player booed as much as Goodes and I gave an answer.

Yeah fair enough. The point still stands though that the circumstances were completely different.

How good it is to see our supporters coming to the game and barracking for their new team. No more negative comments and general despair from the stands. Supporters expectations have suddenly changed now we are watching our young team play attractive attacking footy, and actually kicking goals.

I think we are turning the ball over far more than last year but I am not unduly fazed by that. With great adventure comes more risk.

Last year we were chipping backwards defensively across the ground then stopping and then chipping back the other way and stopping. Very little hard run and spread down the field - this meant low inside 50 counts and low scores.

A more attacking mindset comes with the caveat that you the risk of turnover is greater and we are seeing that. But I am a great supporter of continuing the mindset as we have such competitive beasts playing that whilst we may get burned by some turnovers ( which we are ) we are also winning back our fair share of ball as well.

Not sure if this is right but one thing s for sure, the turnovers are not happening so much in our defensive area...

Something I noticed for some odd reason watching the video of all our goals on the MFC website.

If you go around 5.24 of the video, Frost gets a free kick just forward of centre. Around him are players including Gawn, Viney and Bugg. As soon as the umpire says it's Frost's free kick all three of them immediately sprint off into the forward line. By the time Frost kicks the ball to FF (he doesn't take too long), all three of them are at the next contest.

That kind of running and spreading has not been evident in our play since...ever. It's a small thing, but it's those kinds of things I see us doing now on a regular basis.

I think we did that under Bailey. It's the running the other way that I'm seeing more than I ever have. That's also the beauty of having really pacy players down back (Hunt, Lumumba in particular) to cover any of those plays that break through the press. Love that they seem to be spreading though. They've clearly worked on that over pre-season and they are just starting to believe in each other, which gives them the confidence to run forward of the ball in expectation of providing an outlet for their team mates.

Lumumba, I'd hope.

Lumumba's been very good the last 3 weeks, part of the reason we are able to break open from half back with running play. His disposal and decision making has been pretty good, I think you're underselling him here. Yeah last year he was very poor and even in the first two games this year but since the North game he has been a key in getting us moving from half back.

I think he's a bloke that needs others working for him. He can't entirely create himself. I thought he wasn't our worst against Essendon either. He was trying to create, but it was another of those days like 2015, where we simply didn't bring the work rate. We're playing a game style that is perfectly suited to Lumumba and that's exactly why we brought him in.

For those interested:

We had the equal youngest team for the round on the weekend and second least experienced (Brisbane 74.3 games ~ 75.1)

This group is going to enjoy growing together.

thats a good stat, considering we had our best 22 out there barring VB

Not sure, but they do it, so maybe that is the rule.

Just checked it is not a rule.

i know it was against the rules, but frankly i can't see anything logically wrong or undesirable about a handpass instead of a kick

Definitely a lot more players around the football, I noticed in a ball up there is almost alway 3 players behind the ball to tackle if the opposition gets the ball but as soon as we win the ball back the players all spread to create options to handball out of the traffic to find a players in space who can kick it a free option.

We finally have a game plan that works!!

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
