To give some credit to the Sh!t-bloke, he's great at getting a rise out of Demonland.

Let them hate. Port Adelaide is the azz end of the world and that is fact...

Indeed. Port Adelaide make Collingwood look like yuppies.

Watts has in the past run hard on the lead and been ignored after multiple leads. That in part stems from our slow ball movement and lack of confidence.

He is a beneficiary of the new trust and confidence in each other and the quicker ball movement. He has also improved his contested work markedly. Only a complete spud like Der Wayne would disagree.

Years ago I wrote to 3AW saying that I would never listen to their footy show while he was on it. He was filling in after David Hookes died. I never have and urge others to do the same,

It's just such a dumb comment.  You can imagine the type of dribbling oaf that would listen to his show nodding and grunting their agreement.  Just be thankful you don't operate at that level and move on with life.

Who cares what Dwayne thinks? his opinion is about as relevant as we made the Collingwood footy club look on the weekend.

Jack will probably come out and kick 6 on the weekend just to really rub it in, on track for 30-40 goals this year and creates at least that many with his skills and creativity, i'd argue on current form he's in our top 5 most important players.

While I don't agree with almost anything he says and think he is a shocking commentator.... bringing up his football stats doesn't mean anything

Posted

Really. What a non story by a non entity. I would be more interested in how many will he kick AGAINST Hawthorn. I never wan't to hear his name mentioned as a potential Hawthorn Player !

Dwayne lays claim to the same 'I have played at the highest level and been a success' territory that  Matthews, Dunstall and Brereton trade on. I bring up his stats to emphasise how far he fell short of that sort of credibility.

Watts has had such a disappointing career it's hardly surprising some want a larger sample size than 4 games.  That said Russell is a [censored] of the highest order and has made it clear he has zero respect for the MFC.  He grew up in SA and hardly ever saw us on TV such was our lowly profile at the time (70's through to mid 80's).  We've done little to change his long-held view.

Watts kicked 10 goals from 20 games last year.  He's kicked 9 from 4 in 2016.

Become consistent, keep hitting the scoreboard and your knockers will shutup.

Said it before... Jack Gunston is a poor man's Jack Watts.

You post some good stuff.

This is horrible.

Two things. A.... Without Melbourne players at Hawthorn they would probably still be last. Watts is a highly articulated AFL Football cogitator and stratagist and demonstrates that every time  he is interviewed. I would think based on his present trajectory they would do worse than to include him in future plans at the Club.

B....Hawthorn are not getting any more ever. Russell is not relevant.........

I think he's an astute football analyst who sees the rebuild about to explode and reap benefits - that's what worries him.

Curious: Why?

Separate question: What makes him someone broadcasters want to use in this role. To me it seems limited to a TV-friendly voice and turn of phrase. No big picture wisdom, just catch-the-moment cleverness. So, at best, a caller, not a commentator.

Hawks would be lucky to have Jack. Geez what does the guy need to do to get some respect?

I like Jack and think he can become an important part of a resurgent Melbourne, but what he does need to do is play at least one consistent season before he gains the respect of the football community. Is that unfair? Maybe. But he still hasn't strung together a full season of strong football. He's certainly had dominant games, but at this stage in his career, he'd have played 5-10 of them. Play 10-15 of them this year and I expect him to gain some wider respect in the AFL community. Couldn't give a toss what Dwayne thinks though.

I didn't realize how mediocre Dwayno's career was as a footballer until I read up about him just now. That doesn't prevent him from having an opinion and he's quite entitled to express his views.

Mine are that his journalistic skills and ability as a football commentator are substandard. IMO, he wouldn't get a gig at a quality television station.

I firmly believe that if Watts had been injected into the same environments with the same opportunities, he'd have done better than Gunston.

It's pure speculation and that's fine to disagree.

For me he has to play at least 2 seasons with the same output he's shown in this block of 4 games.

Dwayne Russell - 50 games - 51 goals

Jack Watts - 119 games - 92 goals (Projection for whole career - 227 games - 332 goals - 1 B&F, 3 AA's - 1 Top 3 Brownlow)

Thank you, I was about to post those stats.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
