Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I think Tracca will play. The Garlett fitness test smells of a smokescreen to take pressure off Petracca and not cause a fanfare.around his debut

People saying that if Trac was debiting there would be a video of him being told by Roosy or whatever dont understand the difference between Petracca and someone like Wagner or Hunt.

Massive expectations vs none

I agree with this. Imagine the reactions from the 'land if those vids had not been of Wagner and Hunt but of Petracca calling his mum (or creator). Yes a lot of hype, but it would also harken back to the marketing of Watts' debut. There's deliberate strategising going on these days that doesn't have an amateur reek to it.

I reckon we will miss Oliver a great deal.  He is the business.

My massive worry is that every time we get some media love and attention the players get ahead of themselves.  Clearly this was the case with Essendon, round 2.  I can see them running out this weekend thinking they are premiership contenders.  They are so desperate to rid themselves of past demons (pardon the pun) that they just take their eyes off the ball (pardon the pun again).  Of which is,  to individually focus, to stay together, and to win games.

As much as we have improved, its 50/50 for me.  But [censored], we have to get over this bloody 'little league' embarrassing target of winning two in a row.  Just to state the bleeding obvious!!!!!!!!!

Come on Dee's, it's [censored] time to grow up.

Generally the club won't name a debutante if they're not going to play, regardless of where they were drafted. Same thing happened with Wagner a couple of weeks back. I don't think it's about Petracca being a #2 pick, it's about a young kid playing his first game.

Having said that Petracca would have already been told he was in the 25 as an "emergency" and the chances of playing were slim so probably more of a deal for supporters than the him.

Resting a player doesn't wash for mine. I understand the logical hindsight on Brayshaw for 2015 that's all of a sudden come to light as some sort of precedence.

But Oliver's game times haven't been excessive, he's handled himself well. And this is a big game he would excel in with a full 7 day break.

At times he's been critical in getting first to the ball in stoppages, dishing it off having someone already committed to him (in a tackle). I reckon we'll miss him.

INB4 R6 Team selection - if we have a good win this week and no injuries, next week's selection with Oliver rested and Petracca raring to go could get even more interesting!  They're the sorts of problems we like to have!

With no insight whatsoever ( like the disclaimer ?) I would assume his resting is based on more than just Sunday - I would think they watched him closely at training to see how zippy he was etc , when they have reached this decision.

I have a preference for the first two weeks Oliver playing like that for 3 weeks and then missing one than have the Oliver of last week  play like that ongoing. I  am not saying that he played badly last week and he had some crucial touches but he was down on his previous output and if the theory is that resting him a week will mean more games like the first few weeks then I say rest him a week and freshen him up.

Hampson out of the squad and Townsend in.  You watch, they'll play Morris and Townsend and try and go the knuckle on the young Dees.  Hardwick learned it from Sheedy....the apple never falls far from the tree.  I think our boys will acquit themselves well if this transpires...

Ahh yes Townsend and Morris - the 'tough guys'... When push comes to shove, who would you rather in your corner? Nathan jones or Trent Cotchin?

They should bring Christian in next week against the saints at etihad. It's our home game and may get a few more people through the gate not that's a reason to pick him. Christian will get his turn. It's sort of a good thing he isn't being rushed. 5 years ago he would have been chucked in. But now we are having small successes we don't need to make big changes every week.

But those 2 ins are very good for us.

As I knew. When Trac is ready they will make a big deal about it and he will play. No issues leaving him out. I'm all for making sure he is fit and firing. Pressure on this kid is massive. If he comes in and blows up in the first quarter, imagine the reaction.

As for resting Oliver, kid came in without the best fitness base having lost weight to get drafted. He did really well to force himself into the side, but he can barely crack 70% TOG. Wouldn't surprise me if he's feeling sore and they're worried about overuse injuries. How furious would we be if they played him and he broke down with a groin injury or a hamstring injury?

Better to be cautious with these guys. They are the future and precious commodities. No need to rush them.

If Oliver has "general soreness" yes, don't play him.

I am concerned though - it was he, in his first game, who started out final quarter recovery round 1, and he did some great clearance work v Norf as well.

Then are we going to bring him back next week, as well as debuting CP5 in a game that should be winnable?

Trac will play next week for sure. It is a short week as we play Sunday night and then face the Saints at 1pm Saturday on the hard Etihad surface so players will continue to be managed.

Just wondering if I have missed something.........Has Petracca suddenly played 100 games and is Brownlow favourite whilst I wasn't looking.

I really like the kid but he hasn't played a bloody game yet.   The way some posters around here are pumping up his tyres is just mind boggling.   It reminds me of a certain No1 draft pick we got a few years ago.

Don't get me wrong, I am looking forward to when he does play but until then he is just another draftee that shows great promise.

You have many likes, but I must say that I can't say I see the profundity others do.

He is not "just another draftee that shows promise".

I could see a number of players at Casey getting a 'light' run this week as we have a short turn around for the Aints game. The selector will use this as a reason to rotate a few players into the team and rotate a few out for a rest. Would expect Patracca and ANB to be good chances to play.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
