Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Score from turnovers

Evening...or morning... Haven't posted here for years. Congrats to the boys for continuing their form from last week. They really deserved that and very happy for Jack Watts, hopefully on Queens birthday he can kick 6 and we can win by ten goals!

The point of the post is that I was just wondering if there is any way to see the score from turnovers last week. I was watching the replay and said to a friend I thought it was in the vicinity of 60+ but looking at afl.com.au and the footylive iOS app that stat wasn't there. The tv coverage trots it out every now and then so I know it is recorded.

Just wondering if anyone knows a better site where we can get such stats or if not what the number was.

Back it it up next week boys and keep the pressure on and the great positioning in the opponents half and we will score plenty again from the turnover ball!

Thanks-there may finally be some rain on the Dusty Hill

I think one of our posters has access to the champion data stats.  I can't remember who it is, but they would be the best person to ask.

I know that's not very helpful without a username attached, but maybe someone else will read this and say "oh yeah, that's [insert name here]."

Keen to see a scores for and against from turn over stat for us, game by game and total season. Comparing it against the rest of the Comp and really interested to see stats of this year compared to last year across the Como. Ie have the rule changes, players fatiguing late in qtr/half/end of games causing more scoring due to turn overs.

Meh sort of but needs me flesh to it.

From the article. So we concede almost 10 goals a game, the 8th most number of points per game, from turn overs and we turn the ball over 26 times a game (105 so far) the 6th worst. We play Tiges and Saints next. Tigs 3rd worst in points conceded at 70 points per game and turn it over just ahead of us. Saints 2nd worst with 73 points per game and 3rd worst for turning it over. Cats the least points from turn overs at 33 points per game but give it away a little bit, 88 times so far. Interesting Brissy turn it over the least at 74 times YTD but are last in points conceded from those turn overs at 74 points per game.

Viney, who gets the ball more than anyone on our team (108 disposals season to date 25th in Comp, Jones next with 103 which is 38th in comp, Tyson next best with 84)

Melbourne

Melbourne is taking more risks with the football, with the Demons focusing heavily on producing fluent ball movement in 2016. Led by senior assistant Simon Goodwin and game analyst and education coordinator Craig Jennings, the Demons worked diligently during the pre-season to create a more attacking game plan that would lead to improved scores. Shifting Christian Salem and Bernie Vince to half-back was also a planned move to ensure the Demons have better distribution of the football from defence. - Ben Guthrie

Points conceded from turnovers in 2016: 58.8 a game (ranked 11th)
Giveaways (turnovers from an error): 105 (ranked 13th)
Most turnovers this season: Jack Viney (24)
Most points conceded from turnovers: Jack Viney (26)

Yes Viney has the propensity to turn it over but I am grateful he is actually getting the pill, its easy to have small turnover stats when you only get 10 possessions a game, but he is getting heaps of the footy so his turnovers will be higher. Nothing that can't be polished out of him when the season progresses

It is interesting.

I thought we helped Collingwood's cause - they scored a fair few goals through our turnovers and errors.

Then I relooked at the replay and it confirmed this - however the same could be said for Collingwood - they gifted us goals due to their turnovers.

Then I read the Monday paper and like every other week - the most scoring by all sides is caused by turnovers and the reason in simple.

The minute a team gets the ball, players leave their man and spread hard ( or at least should !) - if you turn the ball over  - miss a target - you are dead  - mark it down as a goal.

Games are now decided on who is most efficient by foot or hand.

Nut they have been decided by that for a number of season snow ie the Hawks left footer model but all of the hawks players are above average by foot (I'm sure there will be some small outliers).

As I said earlier interested to see how this year correlates to last year or last couple of years as a comparison.

The Hawks left foot model to me is a myth - being a left footer doesn't automatically equate to good disposal. The Hawks "got to be able to dispose accurately by hand and foot" model is what has won them flags - simply they don't turn the ball over -  and when they do  - that's when the look vulnerable like every other team.

I also think the game style and how hard they work helps, look at the doggies now, most of their players aren't that skillful but it's easy when you know where a bloke is going to be and he's running into space, it makes them look slick, even our ball movement at times on the weekend looked fantastic.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
