Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

stuie I'll make this really clear. I will respond to you once and once only. I've seen some people on this site treat you really poorly. I feel you're often misunderstood and have some quality footballing views to offer. I've often been tempted to jump to your defence (not that you'd claim you need it) but find that difficult to do when I then see you adopt such a confrontational, point scoring stance so regularly, rather than simply debating the topic at hand. Whether you agree or not, you involve yourself in regular spats on this site. You've clearly become the common denominator and need to address why this is. I'm guessing many like me have been skirting past the in-fighting on this forum in search of the hidden gold and have grown increasingly frustrated in the process. Today, I reached my limit. I'm asking you, as plainly as I can to stop. Talk footy. It's easy, particularly when you finally have a team to watch that doesn't drive you to want to throw a brick through your tv screen every week.

Sooooooo is that a yes or a no to the footy question I asked.....?

Out, Oliver and Brayshaw

Oliver to be dropped/rested, only 11 touches.  still did ok but the two coming in are better.

Brayshaw - dont mess around with concussion with a young mid - bound to get hit a lot

If correct then Oliver must play, rationale being witrh one "Grunter" out You will still need another "Grunter" to replace

So if Gus misses with concussion  then Oliver definately would stay!

Exactly the same sentiments here.

I have no regrets about avoiding all the junk posts and infighting.

TBH I did resolve myself to avoid that a little while ago but got sucked in again.

Will give it a go again.

It's really only 2-3 posters that get to me, might just block them for everyone's sake.

So you base the quality of performances purely on stats?

Interesting.

I assume that means you're happy for your whipping boy Matt Jones to stay in ahead of Hogan, Harmes, McDonald, Watts, Brayshaw, Gawn, Hunt, Dunn & Oliver given he had as many or more disposals as them last round?

In this case yes

of course.

I watched Petracca 'live' 3 weeks ago in a Casey practice match.

I watched the first quarter on the club website where he has 9 possessions and two ripping marks.  He looks better in just 3 weeks.  I've also seen him train recently, Stu.

I know the class of player involved and it doesn't take much to realise that Petracca's possessions/minutes/output are superior to Neal-Bullen's possessions/minutes/output, let alone when he has 60 to 55.  They've played a somewhat similar role, with Petracca playing plenty of midfield minutes.

Getting back to the point, Stu, Clint's inference was that Neal-Bullen had been in better form than Petracca.  There's no hope in hell that Neal-Bullen has been in better form in 2 games when he's had less stats than the gun in waiting Petracca.

You will note "ProDee" I did not use 1 insult in my post to you, says a lot that you felt the need to provide so many in your reply.

There is obviously no argument from anyone about who is the greater talent out of Petracca and ANB, but I still disagree with your assertion that stats = form.

Given the different roles said players would be asked to do, why does it have to be a competition of form? You talked about comparing stats of different roles yet you have done just that. ANB and Petracca are clearly not competing for the same spot in the team.

Without having seen all the games in full it's absolute folly to determine form based purely on stats and talent.

It is dangerous around here getting any sort of reputation because everything that happens is always further evidence in support of it regardless of the facts. In fact when it went from 1 week to more, the explanation was that scans had shown the injury was a higher sprain than thought.

Wouldn't mind at all if they played both Maric and Deledio. Two underdone players will come back to bite them on the arse.

Just on Petracca. you'd think if he doesn't get a gig this week, he'd have to play next week. The club would not be so cruel to us as to have him debut at Metricon (would they?).

Me and my boy are making the trip up there for a boys weekend away. If this does happen,we'll just have to cheer even louder.

I watched the first quarter of the Collingwood VFL game on the MFC website and thought Petracca looked a really good prospect. He looks to read the play very well, wins a lot of contested ball at stoppages and takes a great mark. The issue he will struggle with at AFL level is covering the ground. This will obviously improve through time, but I doubt he will ever be a strong runner. Even if he doesn't improve this significantly, I have no doubt he can make it as a forward who pinch hits in the midfield. The other comment I would make on Petracca is that he was a little sloppy at times with his skills in the parts I watched, albeit he had a lot of the ball and looks highly coordinated.

As an aside, I thought Grimes was really good in quarter I saw.

Get ready for being a bit deflated tonight. With game being Sunday, it's almost certainly going to be a case of just three ins and we will have to wait until tomorrow at 5pm to find out who is biting the bullet for Vince and maybe CP5 and Jeffy. But the really interesting part will be who is on the extended interchange bench because that will give you a clue as to who's out of favour - I think a lot of you have forgotten that Dunny has won that title hands down this year, so I'll be very surprised if he is named in the 18. But I do agree with everyone that it's always really hard to change a winning line up.

For mine there's only one player who should be out (Matt Jones), but he's been listed in the first 18 every game so far, so he obviously is in with the selection committee and really, at the end of the day, that's all that counts.

I think with Maric it's more a case of him being undersized than underdone.

This is one game they could do with Hampson to try and nullify Max, and on the underdone side of things I'm not sure Maric will have the match fitness to try and expose Max around the ground.

Who cares? If you really believe the club is going to tell us every detail 100% of the time then you will be sorely disappointed. There are many reasons why they can't tell us or don't want to tell us.

Lids meet Viney.

My guess is that if an (underdone) Deledio is selected, he will spend a high percentage of his time deep forward, where his strong marking and good kicking can be dangerous, especially given their alternate goal-kicking options.  We will need strong team defense to counter them all.  Who would be our first option to stand Deledio?  Wagner?

Dunn has been a welcome inclusion with his disposal out of the back half. he hits targets regularly and set up a few runs early that put the pies under the pump. he won't be going anywhere.

Good point, I'm still undecided if he'll play.

Maybe Vince early, Lids is a smart player, he's clearly not match fit, shut him down early and try and expose him going the other way. Then see how the game pans out and maybe look to make a switch.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
