Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Casey want answers re Jack Trengove concussion

From an article in the Herald Sun...

MELBOURNE’S VFL club Casey has called for the league to investigate the hit that concussed Demons midfielder Jack Trengove on Saturday night.

A dazed Trengove was collected high just minutes into Casey’s thumping of Frankston and must undergo concussion tests in order to prove his fitness this week.

The VFL confirmed on Monday the Scorpions had requested an investigation and submitted a medical report but said it was already on top of the incident following a referral from the umpires.

Frankston captain Jason Pongracic was on Monday night offered a two-match suspension for rough conduct.

Footage shows Trengove, 24, was bumped in the head by a Frankston player just off the ball early in the first quarter of Casey’s 144-point win.

Casey coach Justin Plapp said Trengove was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

“I don’t think there was a hell of a lot of malice. But he was clearly concussed,” Plapp said.

I thought it happened in a pack situation, but this certainly paints a different picture...

Casey needs to get its story straight. Why would the club be calling for the league to investigate something that its own coach states was a result of Trengove being in the wrong place at the wrong time and which occurred without malice? (OK, Plapp allegedly said without "a hell of a lot of malice", but he may as well have said no malice).

Dog act.

Got 2 weeks for it.. what more can they do? Fair enough if he didn't get any weeks but i think this should be just a simple move on and get on with it.

Trengove tweeted the next day that he felt fine so i dont see any point really of going further.

Must admit watching the video i didn't think it was in play, it was just a dick move.

bit of an old fashioned clean up job.

Pretty sure it happened around the stoppage contest but to be honest i thought the camera work was awful through out the whole game.

I wonder if some have actually seen the 1st quarter footage posted in the Casey v Frankston thread, given what has been posted: -

My view: -

  • It was not behind the play
  • It was not off the ball
  • It was in play at the stoppage / just after centre bounce (after first goal of game).
  • There was no intention/malice to hurt player IMV.

The Frankston player at the centre bounce was on the pounce from the ball up (starting in the centre), determined to get to the ball. The ball approached the two players running in from the wing (Trengove and opponent) all of the sudden as a result from the tap out, the player had speed, changed direction into path of player(s), Trengove was slightly behind his opponent who quickly got out of way, then collision (or bump). Point of contact hit Trengove front on, Trengove went back and looked to hit his head on ground hard.

Not sure if the contact of head on ground what was caused the concussion, as video footage is poor. But there appears a sudden whiplash after point of initial contact with player suggesting that a shoulder may have split him (hit him) when left open.

I'd suggest either or both contributed to concussion.

Speedy recovery for Jack I hope.

Well said, we would all be up in arms if Viney got 2 weeks for that, not much in it unless it was high.

Here's a link to the hit if you haven't seen it.

Nothing story.

A player gets knocked out from a bump, you're going to submit the medical and make sure the league has seen it. Not exactly dobbing, just par for the course these days.

Plapp's comments are right. Trengove seems to have moved on. The Frankston player has taken the 2 weeks which is about spot on as far as I can tell for a high bump causing injury.

If Casey wanted answers then they got them.

What sort of scumbag lowlife takes out a player who has missed as much footy as Trengove?

Behind the play to a ball player like Trengove, must be a spineless miscreant.  Oh, he's from Frankston of course.

Frankston captain Jason Pongracic - lowlife.

Trengove jogs in off the wing and cops a shoulder to the head from 25 who appears to see him then he appears to decide to go through with the hit.

Trengove actually is the last person to touch the ball a split second before the hit.

Clearly the Frankston player made the wrong choice. He had a choice to go for the ball.

Right decision 2 weeks IMV.

Bullsh!t. As soon as the ball was out of his immediate area, he ran past the ball, lined Trengrove up, lifted the elbow and went through him. Not intent for the ball. If he was going for the ball he would have stopped, started to turn around and chase the ball.

Play the video back that ManDee just posted. have a look at how fast no.25 was travelling and tell me he could have stopped as soon as Trengove tapped ball to ground in different direction. Then post something unbiased.

The mistake he made was following through with a bump in a split second. No malice though IMO. As I said 2 weeks is spot on IMV. Nothing more.

Not stopped, but his velocity/direction would have changed. There was no sign of him changing direction even when the ball did. No. 25 actually slowed up as he got closer to the ball, then he planted his feet and keep going through Trengrove.

I must say I've been very confused by the whole media coverage of this incident, in the very same story that states Casey demand an investigation,

it declares the culprit has been given two weeks. What's there to investigate if he's been rubbed out?

Hence a 2 week penalty. Just penalty for his action.

Pretty clear that no. 25 from Frankston lined him up and delivered an elbow/forearm. May not have intended to knock him senseless, but it looked to me like he had no intention of going for the ball. Was 2 games enough? Had it happened at senior AFL level he would've got more IMO. Bernie Vince got two weeks down to one for barely touching an opponent's chin (if he made contact at all).

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
