Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I would actually bring ANB in to replace Vince if he does indeed cop a week...

I think Brayshaw can have another run around with Casey and come in cherry ripe for Richmond alongside his good mate Petracca...

Garlett in for AVB as long as his ankle is fine.

This doesn't fit here but watching the replay and, just quietly, I think Clayton Oliver maybe an alien. North blokes tackle him and they have his arms all snugly wrapped up and then they appear well above his head dishing off to a running teammate. Possibly the AFLs first intergalactic recruit.

His ability to get his hands free and release a handball at such speed (and often crazy angles) is phenomenal...

And as you pointed out, it is more often than not a handball from above his head!

At this early stage of his AFL career, he has me hardening quicker than a bag of rapid set every time he goes near the ball

There was that one,  maybe in the third or forth,  near the 50 metre arc,  kicking left of screen on the boundary far side,  where he was getting tackled and he somehow hand passed it over the back of his head and it hit some weird angle right to the advantage of VDB (?),  it was ridiculous,  I think I openly laughed because my brain didn't know how to process that level of skill.

He's a freak,  my God he's going to be our classiest mid I've ever seen.  Scary thing is he has so much more development to come,  what will he end up as?

Please can we stop with the 'Frost adds forward pressure [censored]' The bloke can't lay a tackle to save himself. Its literally like playing with 21 blokes with him in the side because he adds nothing up forward.

Drop for Pedo. At least with Pedo he can take a decent grab and create a contest.

Garlett for Bugg would be my pick.

Don't see how we can persist with a Frost as a forward. Pedo is clearly ahead as both a forward and pinch hit ruck. Straight swap. Garlett the other obvious in with Stretch a little unlucky. Competed well but needs time. Bugg certainly now under pressure but I like his aggression.

I'd like to see ANB come in especially given his ability to run out games strongly, but is he too inside oriented for a team that dominated clearances and contested ball today? Possibly.

Dropping Vanders seems knee jerky. I'd give him another week.

we won't see Petracca or Trenners, ANB, Brayshaw, Garlett and Pedders should come in. I doubt weeds would come in either.

It's a tough one, I reckon. I'd be tempted to play the same team. These guys played the best football I've seen from a Melbourne side in a long time, but they didn't get the chocolates. I would say to them, we go again and make sure you get the points this week.

However, I would consider one other important change and that's Garlett IN. Harmes and Kent certainly keep their spot, particularly given they were still included after last week and they actually impacted the game this week. I suspect Garlett might come in for Stretch or Matt Jones though. I'd probably go for a switch with Matt Jones, as Stretch is younger and is the future, despite Jones certainly improving this year.

I'd be tempted to give Gus another week in the VFL and make him really earn the recall, but I suspect he'll be back in again next week. ANB could get a game in place of Bugg, as could Gus.

They rotated on them.  Dunn and McDonald spent most of the time on them, while I believe Lumumba spent some time on Brown as well.  I'm not totally sure on that though, others at the game might be able to give more insight.

Stretch was handy, Wagner was just okay.  Both should keep their spots for next week.

Lumumba found himself on Waite a few times as well. It's this new zone defence we're playing. I'm not sold on it, but it didn't expose us horribly today.

In. Garlett, ANB, Brayshaw
Out: Bugg, Vanders, Vince (suspended)

If Vince gets off then give Brayshaw 1 more week in the 2's no sense rushing the kid. Would also like to see Frost out for O Mac and have Dunn play forward. They clearly think Oscar is the future of the defence (and I agree) and we are struggling for a second tall forward so why not. but I also don't realy think it would happen

A key trait of the very best players.

Judd had it. Cripps has it. Ablett has it. Our very own Clayton Oliver... has it.

Colingwood are soft as butter. One of the softest sides in the comp.  Hit then hard and earl and move the ball like we did vs North and we will win

I'd be tempted to go with neither up forward.

Kennedy Watts Vanders

Kent Hogan Garlett

I reckon being a bit shorter is better then carrying a taller guy who fails to have an impact on the game

Unless the ankle is more serious than thought, Garlett in. Probably Brayshaw, depending on how he trains. VDB, Bugg, Frost would be the ones in the firing line. I'd take Pedersen over Frost for the moment. Both Stretch and Wagner keep their places, having done just enough, though personally, not yet sold on Wagner at this level.

If Vince gets a week, they may go for Hunt, hopefully to give us some run and drive off half-back. Vince had more I50's than anyone else today.

As for ANB - I don't know if we can fit him, Harmes and Stretch in the same side.

But matchups to play a role, and even a player like O'Mac could come in if necessary.

Decisions, decisions.

Im worried bringing Brayshaw in will backfire again and shatter his confidence.  One more game at Casey for mine, though it will be hard to not bring him in if VInce gets rubbed out

ANB in is a must I reckon, he has earned it and hes better than a few out there yesterday

Extremely harsh on Wagner thought he played well for debut. Twice he had sure hands and picked up a hot ball under immense pressure at his feet also laid a huge tackle for us. Didn't see him do to much wrong. The dropped mark by Frost in last qtr under no pressure when we were attacking was so costly. He offers nothing and does not look like taking or kicking a goal. Bring in Wieds even if he is underdone he will be better then Frost.

I do think we're being a bit precious with Petracca. I haven't seen Wiedemann play but it doesn't sound like he's ready. Bring in Petracca and leave out Matt Jones forever. Didn't anyone see his two massive turnovers in the first quarter, one that directly resulted in a goal for them and one that resulted in the ball rebounding out of our fifty and the ball going down the other end for another goal for them? Why on earth did we keep him and Turlich at the end of last season?

I would be careful with Jeffie's ankle. Give it at least two weeks. Also Brayshaw should come back in. Bugg could go out for him.

I conceed there's no way they'd make this many changes to a team that only lost by 5 points. But personally i'd go with;

IN: Brayshaw, Garlett, O. McDonald, Neal-Bullen, Pedersen

OUT: Bugg, Frost, M. Jones, Vandenberg, Wagner

FB: O. McDonald, Dunn, Jetta

HB: Lumumba, T. McDonald, Salem

C: Tyson, N. Jones, Kennedy

HF: Oliver, Pedersen, Kent

FF: Watts, Hogan, Garlett

FOLL: Gawn, Vince, Viney

INT: Brayshaw, Harmes, Neal-Bullen, Stretch

EMERG: Bugg, Garland, Hunt

Wagner's not ready, the Frost forward experiment should end, we all know M. Jones isn't best 22, Vandenberg is under performing and Bugg seems to just be a fraction off IMO. However if Vince gets suspended i'd say he should keep his place.

Petracca could just about be ready by round 5, so guys like Harmes & Kent will need to back up their improved performances with even better showings vs the filth.

There is zero chance of Harmes being dropped.

if Garlett fit he must play, otherwise no change. Why make changes after a game like that?. I agree Frost was poor but As someone else has said, you can't pick him one week and drop him the next

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
