What does below VFL standard mean? They've all played very well in the VFL.

Dunn has 'competed' at AFL for a long time. In fact I'd say he's probably been the rough standard for typical AFL key defender the last two years in a pretty ordinary team. 

Oscar's played 3 games and is 20 years old. Hunt hasn't debut yet. He was a project player. Good clubs have plenty of these who you've never heard of until they debut and play games after years in the system.

Stretch is the type of young player good sides have in spades as well. Professional. Hard worked. Knows his role and can already perform it decently for a young player in a struggling side. 

Sydney have Ted Richards who's about 40 years old and Michael Talia who just got injured as key backs. They'd love to borrow Dunn from us. And I suspect they'd like to look of Oscar as well. 

I'm tipping Geelong wouldn't mind Billy Stretch. They took Blease as a possible outside runner. Stretch in his first year looked more composed and efficient than Blease ever did.

I really rate Stretch, i had him in my best 22 before the year started, i'd like to see him come into the side and give us some run off half back, allowing us to move Salem up the ground where he might have a bit more of an impact

In a losing side Kent has to go.  Only 5 disposals and nearly full game time.  Yet Oliver and Brayshaw only had just over half game time each for a combined 25 possessions.  Coaches should never have left Kent on the ground for as long as they did, when he wasn't producing.

O Mac is a miniscule 82 Kg !   He'll be monstered by any big KPF.    Even Watts is 92kg,   Brown & Petrie are 101Kg.  I think the only 3 we can successfully put against Norf's 3 big, tall forwards are TMac, Dunn and Frost, unless Jessie goes back for a change of scenery and mindset for a bit.   I don't expect it to happen though

Kent is arguably the biggest mystery out of that game. What happened for his output to be SO down?

A good point. Injured? or given a role that didnt work?  He sure didnt look like himself did he. I dont really buy " the players had big heads" line btw ...its just impossible to believe that any melb player has a big head leading into a game given our last decade. Nor do I buy " the players didnt come to play" We've been down the road of blaming the players instead of the coaches before in the Neeld era. To me that was a lazy excuse offered by Roos post match. To his credit he did say" he picked the wrong team" but then said he's got it right "for the last month" ( 3 NAB games) which mean pretty much NOTHING and shouldn't be refered to. 

I hope ( and to be honest trust) that the minds at work down there now with Goodwin, McCartney and Roos have the scope to  analyse what went wrong with team selection, pre prepared tactics , game day moves and  team preparation. Saying the players werent trying doesnt cut it for me.

He is not an accumulator at all. Either not smart enough, or too lazy or a combination of both. He has never racked up big numbers, even at VFL level. Ball in hand he is damaging, but we've all played footy with those blokes who are sensational trainers but on game day...........

Stretch is another scrawny 180 cm 71kg person. Blease was useless. None of them have played that well in the VFL. We're just used to accepting lower standard players after all these years of cellar dwelling.

Pretty much agree 'tappy' although I think he often lets himself and the team down with ball in hand.

No mystery 'P-man', he's highly overrated on here and maybe even by the club. He won't make it unless he pulls the finger, a very lazy player who picks and chooses way to much.

Kent is renowned for his pace but quite frankly I think this is the most over-rated quality he has. I think his pace is confused by the fact he likes to take the opposition on when he's got the ball by putting a few extra steps than is warranted. Sometimes he gets away with it, other times not so much.

I love his left foot and the power he can put thru the ball but that means squat if you can't win possession.

I think he needs to find touch in the VFL. ANB or Stretch find more of the footy and can do some clever things.

Will be very interested to watch this game @ Bellerive Oval, was pumped about seeing my first Dees match for quite a few years prior to the loss on the weekend, not super fussed about the result, as on form and predictions North should win this, but how our boys respond to the loss is the more critical focus for me.

The response this week at the selection table should be very interesting, changes have to be made, but Roos in the past has been prepared to allow players an opportunity to atone for the prior week, but cannot ignore the form of those pushing for selection in the VFL.

The biggest problem I see at the moment is that you can't place a high priority on the form of the players in the VFL as they haven't even started the season. ANB got 36 possessions and had a solid game, but it was still a praccy match. Its a farce that the VFL is so far behind the the AFL season in starting!!

All that being said, ANB and Dunn could be likely ins. I suspect Brawshaw will be looked at very carefully this week to assess whether he is up for the game, the selection committee may have also been a bit cute and thought that he could get an 'easy' game under his belt with Essendon, and got caught out. If Brayshaw doesn't look right then he needs to go back to the VFL and bring in some run from someone like Stretch or Hunt. Hope like hell they resist bringing Petracca in for this week, can't have players that are not match fit, but I get a sneaky suspicion they will be starting to look closer at Trengove.

Dunno who misses out... too many candidates after last week.

I agree, but the difficulty is then do you apply the same standard to Watts - 0 (None, doughnuts) tackles? Not alone, and by no means should he be the whipping boy for the disaster, but It's difficult to justify keeping players in with low possessions, or low tackles. He wasn't alone - well, he was, actually. Kent, VDB, TomMc, Bradshaw and Hogan had 1. It makes for depressing reading.
