Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Tasmanians' some advice please.

You're right of course on both counts. Unfortunately I have to be back in Sydney Sunday night and can't spend 5 or 6 hours flying back.

If you have a bit of time to get there early there are a few streets out to the east of the stadium that might be a go-er. Nice fish and chip shop on the foreshore so grab some lunch early to avoid hanging around with nothing to do... But not many large carparks to speak of that I know of.

Thats only about a 200m walk max after you get out of the stadium.

Never been to Tassie before...

I'll be braving the elements in Row A of the Hill Stand seating. Hope it stays dry. God I love undercover seating!

Shurely any Dees tragic visiting Hobart would not pass up the opportunity to dine at Rockwall Bar + Grill co owned by Footy Card Hall of Famer Garry Baker and one Ronald Barassi.

As is traditional when watching the Dees playing interstate a state league game is in order so I'll be at Hobart City v Burnie at North Hobart Oval at 1pm on Saturday.

Then some MONA - who'd have thunk that Brian Ritchie of the Femmes would one day be a Gallery Director in Hobart - and a boat trip to Port Arthur...

Thanks again DaleDee, I did contact the club and although the original allocation was sold out they applied for further tickets. I received a call today offering tickets in the Ricky Ponting stand bay four. Much cheaper than the AFL were offering as well.

Quite satisfied with the result although after Saturday's abysmal effort maybe I should be holidaying at Cape York rather than Tassie.

You've done very well. I got tickets in the initial allocation and they were only available in the first 4 rows on the Hill. No stand and too close for my usual preference.

Thanks Biff, but you can keep your map of Tassie to yourself.

Had a great time down there and was oh so close to going home with an unexpected win.

Same here, bay 15, seat B18 or something. Was good from the point of view of it being at the scoring end, but I couldn't see anything down the other end of the field thanks to the sun and being too close to the ground. Was great to be surrounded by MFC fans though.

Can't believe the buggers who got their tickets late got Ponting stand seats! I wonder if the club has any say on their allocation of seats?

Seems the later you leave it the better the tickets. I was going to book a couple of weeks earlier but they didnt' know if I'd end up in Bay 15 or anywhere to Bay 21. I didn't want 15 so I left it for a few weeks. When I went back to them they confirmed it was in Bay 21. At least that was on the wing.  But as you say being down the scoring end was probably a better option. The seats were so low even though I was in row 4 and the ground had a natural gradient going higher in the midddle, that I was about at calf height to the players. No hope of seeing what was going on the other side of the ground. I guess the Club kept applying for tickets outside their allocation as people applied very late and the Ponting Stand was where they ended up.

But as you say, great to be surrounded with Dees supporters. Very funny, whenever HL got the ball everyone around me was yelling out as a chorus "Kick it." Memories of doing too much and bombing it for a turnover. Must admit he his line breaking runs mostly worked and he seemed to be kicking with much more direction.

It'be handy if there was a scoreboard on the GrandStand side for the plebs on the outer wing to see the score!

I am still on Van Demons Land. MONA Monday, Tasman Peninsula Wilderness Cruise(Fantastic!) and Port Arthur today, Bruny Island tomorrow.

  • 2 weeks later...

A few comments/observations after a couple of weeks in Tassie.

You need rain.

Blundstone Arena is an excellent stadium particularly for those shrewd enough to gain tickets to the Ponting stand.

The public are a friendly lot.

Boags is the better drink on tap.

Why no four lane highway between your two major cities ? Farcical.

Why no water restrictions in the South of the State ?

Some of the boutique wineries in the Tamar Valley are great. Shame they don't produce enough to share with the mainland.

The coastline in the east is stunning.

Surprising number of businesses do not accept credit cards. Dodgy ?

You need rain.

You need rain. - Yep.

Blundstone Arena is an excellent stadium particularly for those shrewd enough to gain tickets to the Ponting stand. - My seats were a bit sucky - too close to the ground and looking directly in to the sun when facing the far end.  Will push for Ponting stand next time; shamefully the last time I went to the ground, the Ponting Stand didn't exist.

The public are a friendly lot.

Boags is the better drink on tap.

Why no four lane highway between your two major cities ? Not in the hotly contested election area sadly.  There is a gold plated highway between Launceston and Burnie though.  Most of us would settle for a road between Hobart and Launceston that was in a driveable condition, doesn't seem to be anyone's priority though.

Why no water restrictions in the South of the State ? - not sure. We do get them in summer sometimes. Maybe drinking water reserves are still okay? I know from first hand experience that the Hydro dams are pretty sick (I work there).

Some of the boutique wineries in the Tamar Valley are great. Shame they don't produce enough to share with the mainland.

The coastline in the east is stunning. Yep.  Some awesome camping spots in the North East if you're in to that kind of thing.

Surprising number of businesses do not accept credit cards. Dodgy ? - just backwards.  It's very frustrating.

You need rain.  Desperately.

See replies above! Good stuff Smithy - catch up next time.  I'd have sent you a PM to sort something out this time except I was pretty much unable to commit to anything. As it was it took all my willpower to drag myself to the footy - glad I did though!

We love the place, did the west coast in 1968 and this was our first visit since. Been waiting for years for a Dees game to coincide with a short holiday.

One highlight was a night in a B&B at Little Swanport staring at an open fireplace with a nice bottle of red.

Easily pleased in our old age.

Hi gs, unfortunately no takers. But I did have dinner at Gary Bakers Rockwall bar & grill. Served by Brent Croswells son. Place was full of Dee's supporters. Could not recommend it highly enough. Had one of the best steaks I've had anywhere una very long time. Outstanding service. Got a hello from the great man himself.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
