Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

If nothing else, I think the club learned a lot about what not to do when building a list from the Prendergast years.

Had to learn in the hardest way possible, but looks like we've learned.

Wasn't hard though was it

draft in solid young guys who want to hunt the ball.

Prendergast and his team were clueless. What were they triying to build?

nicely behaved boys who look good in a Blazer?

Ahh to read a Red and Blueprint.

How can an experienced CEO construct a Template that is so wrong on every level?

if it was his first job then maybe a small amount of understanding, but it was his 4th term!!!

True but few of them are starting from such a low base as we have been trawling in over the past few years. We don't have to do a real lot to make a quantum improvement. Things like know our basic game plan. Have the fitness to run both ways. Have big enough bodies to compete to get the ball. Basic understanding of where to position yourself on the field. Basic understanding of the game to be able to anticipate where the opposition are likely to kick the ball rather than waiting for it to be kicked and then chase after it and hope to hit the contest. Have a basic structure of competitive players in every position rather than having gaping holes with no competitive players. Like our forward line over the pre Jesse era.

We have already seen plenty of these things appear over the preseason. It's not overnight. They've been building since Roosy arrived but now the full package to whatever standard that is at present, is ready. Who knows what it'll translate to in wins.  But it is clearly better footy. And there's a lot more depth of talented, knowledgeable, adequately conditioned, skilled players.

Agree well put

Gawn, Tom McD, & Dunn all showed some talent & ability from their first few games Oscar has not.  He was at Casey reserves for the first half of 2015 then got 2 charity games at the end.

In the NAB games this year he has been awful and pretty much completely lost.  He has no strength or physical aggression, poor vision and ordinary disposal.

I sincerely hope he makes it too but lets keeps some perspective.

For God's sake..he has only played two ruddy games of AFL.

as you state, he has progressed very well....isn't that some perspective...called development...

yes CJ,  & good lessons learned,  but they cannot stop the negatives from well-meaning supporters who give the unhealthy message just trying to help.   Some players can stay realistic,  & some lose perception from the backslapping,  & get carried away with themselves & lose discipline.

the message here is Garlett has shown already in his past,  that he can get wayward.

imo,  he would be better served,  kept a tad insecure of his spot,  but needs at the same time to be fully confident onfield.  2 different things. can be symbiotica

Dunno about 'dynasty' talk, but it is quite remarkable that in a single draft/trade period we look like we brought in as many as ten AFL-credible players.

The OP is going to wet himself when he remembers Aaron VandenBerg from the rookie draft that year as well.

As a side note - the superpower teams of recent years - Geelong, Hawthorn and Sydney - each got to the point they are at by a combination of one or two 'stellar' recruiting periods, followed by a stretch of consistently effective years targeting deficiencies, and then a final 'push' piece of great recruiting (e.g. Selwood, Rioli, Hanneberry) that made a serious contribution to lifting them another step from 'winner' to 'dynasty'.

I say, bring on the few years of consistent and efficient recruiting to eliminate deficiencies. And then the next Ian Ridley! (130 games, 5 premierships - on the cusp of being actually impossible now)

OMG! I was so excited about this trading and drafting list, I don't want to use the term "premature" posting on the back of your reference to "wet himself" but how I could have left out the rookies Vanders and M White is hard to otherwise explain.

A few wins under Beckwith, then Ridley. Was it opening five straight?

How come Roden never got a game.

Waited through the Skilton/Ditterich years. But for an errant Robert Walls kick could've had JOY.  Yeah forgot Denis  Jones, Wayne Reid, Sir Billy.

Moore and Templeton and return of the prodigal son. Robbie to half back said it all.

Five minutes of sunshine in one fell SWOOP. Enter Dipper and Dermie.

Rebuild and rebuild. Balmey anD the Rev. And Scwarters knee, Jacko's back, Stings and Charles.

Spoons, Diamond Joe and Long's knee. Jimmy, Bailey and Neeld.

Spare me the dynasty please.

Haha keep your eye on the Red and The Blue hey Radar!

My first year following the Demons closely was 1971. I think we won the first 8 games, thinking "How good is this"

i do rememember wearing the full Melbourne Kit to school  (Black or White Shorts in winter) with the Ron Barassi Hi Cut Plastic Boots

We have seen it all except the Big One...

;) spot on,  the wrong people in the club in-charge, but this is near chronic with us...  50 yrs of fails does not lie.  5 yrs can deceive,  but 50 of the same-old/same-old (barass/northey excepted)

does not lie.  Barass would not come on board unless changes were made more than 12 months out.  so he had a chance to change things. he did.  we reaped results from his teams-work

no,  well not really,  the fish rots from the head.   We have had people (boards) in-charge of hiring people,  who just didn't know what to do,  & how to do it.  they are your culprits.  they hired the wrong people, who in-turn,  made bad dee-cisions.

..... so, its our fault,  as a Club,  we have to make sure in future we have truly Footy Smart people,  & not just ex-players making our decisions on the Board,  like the Hiring of Coaches,  our Recruiting Managers,  & the Footy Department heads,  Re development.

....  we cannot blame others,  because that encourages us to be apathetic when voting for directors.   This is where the worst of our fails has happened...

50 yrs tells us its so.

long live 'Checker & Smith's, & Barass's reputations,  for building fierce competitiveness into they're clubs.

agree,   I don't think he has been ruled on..  other than he's just turned 20,  & the others are still 19... stretch etc.  they don't have the bodies for it Yet.

others are ahead on seniority maturity.  ANB will get a go IMO,  later this season.

Gone a bit early mate Few more topics/posts (good) before talking DYNASTY yet. Also the players listed are all complimentary players.

Its not the year its the core group which in my opinion is Hogan, Salem, Tyson, Viney, Petracca, Brayshaw, Oliver with maybe Weideman ?

Keeping them together in 3-5 years time might be tight ..?

Was thinking about Collingwood's and Geelong's ability to attract experienced players from other clubs last trade season, and think that at the end of this season we should be in a similar position to target and attract specific experienced players to fill any holes in our team as we confidently contemplate serious finals action from 2017 on.

It would appear to be the final stage required to push into the top 4... as shown by the recruiting of last seasons top 4.

A lot riding on this year being a good one, in order for us to be able to do this.

There's a wonderfull shift that happens as your team rises, where you switch from being the hunted to being the hunters.

DYNASTY's are not made from talking of them,,,   mostly talk of them only causes Rome to Fall.

I think they a built on quiet & strong foundations of hard work,  & real talented builders.  they happen from this quietly, & then they stand for the ages.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
