Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

They are always used and the doctors have some responsibility to get them right. I don't hate the medical report, I hate how much they count the impact.

Anyway, in this case the medical report was obviously all clear so it's worked for us.

Interested to see Vickery's medical report after last week. "Away with fairies....pretty well all game"

It's the free kick for it that bothers me.

At first glance the umpire let it go, which I believe was the correct call. Then paid the free after he saw the reaction by whichever idiot got polaxed.

Imagine that was in the heat for 4 points, Pedo pretty much did the right thing, if he bent down he still risked getting him high or a head clash and a 50/50 result at best. What he did eliminated the opponent and got the ball going into space our way.

If that type of thing cost anyone 4 points I'd be furious.

And if we're going to pay frees for reactions, congratulations to Lindsay Thomas on your Coleman Medal.

Winning isn't based on who deserves to win ... if it was, we could skip the H&A season and just go straight to the finals!

I'll take whatever (legal) help we can get. The record book will only ever show who got the points.

We should take the fine and be grateful.  While the bump was to the shoulder, his forearm hit the side of the head.  A bit more acting from the saint and it would have been a week.  Given the long and infamous history the MRP have of using the MFC to make a statement about how tough they are on certain rules, I'm amazed they didn't give him two weeks with a reduction for an early plea and good record to one.

yes, but the reason the AFL pick on us is because we do not fight them, and we've  pro--gressively  grown smaller under this idealistic soft way.    the AFL get away with picking on us with our 'gentile touch'.   this is a part of our political correctness.   the over polite club....   never ever rocks anyones boat !

Doesn't anyone here want to stop whinging about 'woe is us',  & fight back ?     the way to stop being picked on is to challenge them back.

I hope PJackson has more balls than this.  if we are to seriously change this club from here on in..   then we MUST start in 2016,  on all fronts.

i thought this thread was going to be about his lack of speed, his inability to compete for four quarters, the fact that he really only has an influence in 6-8 contests a game and his long term viability in our side...

i guess i am just used to all the other threads that get started.

AFL politics is all about power and we have sweet fanny adams.

When Eddie gripes about this or that, Gill drops everything to listen. When a "power" club gets 34 players suspended, the AFL machine rumbles into action to fast track their return to power.

When we kick up a stink, the AFL threaten us with home games at Etihad, Sunday twilight games against Freo, 2 trips to Perth & 2 to Qld ... etc. "Review" the QB draw. They might accidentally forget the exact amount to pay us under the competitive balance arrangements.

It's not really about us being "polite" or compliant. Or PJ having "balls". We are not yet powerful enough to force issues in our favour.

Only wins, supporters, attendances, sponsorships .... (ie money in the AFL coffers) will bring that power.

I've never liked this line of thinking. If we can't beat them at their best then do we deserve to win?

If that's the 'line of thinking' that you prefer, then you're basically saying that we didn't deserve to win what I would say would be the majority of the games over the past 3-4 years.

Aside from us having to play really well in some aspects of the game for our wins, they've also been helped by either the opposition being really inaccurate, missing a number of key players and/or not playing 'at their best'. Or a combination of all three.

There's no such thing as 'deserving to win'. It's sport and there will always be variables that change outcomes of games regardless of which team is seen as the favourite.

All I'm interested in is our team starting the season off with as many wins as possible. The fact is, we can't beat a GWS team at full strength playing at their best. Because they're a stronger, quicker, more skillful and experienced side than us at present. We still need to rely on variables outside of our control to help determine the result. That doesn't mean we can't play a part in it by performing well also. But we're not at a stage where we can simply beat teams because of the quality of our side. (Bar perhaps one or two clubs this year).

My comment was tongue-in-cheek anyway.

power is about accepting it,,,,,   its not the size of the dog,  but the fight in the dog.  we have been too 'MCC'  all these last decades,  where zipped lips are seen as strong...   well thats worked just fine, hasn't it.

We have to act up,  & fire back in the press like big'ead does,  like Sheedy did,  the Bombers learnt to fight & became power-full,  the Hawks learnt to be tough rugged & learnt to fight the other powers,  & became power-full..

We wilted,  just like the flowers we'd become.

Well its time to reverse that trend,  that holier than thou trend.

We have an ex Bomber in the top spot,  PJ,  so he should know how to fight,  even if he's in the AFL's pocket,  to do 'our job',  for them...   we don't want to be on an AFL drip forever & a Winter.

We have to learn to stop being so politically correct,  & dare to fight & dare to Win.   And we have to be a diverse club of all demographics,  our support base.

You do realise that I have the power to ban you.

Of course I want a win and I will take any situation we can get.

Sure I'd like the umpiring decisions to go our way and a bit of opposition yips is appreciated but I just don't think we have to pray for injuries to key opposition players prior to the game to get the win.

Ummm.

Not sure what the tone is behind the screen, but I'm definitely confused.

If serious, I'm not entirely sure what I'd be receiving a ban for... Unless this place is a dictatorship...?

I simply made a rebuttal to your comment and for the second time, my first post was tongue-in-cheek. I was making a point that it's going to be a difficult game.

Jeez. Maybe Fitzroy should have learnt to fight, become tough and rugged, and fired back and rocked the boat. They should have dared to win. Maybe they'd still be around today?

Fitzroy did dare to fight,  they had lost out geographically.  support base wise.

we Mfc,  had a big support base once,  within a closer social society which we all lived in pre-60's...   those (attitude) who got Smith,  also led our dee-mise.   the club slowly became closed off to the public.  and so to our support base outside the MCC & then the northern special areas.  the kids could no longer get to the players race unless a member,  & then none could get to the players race at all, unless in the MCC.

the kids lost touch,  then so did the dads.  as the kids were the excuse that allowed dads to get quietly close to their idols.

then the ground was off limits to the public before & after games.

then we were bombarded with costly food,  drinks,  entry tickets,  & then the worst farce was being bombarded with loud adds over the loud speakers & ground announcers..... please.

all so we cannot get close to our Hero's.

........ now theres an exhilarating experience,   paying thru the nose,  from the 'carpark'  to the exit gate.

This talk of 'AFL power' and 'failure to fight' is 50% rubbish and 50% delusion. It's time some here stopped feeling persecuted and left that attitude to others, like Collingwood and Western Bulldog supporters. One sign of real strength is to take charge of your own actions and consequences.

A fine was appropriate for Pedersen. If it had been a player from another club in the same act toward a Melbourne player, some on here would be calling for a week or two. Accept the error, take the penalty, and run.

I can't tell from the vision I saw where contact was. I hope you are right and it was the shoulder. It didn't look great from the head on vision, but at least the player got up and continued on..

If not I have something he can use in his defence. Show the film of Merrett's attack on his face witha forearm, as he marked the ball. That left him with a broken nose and a no charge to answer for Merrett. Don't think the Saint went off bleeding profusely from the face.

This current incident also made me think back to Merrett's thuggery . Could the MRP or some rules dimwit or even Gil, please play the footage of these two incidents side by side and explain why one incurs a penalty and one does not? I admit to being thoroughly confused by the rules associated with tackles and bumps.

Agreed. I thought he was looking at a week, maybe two, when I first saw it. I know it wasn't anything dirty, but the head is sacrosanct these days. If it had have been me I'd take the fine and then party like I'd just won the lottery.

This is your favourite topic which you talk about ad nauseum, often nonsensically.

What does it mean in practical terms though? What are some examples of things you think we should be doing that we currently don't, to support your points above? Real-life examples, not just incoherent bluster please.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
