Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

All back men and mids, no forwards.... I find that interesting

Not when I played. The forward types were all scatty types, may be there next year but maybe not. Your ruckman, and number one mid were stalwarts of the side and end of year activities

Would love to know what they know that we don't. Goodwin said weeks ago they could see improvement in "meetings". Wonder what that means. Whatever it all is they all seem to be seeing it. I suspect its that we are coming from such a low base, they are finally seeing players who are discussing the game plan in a way that indicates that they actually understand it for the first time since that Freo final in '06 ended any semblance of understanding the game plan.

Paul (addressing the group): "Now boys in this footage here you can see the Bulldogs players attacking, what are you meant to do?"

Colin (nervously raises hand): "Def... def... defend?"

Paul: "YES! YES BOYS! DEFEND! YOU'VE GOT IT"

wow Max Gawn in the leadership group

Speaks volumes for his growth as a player and a leader

From a bloke who got told to stop mucking around so much and take things seriously or there may not be a place at the club for him to leadership group and one of the most promising players on the rise in the comp really says it all.

well done max

Please pass on my son Liam's regards to Max Gawn... tell him he was the kid from Sydney he met who had done his knee (he gave him the signed mini footy at the end of the GWS game - last game of the season).  Will be interested to hear if he still remembers.

Sorry hardtack but by the time I got to read your message, Max was gone but I'll catch up with him soon and tell him then.

At the 2016 season launch on a table with Max Gawn, Mitch King and Josh Wagner which makes this virtually the main table.

A lot of greats of the club are here including RDB, Noel McMahon, Stan Alves and ... Neale Daniher?

Hope it was a strong table, how'd it hold up? :roos:

Held up well and it was an enjoyable night. I came and left full of optimism but then again, that's where I'm always at this time of the year. Is there a point of difference? I guess it's the number of young players in the 18-22 age group who appear to have exceptional potential. It's also Max Gawn's threat to become a top tier AFL ruckman (i.e top 4) because if that happens then our capacity to improve by 4 to 5 games on last year is no longer unrealistic.

Reading the tweets last night there is a sense of a strong, steely resolve at the club epitomised by these words from Bartlett:

Bartlett said that “whilst progress is being made, we won’t rest for even a minute”.

“Whilst there is still noise from time to time about our club, we’re not listening and we won’t be distracted.

“I am personally more fiercely determined than ever to carry out our vision for the club. Bring on the season and go Melbourne.”

I know it is preseason but I've not noticed such resolve before and the determination is significant as it is consistent and genuine from the top to the bottom of the MFC.  Belief starts here!  It will grow with every win, with every time we come back during a game.  Losses won't send everyone into the pits.  We are developing the mental fortitude of our club and our players.

How far will it take us?  I reckon if that resolve is carried onto the field and we play out every game with that fierce determination it might sneak us over the line to pinch a few extra wins!

An interesting reference to 'noise' by Bartlett.  I very much doubt we will hear the words 'mental scars' or 'veil of negativity' ever again!  Already the word I am hearing in the media is 'fierce' eg for Gawn, Viney, Hogan, Vince, Jones.  Soon they will talk about Petracca, Vandenberg, Oliver also being fierce!   If we become the most fierce team to play against in 2016 I will be very, very happy!

Yep, hungry and fierce for 2016!

I was a little disappointed by Jackson's and Roos speeches.  They gave no real information that we didn't already know.  Roos gave some examples of players who got the best from themselves and the message was "if it is to be it is up to me".  We'll all heard that before.

I'm a huge Jackson fan but apart from telling us we've got great people there was little else of substance although it was good to hear we have a full book of sponsors - a fantastic effort given where we've come from.

IMO at a season launch where people are paying a significant amount to attend the function a little more should be offered.  There was no indication of the expectations of the club, no analysis of where we sit relative to others and no comments on any of the players individually which I reckon is disappointing.  No information on three players we are all interested in - Petracca, Trengove and Brayshaw.

I haven't watched Glenn Bartlett's speech.  Is it any good?

Am I getting this right? You are complaining the free stuff you got from the website is upsetting because other members paid "significant amounts to attend"? Where they got all the speeches along with catering?

I thought the 3 differerent Speeches were great

the Club has been set and Roosy particularly was saying to the players "if you want to be great it is up to you. We will show you what to do and support you but the Players have to want to get there themselves as a group.

"To drive yourself beyond just natural talent"

i liked what Glen said. "During pre season people all through club WANTED TO BE THERE"

no idea what Bagdad was on about....

Had a chat to Clarry Oliver on the night. I put it to him that his hanger against the Doggies was a ripper - to which he coyly replied that he "didn't even get off the ground."

Either the guy is seriously humble, or we have the next Nic Nat on our list...

I just look forward to him saying they are just as hungry for a 3rd premiership as they were for the first 2.

I'll go with seriously humble, had a great chat with him at the family day about being a young kid from the country dealing with city life and afl expectations on top of that . He's a gun and a gentleman.

Wrecker I'm not "complaining the free stuff" at all.  I was commenting, basically in reply to someone who said the speeches were good, that I thought the speeches were disappointing.  I then went on to suggest what sort of things could be discussed in the speeches. Other things could have been the new academy's, limited rotations, the new television rights and our changing game plan.  Different people are interested in different things is suppose but that's what I'd be interested in.

Attendance at the season opener is not cheap and people don't go for the catering.  You'd get a better meal at any number of restaurants at a fraction of the cost.  Therefore I think people go for the "football experience" and a large part of that experience is to hear from the Chairman, CEO and coach.  The better their input the more likely people are to attend and the more money the club will make.

I was disappointed in the speeches.  Is that ok?

It's a great phrase but probably bunkum. You can't tell me the club wouldn't extend the book by adding a chapter if another sponsor wanted to come on board.

Bob's right. The speeches were just speeches and you can include Glenn Bartlett's in that lot as well. I could have written the script for them six months ago if they wanted and they would have sounded the same. We never get much more at any of these functions - they've been the same for decades (except for Schwabbie's with all those charts and tables which were fascinating but nobody quite understood what they were about). A lot of talk for not much result. Even the food they serve tastes the same, the Diet coke's, Diet Coke (but perhaps a bit more watered down).

Roosy's speech was the best of the three and I liked the way he introduced the leadership group.Simon Goodwin's interview/on the couch chat with Jonesy, Vincey and Percey was good but as I said somewhere else, the highlight was Maxy's "Gawn in 60 seconds". It was humorous, down to earth and brought out the personality in the players.

I do pays me money to go to these nights but I don't expect much. I will expect more in two and half weeks time when the boys run out against the imposters in the hare krishna colours and I hope we make mincemeat out of them.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
