Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Tom McDonald (and Oscar) SIGNS.

As usual, his contested work was superb and he let himself down on the odd occasion with his disposal. Didn't think he was that bad though. Wagner's kicking was far worse. A couple of his turn overs resulted in momentum swings.

That's the frustrating thing about this team. You're just waiting for someone to make a momentum-turning howler.

He has tickets on himself, thinks he's a better kick than what he is, thinks he can sell candy, thinks he's worth Dangerfield money. Get over yourself Tom. I'd rather he stayed but logistically two Frost types on 350k is better than one Tom McDonald on 700. B-grade defenders aren't that hard to find.

Why would we give a young experienced KPD to Sydny and get a small midfielder. We have got Petrac/Angus and ginger meggs all lined up.

Clubs would be queuing up for Tmac and MFC Mob see him as scapegoat !!!

Hogan will become one of the great CHF. Tmac will become one of our greatest KPD  so why the rubbish talk !!!

I'm seriously beginning to doubt this, he doesn't appear to have a very good football brain to me. Makes some very ordinary decisions, is next to useless when the ball hits the deck (no second efforts), always takes an eternity to kick after a mark, and can't kick set shots reliably from more than 40 m out.

And so do the opposition.
They just know someone will buck it up and they can burn us on the rebound.

Yep, unfortunately. But with more experience our better players will learn to work through those situations better.

fwiw, tom harley was on 3aw pre-match yesterday and caro point-blank asked him whether tom mcdonald hsa been up to sydney to meet with the swans.

from the sounds of it, something is going on.

nevertheless, harley was dismissive - he quite literally said 'we can't afford him' in reference to t mac.

if they can't afford to keep mitchell (only offering him $350k a year when hawks are offering him $600k) it's hard to see how they could bring t mac in.

Depends on how their salary structure works.

They may only have $350-400K in their midfield budget, but $700K in their tall defender budget. These structures would be necessary, otherwise you could find yourself with a midfield of stars, but a forward line of Tyrone Vickery and Jesse White. With some sort of flexibility, of course.

I think I might speak for the silent majority who just can't be bothered answering every negative comment about Tom (and Oscar) but I'll post here every now and again for balance.

Tom is a terrific footballer.  He is fantastic one on one, he is a great mark both contested and uncontested, he is a fantastic aerobic athlete and most of the time he is a good kick able to make good decisions. He saves many many more goals than he gives away. But he also makes mistakes (like all players) that the haters jump on at every opportunity claiming each and every mistake cost us the game.  It's rot.  If Tom McDonald wasn't in our team we would be noticeably worse. He's being chased by multiple teams who are prepared to pay high dollars for him because they know that at his age you can build a backline around him for 8 to 10 years. He is in the top bracket of tall defenders in the AFL.

I'll be bitterly disappointed if Tom leaves.  He's a vital part of our future and that many can't see that surprises me. The concept of trading Tom for Tom Mitchell is mind numbing.  A key position back who you can build your team around for a 3rd or 4th string mid who's disposal is poor and has been relegated to tagger on multiple occasions.

Please stay Tom, you're a vital part of a very talented young group and to achieve what we all want you're required.

Well Said.

I really think some posters forget that ALL footballers make some mistakes otherwise it would be a nil all draw.  Let us not forget that the side that beat us yesterday played in the Grand Final last year (and also made mistakes that day !!)

I think you need to compare his output to other great forwards at the same age. the figures I saw on couch put him well ahead. He is very good pushing up the ground etc. We forget he is really a CHF who is being asked to play FF. Yesterday he 2 opponents most times. Our issue is the 2 big forward. Dawes was ok at times but is not an arial threat so 2 go to Hogan.

I think he's a young forward with huge raps on him. He will be superstar, but at the moment his defensive work rate is laughable. He just simply doesn't lay tackles either.

Appreciate the concerns but this bloke (Hogan) isn't going to learn the fine arts of today's FF or CHF in a year of a non settled team build.

There's no doubting that we need Tom Mac to stay. But if he's serious about wanting to be part of a successful MFC, then he wouldn't be putting a ridiculous price on his head, as confirmed by Tom Harley at the Swans. He's done nothing to warrant a massive salary, but we know the football landscape, and clubs will throw money at him based on potential.

I don't share Picket Fence's opinion of him, but you massively overrate T. Mac. He's a fantastic aerobic athlete who doesn't know how to get in the right positions to marshall the backline, and can't get near N. Riewoldt whenever we play the Saints. His disposal and decision making are below par. He's not even in the top 10 key defenders for All Australian consideration.

To be successful, we need to attract some top end talent, and that requires salary cap space. If T. Mac isn't prepared to accept a salary based on what he has achieved rather than potential, then he's no better than Scully.

Not sure how that relates to his seeming inability to kick goals from over 40m out and being poor below his knees.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
