Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Angus Brayshaw's knee injury (minor strain - 4 weeks)

If it is what Goodwin says it is, I wonder if he'll be picked for Round 1. I know he's a gun but he's still young and coming off no match practice. If someone like Oliver plays a couple more good games then I'd envisage Brayshaw coming back through the VFL.

Key difference between Oliver and Brayshaw isn't so much their skill, but their abiltiy to play 90% game time at AFL intensity. Oliver only played 57% game time Vs Port, unless he's at 80+ % GT in Nab 3 he wont be there Round 1. Brayshaw has already built that engine and demonstrated it over 20 odd rounds last year.

I'd be more concerned about a minor fracture or the so-called "bone bruising" that shows up on MRI given the mechanism of injury. ACL tear appears unlikely (but still possible, or PCL).

Having torn an Medial & ACL in seperate incidents, you can walk on an ACL no problems but it hurts as soon as you change direction... where as a Medial you can't put weight on or walk properly for a couple of days, feels so much more painful than an ACL but it heals pretty quick and doesnt need surgery.

If he has a low grade (grade 1) then it will be 2 weeks of water walking/running before he gets back on the track... probably 4-5 weeks before full training but you never know with younger guys as they can heal faster.

Like Diamond said, bone bruising or some sort of fracture to the Tibia or Patella all still possible given it was an impact injury. Fingers crossed its only a short time out and he is back firing soon.

I am going to wait on the Docs report. We can guess and speculate in the meantime. Just hope its not a LTI.

Interesting you torn a med. and you couldnt put weight on it  I also did one. 10 mins into the 1st qtr of a footy match. I got up and could'nt fully bend or straighten my left leg. Went off a few mins later (hobbling). Went for a jog from the bench to the goal posts. Sat out the the rest of that qtr and the 2nd. Came back on after 1/2 time, (got sick of watching). Couldnt get past a quick jog.  3 weeks later it wasnt any better.

Had a doc look at it, and got told I would have been better if I had broken my leg. I did the medial and torn the tendion off the bone behind my knee.

No operation, (although recommended)  took the retirement option. Never played again.

So I guess, the point is, you couldn;t put weight on it, I could. I just couldn't fully bend or straighten mine. It hurt like hell when I tried.

On Brayshaw, I hope whatever the report is they (MFC) give him twice as long to recover, if its a medial, because if it's weakened, the next time it might just rip it apart.

Wouldn't give much weight to the website report. Brayshaw was walking a bit in the change rooms after the injury, just as soon as they decided he was done for the day they gave him crutches and the point is not to put weight on it so that it can rest up and start to heal. Nothing to do with whether he could put weight on it, more than for the next few days + he shouldn't.

Want competitive football, expect collision injuries. Lets hope mainly to opponents.

It wasn't a collision injury. His foot stuck in the turf and twisted as the tackle was applied.

But I get your point.

That's not how we roll here at Demonland though Bob.  There are 'doctor's' littered all over this site who'll be able to determine what's happened without scans or actually being there.  Let them have their fun!

thats it, that is what forums & particularly footy forums are all about. conjecture perceptions & chat. it all adds up to interest in AFL footy.

Considering the Trengove debacle this decision is just staggering.
You know, if you were a player contemplating changing clubs you'd want to go somewhere they weren't too tight to send you for a forken scan.

All very sage comments and lets hope the club does everything to look after young Gus.  (...and the club still needs to confirm the report in the Australian).

On the positive side it means the injury is on the minor side, as reported by Goodwin and in all likelihood Gus will line up in round 1 rather than miss the first part of the season.

And hello to the world of diagnostic overservicing. The 'better to be safe than sorry' mania for diagnostic imaging is one of the main reasons our Public Health Service is struggling, all driven by the expectations coming from private medicine. If he doesn't need a scan, he doesn't f***ing need a scan.

Always love your insight.

As reported, is it usually a 2-4 week injury ?

I'm sure the club has taken every minute precaution possible to be very sure that Gus doesn't need a scan. If there was even a tiny shred of doubt, why would they not go ahead?

Seems strange they have cancelled the scans.  Better to be safe than to be sorry and with the terrible luck this club has had over a long period the scans should absolutely be done.

He needs a scan cos this club has a nice history of not getting these right. 4-6 usually means f***ing season.

better to remove all doubt. And I'm sure a professional footballer getting a scan isn't going to stuff up our public hospital system. In fact, I'd be pretty sure it wouldn't even occur at a public hospital.

I re read the articles re the injury on our web site and scans were not mentioned. In fact Goodwin said: "It's just a minor medial, so we'll just assess him as the week goes on,"

The scan seems something assumed by the media or fans.  Also the quote from The Australian does not say scans will be cancelled it says they 'will not be required'.

The club took him off the ground on Saturday to not risk Gus.  They will not risk him now and will give him whatever treatment and rehab is required.

Lets wait the next installment from the club.

Maybe we could ask the other clubs is they know of any special substances that can be used to help heal injuries faster? Surely at least one club out their knows the answer!

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
