Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Maybe. But if it's primarily about Hal Hunter, the story could just be focused on his personal battle with the respective roles of ASADA, WADA and CAS peripheral to the story. And if they try to interview Dank, keep your eye out for him being on his phone. It seems to be his "go to" strategy whenever he leaves a courtroom, I assume to avoid having to make any comments. I seriously doubt there is anyone on the other end.

Reported in the Hun that Dank lost all but one part of his defamation case. No damages awarded to him and he has to pay the telegraphs legal costs, which are in excess of 2 MILLION DOLLARS!.

Guess that is the end of his legal fight as he will now not be able to afford it.

Was interesting the different tone in the article talking about Dank than the one used talking about the Dons. Not surprised though.

Yes ... and my heart bleeds for the Dankster who has vowed to fight on ~

Dank vows to appeal lost defamation case

"On Friday, another chapter in the Dank saga was concluded, with Justice McCallum ordering him to pay all legal costs associated with the trial. He was also denied damages.

About an hour after the decision, Mr Dank denied it was a bad result and said he would be appealing.

'I'm fine,' he said when asked about his finances."

There are some lawyers who love clients like Dank and Hird. They are the gift that keeps giving. They help send their children and grandchildren through private schools and they contribute greatly towards making the law such a prosperous option for young students deciding upon embarking on a professional career.

"Mr Dank denied it was a bad result." I think some of his hexarelin may have spoiled in the sun.

Doesn't Dank have half a dozen more defamation cases to work through? At this rate he'll end up owing more than 10 mill.

In light of this costs award, what are his chances of getting a real solicitor/barrister working for him now? Knowing that they're probably not going to get paid.

He might end up with Bruce Francis representing him in court.

I would have thought it was the esteemed legal visionary Martin Hardie.

Clearly those at the wheel at Ess and Tania's house listened to the wrong person.

Do you mean - all the friends he has at EFC / AFL  / NRL?

Great headline to a story in today's Australian Dank will need a cash injection.

Very clever!

The cash injection will probably come from the same anonymous source that paid $750,000 of Hird's legal bills recently!

They are all in an incestuous, self preserving cesspool...

If you don't have an Oz subscription, you may be able to access the article by entering "dank will need a cash injection" into Google. It worked for me.

This is why.

Mental health issues

Physical health issues

Can I check that I read that article correctly.  EFC won the court case saying that there were no more documents to be discovered - and subsequently Hal Hunter had to pay for the legal costs of the AFL and EFC.

Then the AFL stepped in and EFC handed over more documents, but the original judgement wasn't overturned.  Is that a fair summary?

Bit of an update in this article: http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/essendon-supplements-scandal-hal-hunter-says-disrespectful-bombers-brushed-him-off-20160320-gnmp7w.html  "Essendon has advised that it will take no further steps regarding the enforcement of the costs order and will continue to hold ongoing discussions with Hal and his family".

I bet that is only because 4Corners is going to air with the story and the AFL fears the bad PR.  I would imagine they tried very hard to have the story pulled and once that failed, last week handed over more documents and dropped the enforcement of costs.  The AFL must gave got heavy with EFC and will continue to:

"The AFL will ensure that the Essendon Football Club delivers on its responsibility to players, and will ensure that the medical protocol agreed to by the Players Association and the football club is fully delivered."

All too little, too late. One wonders what Hunter and other efc players thought when they saw the court case last week that the supplements Dank had given NRL players had allegedly played a role in the spread of John Mannah's cancer from which he subsequently died.

Kudos to Hal Hunter for staying the course.  Must be tough to take on the might of City Hall - a modern day 'David and Goliath'.

Im honestly  amazed that more players / parents haven't moved the same way. I suppose both players and their parents are trying to think of their bigger careers/ income....but trust will be very hard to repaiir I would think.

Totally unconscionable behavior by EFC in pursuing costs then revealing more documents that they appear to have denied the existence of under oath in court.

Who was the judge involved?

Why have EFC if this is all true not been charged with perjury?

What footy allegiances does the DPP, the judge involved,  or whoever would be responsibility for making perjury charges?

From the HUN article today quoting Tim Watson:

Quote

He said he and wife Susie “have been given great comfort” from independent medical advisers that players will not be affected long-term by what they were given.

How can they say that with confidence if they don't know what was injected?   They must at least know what class of substance it was to be able to say that.

As a matter of interest, can a club be charged with perjury or would it have to be an individual? (Either way, I agree with the principle behind monoccular's question.)

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
