if it meant getting him back fit & firing,  I'd be happy for him to only use his R foot this year or onwards.  he was good with either foot as I recall?

Honestly, I don't know the guy's name. He was close to the boundary at one stage while the players were having a break. I said hi & he came over.. I asked specifically about Trenners & then about how I saw him taking snaps. Then asked the question about his left foot. But yeah, it might've been a standard "yeah, he's in a great head space" response. He was positive about him. Anyway.. something to look out closely for next week sessions I think !

Judging by recent pictures and training reports, Vandenberg is in for a massive year.

He now has a season under his belt (which he exceeded expectations), comes into his second pre-season, and looks in tip top condition.

Vandenberg could become an elite footballer (A-Grade). I didn't see many flaws in his game last year, he does everything very well, and should only get better.

I'll temper expectations a bit. It's hard for mature age players in 2nd seasons because sometimes there isn't a lot of natural improvement left. His kicking and decision making need some work, he's very straight lined, which is a relief compared to so many of our past players but could be a weakness. I expect he'll have to get used to juggling time on the ball, wing and half forward as well. 

I'm super excited for his tackling, ball winning, bumps, and bursting runs, but elite might be a step too far. I'm hoping he can take more marks this year as well, both out in space and inside 50.

Well said. I think Viney was similar, but once he slowed down, harnessed his aggression, he has been able to use it (aggression) more effectively, and as a result of slowing down, his decision making and kicking has improved. Additionally, I think Jack's tackling has been more effective, and by slowing down, he is able to repeat second efforts quicker. Vanders can do similar (his flaws aren't as bad as Viney's were). The beauty of Vandenberg is that he can push forward, he is a strong overhead mark, and is an accurate set shot.

I expect big things from him (obviously), but I have been known to get ahead of myself.

Yeah, Oliver moves better (more mobile, evasive), but I think Vandenberg has better skills. They are both going to be very powerful players. It is good that we've been able to add these two - along with Brayshaw and Petracca - to our list over the past couple of years. I think we will all look back at the past two drafts as very strong drafts for MFC.

It does, but given the small talent pool they can't afford to hold off longer.  The best talent often have a couple of sports they could be playing and if only one of those is offering a contract after they finish high school then that's the one they'll go for.

Running on a slight arc is good, but I can't say I'm as enamoured with his run up as you and others.  

His success percentage is very good, but at times he struggles to make the distance from 40 metres.  And I know he has the leg to kick longer.  So for me it's a technique issue that still needs to be addressed.

They had a go at changing his set shot routine last year, he didn't like it so went back to what he knows   besides which it works

That's just the AFL reporters being AFL reporters and not knowing their facts. He had neck surgery which he has since recovered fully from.

The reporter has probably used "Dem Bones" as a source. You know, the shoulder bones connected to the neck bone, etc.
