Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

......... Something that really impressed me was Hunt’s pace. He burst away from a stoppage play with Chunk nipping at his heels until space opened up and he eventually gained 10 metres on him and kicked long down the line. All the boys and even the coaches had a chuckle, looking around at each other as if to say (did you just see that?).....

Thanks CC. All I know about Hunt is that he is tallish and can run fast. Does anyone know what his marking and kicking skills are like? Does he fit into Roos's competitors mould?

yes, but the grand final sprint means zippo. a cringeworthy waste of time

I think they're trying to change that now with letting Indian cabbies compete.

Actually McQueen, I'm pretty sure Hunt was in the sprint and he came second to a very very fast Geelong player. I would have liked to have seen Blease put forward for the GF Sprint but it never happened.

Sammy pulled out thought he might get hurt, and if he wasn't in the lead he would not chase.

Something very similar happened to me in the 1960's.

I also did it a couple of times to my skipper and he came back with I have now seen you do it twice. I guarantee you will never do it again.

He was dead right.

Re Hunt, as a footballer, he has what is called 'neat skills', ie clean hands, accurate kicking, injury issue has been stress fractures in his back, he couldn't do a lot of weight training, once he was injury free at the end of last season he was put on a intensive program to give him some size, I was shocked when I saw him at the start of the preseason -- he still looks facially like a 12 yr old schoolboy but now he has a solid AFL body which will allow him to compete, the coaches think there is still a lot of potential and improvement, so have given him a 1yr contract to see what eventuates

Interesting.  Roos almost seems superfluous.

Great management by Jackson.  Goodwin gets to coach this year and Roos takes the heat.

Perfect.

As we've seen from the Essendon doping regime, oversight is never superfluous.  Not even almost.

Good summation. I went to several pre Xmas training sessions and initially didn't recognise him, such is the size he's put on. His acceleration and speed are excellent. He looked to have clean hands, but I noted his kicking a little wayward, particularly under pressure. This obviously can be worked on, he is still young. I liked what I saw of him and that the coaches were encouraging him to take the game on and run. Really look forward to seeing what he does at senior level this year.

These days, it's never about one person being The Coach. It's a team of coaches, a coaching department, and responsibilities within that team shift around according to capabilities and requirements. The person I'm happy about as having a greater role is McCartney.

But also very happy to have Roos as The Coach. Having Goodwin taking more of a hands-on role comes down to great coaching and man-management by Roos (and Jackson).

Caligula's Cohort, appreciate the reports. In the half/full ground drills who is/are the go to men off half back besides Salem and White? Please don't say Grimes, regardless of Melksham being out I thought/was hoping they might try some others there like Stretch and ANB to see how they go with the view to giving us some flexibility. If Salem gets injured again we're stuffed....again, coming out of the back half.

I had a chat to Jayden before Xmas, asked him what it was like to be able to play again, said his skills were rusty and his kicking needed a bit of work, spoke to recruiting team when he was drafted and they liked his neat skills and speed

Great reports. Hunt's original utubes really interested me. They were Fyfe-like, ever wanting to get involved with the play including taking strong marks. Reports said that he was equally influential as Josh Kelly and our Christian Salem in APS football, then I saw him kick the winning goal against Carlton in totally wet muddy conditions at Princes Park 18 months ago and I knew he wasn't just some kid with great athletic skills as he definitely contributed to a couple more. This summer, to hear him getting more involved in the passages of play and seeing his face in all the pics has certainly been music to my ears and eyes. I certainly hope he gets that 'need to dominate' back into his AFL game when he settles in to regular games if he does because I want to see more of him. And I think Kennedy also brings something to us that we haven't had around the ball for a while; something small and snappy that we don't get in the same way from others.

Except at Bomberland cause Hird was in charge of everything

The best part of the pre season for me is to see Kent and Hunt participating in all the sessions, it is like having 2 extra new recruits

If Goodwin has an attacking game plan I want to see it.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
