Did that really say that? I'd hope not because that's a seriously repugnant perspective on what Anzac day's all about.

Essendon, drug cheats, playing on the day that honours Australian and New Zealand troops, who are actual heros and not pretend footballer ones, makes me sick to the very fabric of my being.

Their list is PUTRID! I, for one wouldn't mind seeing them go out of business ! Period!

Get rid of them and get a Team from Tassie involved!

Unbelievably they and supporters ,Still cannot accept they did anything wrong!

Get rid of the cancerous idealistic, cheats! who  put themselves above all else including the game!

OUT!

Not the sort of character I'd like at the club (albeit quite some time ago):

I had no info at the time, but Mark Harvey has told a good source that Melbourne are right into Hurley.

Now I know a lot of clubs would be, but Melbourne was specifically mentioned. The only club mentioned.

Who knows ?  He'll probably stay, but he might want a fresh start and at 24-25 he might not see a flag at Essendon.  Plenty of his mates have moved on, including Melksham.  And he'll also be familiar with Goodwin.

I hope we go hard.  Hogan up front, Hurley down back with that developing midfield could be very exciting.

I'm sure the Hawks and Pies, etc. will be just as keen.

So Hurley at FB and McDonald at CHB. Is that your thinking, PD? I wouldn't say no.

Getting Hurley would be hilarious on so many levels... yes please.

Will Hurley be able to leave as a free agent due to the whole saga, or would we have to trade for him? Dodoro would probably ask for Hogan, Petracca and Oliver at a minimum

That is the question GTG, player managers (of course they do) think the players can walk under the same clause Ryder put the Dons under pressure with. Dons think that is not true as "to much time has passed since the doping season". Articles recently on it if you have a look around.

I would think after being suspended in a big part due to EFC, the players have every right to walk out on the club...

Two things. I'm not sure if the correct word is irony, schadenfruede, serendipity or something else - but given one of the major reasons for the players being suspended was that they signed consent forms, I would have thought it would make it much harder for players to argue a breach of faith by the Essendon club as a reason to get out of their contracts.

Secondly, hypocrisy alert.  Where has all the outrage gone? Now that there is discussion of Hurley possibly coming to Melbourne, where are all the posters who want nothing to do with any Essendon player involved with the scandal?

We already have one LDC our self interest took over some time ago.

What is another drug cheat?

Unlikely to post because ProDee has already pre-labelled us as sanctimonious and will probably attack us if we do.

They finished in the bottom four and now are missing 12 of their 22 for the year.  replaced them with retirees that have no reason to care aside from their pay cheque

Morale low, talk of any decent players they have leaving. kids will get played to early. goddard will get tagged and is mentally weak so will not lead well

i am honestly tipping zero wins for them, there is a some chance of an early win, but its unlikely.  chances are Hooker or someone will leave so whats the motivation to finish second last?  miss out of pick 1 and 2

I AM ENJOYING EVERY MINUTE OF THIS!!!

Tend to agree. There best bet is trading away the current crop and rebuilding from scratch with youngsters, who are unaffected by the whole saga.

They made a solid start last draft with a couple of top ten picks, and they should be aiming to stockpile more first rounders in the next couple of drafts as well. I will happily give them one in 2017 for Hurley.

Are we playing 'Jeopardy' now?

Once the players have done their time, then you have to be prepared to give them a second chance to start again. they might still be ex drug cheats but they are entitled to rehabilitation after their sentence is completed based on their ability. to deny that chance would be double jeopardy. also the players might be clearly guilty under the code but i think most would agree that there were many more in this case who were more guilty and responsible at least ethically.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
