Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Wideman - Looks to be a smooth mover with good hands. I'm still trying decide if he'll be physically ready for senior footy. He's got a big frame & looks strong already through his core but lacks upper body strength. He doesn't look out of place.

Hulett - I'm going out on limb here, this guy can play. I can see him playing the lead up forward working up and down the ground. He impressed me today with speed, size & attack on the ball.  I also work with a guy who was involved with his junior club and says he's a freak who's been incredibly unlucky with injury.

King - Not sure yet, obviously big ruckman take time.

I'm also finding it difficult to place Weiderman. I watched he and Hullet, toward the end of lasts years training sessions, take marks and line up for goal, behind a 'faux-men on the mark.' Thought Weiderman looked good, but, might be a little out of his depth. Who knows after a strong pre-season

Hullet took me by surprise. He looked ready physically and was focused. His hands were solid and he was confident in front of goal. The inside word on his injuries and his ability has pricked my interest. Look forward to tracking his progress.

Thanks for the reports.

Ive seen a couple of preseason pictures and on the Herald sun site today, are we going back to royal blue instead of navy

It wouldn't be deliberate, simply New Balance not getting the exact same blue. Don't read too much into it.

Fabric colours can be difficult even for big companies.

I also think Hulett will be the surprise packet of the draft. He is solid enough to compete at AFL level. His fitness will need to be worked on however it can be done. Vanders is a good example of this.

Roos:  "Alright lads, break up into pairs for marking drills. Liam, you get Oscar. Kingy, you get Frosty. Mitchy, you get Joel. That leaves Weids and Jesse"

Wayne nailed most of what I saw live.

Petracca and Trengove might have an extra week off due to doing more training before the break. Lumumba and Newton presumably training inside.

Frost, Dawes, Jetta, Spencer in one rehab group.

Half our midfield - Vanders, Tyson, Brayshaw, Vince in another. I reckon Tyson must be close to getting back in full training, he's powering along.

The runs at the end of training are interesting. 4 different groups doing 200m's based on ability then after a few of them they go in to sprints. What I found interesting is that some of the better endurance runners aren't in the top couple of sprint groups and vice versa. For instance Jayden Hunt kills them in the sprints but is in the bottom endurace group, same with Garland who's low down in the endurance but in a higher group for the sprints.

Positives from today:

- Jesse looking fit and happier

- Jack Watts' running and voice

- Nath Jones heavily involved

- Weideman's hands

- Jack Viney effortlessly tackling people in clearance drills just by being near them

- Overall skill level by foot

Still think there's room for improvement with the voice and energy and I think getting out of trouble/working through traffic has a way to go as well.

I watched training for 1.5 hours this arvo.

-Trenners and Petracca were inside on the bikes. No Heritier or Newton and Pedo came out mid-session and walked laps.

-Bernie, Tyson, Gus, AVB, Neville, Spencil, Dawes and Frost made up the re-hab group who did a shite load of running. They did mostly repeat 80 meter sprints on the opposite oval and then timed efforts around where the players trained. Dawes looked super fit and outran Neville and Spencer. Frost did a lot less than the rest but didn't look too resticted. AVB was the standout in this group.

-Most drills focused on how the coaches want the team to play. E.g. where to stand at stoppages, how to defend when the opposition have the ball inside our 50, ball movement. Drills were stopped if coaches were unhappy with how they went or players were unsure about how to set up. The kids like Liam H and Weideman seemed to be the main infringes here, which makes sense.

-Intensity was very good. Everything was done at 100%.

-Dean Kent was the stand out in the session with his hard running, tackling and his voice the features.

Thanks for the info guys.

i wasn't sold on Kent two years ago, but we really missed him last year after he got injured.

i truly hope he can put a full season together this year.

Me too. I think he's got an x-factor that we desperately missed last season. His pace and hardness are both very good.

is there anything in the ASADA code which stops us from taking Weideman's hands and putting them on Chris Dawes' arms?

Not sure how injuries to his legs effects his hands when he goes for marks DD.

he is a support player who we may get a dozen games from in 2016.

if he is around in 2017 it should be at a very much reduced salary.

IMO he is not the future that will see us playing finals football.

he is never going to have great hands and he didnt at the pies when he won a premiership medal

his injuries stop him from getting to enough contests, from pressuring, making space from his man on a lead etc

1st - Tom McDonald
2nd - Jack Grimes
3rd - Nathan Jones

So he only returned to running four weeks ago post neck surgery and he finished top three?

What a man.

Tom McDonald taking out the trials is a shock. Not.
Wonder how Oscar did.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
