Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I don't understand why people hold this view. A number of posters who have spoken to Ollie have relayed back that he has no intention of ever coming here.

When I spoke to his sister at a sports function a while ago she mentioned how her family and Ollie are extremely happy with Port and the culture they have provided for not only the Wines but other families from interstate. Ken Hinkley was a big advocate in creating a strong family culture for players and families.

The vibe I got was Ollie would be a long term player for Port and no intentions of coming back to Victoria in the short term. So to me this is very surprising news and potentially one to really get massive media attention as the season goes by.

The only reason I can think of him putting off contract talks is a Victorian club has gotten into the ear of Wines management in a big way.

they're going up and down the ladder a bit, i just think he probably wants to see if they're going to stay up the top end before commiting, i think the big Vic offers are on their way now though!

If he doesn't sign with Port it will be Hawthorn.

Just a wild guess!:(

Beat me to it,

If Port were a basket case he'd be halfway out the door but I'm putting money on them to win the flag next year.

But the Hawks are a realistic option.

this is just a throwaway line which could be said about any star player at another club where there is the slightest whiff of indecision

nobody has come up though with any specific hawks-wines connection

This is good news, and I think there is a definite strategy by MFC , whether we eventually land Wines and Prestia or not, there's no doubt we have been in their ear for a couple of years now.

The ties are obvious with the Wines and Viney families, and the Prestia family being big supporters of the club.

We may have traded our first pick next year, knowing that to complete the puzzle we had one of Prestia or Wines, or both, coming in 2017.

Wines strikes me as the loyal type. Can't see him leaving Port unless he has issues with the club.

Or they have maxed out their cap - which is likely. They've signed Gray, Boak and Wingard recently. This year they also signed Dixon on good $$$$.. Ryder wouldn't of crossed over last year for peanuts - he'd be on good coin. If Wines can get 150-250k more at a Vic club - which is where he is from - then he is doing the right thing holding off (signing at Port).

If he wants to come to Melbourne then a trade will be made.

Right age group, definitely the right type of player to execute the game plan and style.

We've still got passengers in the midfield mix and Ollie would be best 22 every round of the year.

I think if someone said Collingwood or us it would be a throwaway line. Hawthorn in my opinion  is currently the most professionally run sporting club in the country. In recent years they have identified players that fill holes in their list and more often than not they get their man. They are switched on operators and have many players currently on their list that could demand more money at other clubs, with regards to Buddy they offered what they believed to be fair and didn't budge, his loss hasn't affected their success (anyone offered what Buddy/Ablett/Scully were offered would have done the same thing) In Clarkos last press conference for the year he talked about 2/2/2, that was how he envisages the departures of his premiership players. Over the next two years in no particular order Hodge/Mitchell/Burgoyne/Gibson will all be moved on (Hale and Lake this year). I don't think the Hawks plan on bottoming out as they still have so much talent on their list. They could easily accomodate Wines and as we've seen in the past, players normally get where they want to go. Call it a throw away line but the Hawks remain in the top 2-3 clubs as far as attractive options for players are concerned with the other two being interstate clubs in Port and West Coast.

Having said all of that as I stated earlier I think Port will win the flag next year.

He will not leave Port, he appears to be very loyal, unless we have a bucketload of cash (unlikely considering we want to keep hogan long term) Or they fall even further down the ladder and we have a meteoric rise. People have to remember players only have one career he won't want it to go backwards

Hawthorne will need to replace those above 4 with like for like because there is not much coming through outside there best 22. The fact they went and recruited Fitzy for depth says a lot. They will try and continue to bring in experience to fill holes when the older guys retire but if they cant i dont expect them to be top 4 in 2 years time.

well the blues need tough insiders,  & they have a habit of leaving  no rocksunturned,  in looking for their quarry.

so he would be in deemand & for high dollars... higher than signing on now.

Port don't have an endless supply of coin. Over the past couple of years they've recruited Ryder and Dixon. In recent times they've had to fork out top dollar for Boak, Gray and Wingard. I am not sure there is an endless supply of $$$ at Port. In all likelihood, Wines would be $200-250k better off by coming back home. He might be loyal, but he isn't stupid.

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
