The latest MCC News reports that our proportion of supporters has dropped from 23% in 2006 to just under 19% today .  Next best : Essendon 13% & Collingwood 12% . One good thing about being an old codger is that thankfully I won't be around when The Pies sail past our tally !

Supporting the Dees should be mandatory for all new MCC members. They would need to furnish current MFC membership card and answer a series of Demons-related trivia questions. That would ensure standards are maintained and barracking for the correct team. It would also resolve the long waiting lists.

Thirty years ago in my late teens, early twenties I used to frequent the Top Bar located in the heavens of the members. Aside from having the planets most durry/beer/bourbon proof carpet I remember it for being 90% Melbourne supporters. Your friends supporting other teams were very much in the minority. The Long room and Dining room were possibly even more Demon.

Now if I'm ensconced in the Bull Ring and there is a big roar during a game I'm still surprised to see that it was an opposition goal.

Perhaps a sustained period of success with this team will tip the balance back to where it belongs

Suprised the Tigers were not mentioned....

The Toiges proportion was given as 8% which is surprisingly low given their massive membership and more importantly the fact that the MCG has been their home ground since the mid 60's.

Back in the 1960's when introduced in The Long Room by my father to a friend or acquaintance  he would sometimes murmur to me disapprovingly "HE'S a Collingwood supporter".

I quite agree Hampton.

When I started as a MCC member, it was the MCCFC and my (architectural) schoolmate, Maxie Walker played cricket and footy both for the MCC. To support any non-MCC aligned team was disloyal and should have been grounds for censure. Personally I agree that if you don't support the MFC then you should forfeit/relinquish your MCC membership. Nothing less than 70,000 passionate Dees supporters should be the target with the Member's Reserve a sea of Red and Blue!

Just make them attend 5 min. Home games. Or pay $100 on top of next years membership. That money to go into the MFC coffers.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
