Since when does 'every player' has to be aggressive at the ball? Gunston, Hill brothers, Smith, Sidebottom are just a few player are outstanding outside players but not hard and aggressive at all.

We recruited the likes of Oliver Brayshaw Vandenberg Petracca Viney Salem to build the foundation and hard culture which is already showing. They do their best work on gamedays. This culture will grow as these guys mature.

Im sorry but McDonald is someone we cannot afford to lose.

.....  to change the clubs culture,  we need everybody onboard.  no soft C's.

the Hawks aren't changing their culture,,,   as they'e culture is already hard,   & they play  'one for all & all for one'  footy !

you don't recruit culture you adopt it.   Its 'an attitude',  'a belief',  'a desire',  a 'hunger at all costs',   its a 'non negotiable' .

So is sitting at your computer going "Yeah nah" an integral part of building a good culture, or is that just you being a troll?

well I do,  & your way is tried & true  to undo the tough culture...   how do you think we end up soft all the time at this club.  saying certain types don't need to go when its they're turn, like robbo chasing not, or Yze chasing not, or green tackling not, or bruce tackling hmmn,  white banging bodies not,  davey tackling not,  robbo keeping feet not,

no, the culture was  juuuust fine  before 2007,   wasn't it dd36.

I love Viney, but TMac is actually correct

It is stupid if Viney gives TMac a concussion, or worse, a neck injury. Then we are screwed!

Yes, agree.

On the other hand, when TMac is running the ball out of the back line and looks up to see two Melbourne players, Jack Watts (just for argument's sake ...) and Jack Viney, both marked by their opponents, who's he going to kick it to?

You want your team mates to be tough bruisers. Just not when they're playing on you.

Full contact training is a necessity at times & in our case we need to make sure the soft is well & truly pushed out.  If we had of lost a player for the next 2 weeks 'sore',  then its worth it to instill the hardness that's required & been missing in the red & blue for such big chunks of years,   since Smith the Red-Fox got tossed on his ear..

so I hear you fear of losing a player to injury thru rough contact at training...    I say so what,   sow toughness,  is what.

No problem with losing a player 'sore' for 2 weeks (though I'd still rather not). The big problem is losing our CHB for the year when he needs a shoulder reco.

Amen.. Could be our Robbie Gray

JT looked really good, bulked up in the shoulders and still has his skills.

The only thing he needs to work on is his running and that will come with kilometers.

He is the heart of this club, the middle band of players all remember him being drafted and what he has been through. Imagine you standing there in the square, the ball about to be bounced and you look around and see him, knowing what he has been through to get there. you are going to do the hard things to get the ball and the win.

No doubt about it

at the time of posting it wasn't mentioned that the arm was pinned.  see my responses in that vain of TMac just being buried aggressively...  bit pinning arms & driving down is not what i;'m talking about.

This is the exact attitude i laugh at

Trengove is not "The Heart of the Club"

if he hadn't broken down he would be wearing Yellow & Black.

We the Generational Supporters are the Heart & Soul of the club.

WYL, it seems that you've forgotten the promise that you made the other day:

WYL, what are you even trying to argue at the moment? You seem to be going in circles without actually making a point that we don't already know.

Yes, we had a trade on the table that would've seen us get Pick 14 for Trengove. Yes, it fell through. Yes, we re-signed him after the trade fell through. Now he's on his way to recovery and still contracted to us despite once being on the trading block. Anything else?

Cool. Can we get this thread back to being about Trengove's progress rather than about why he's still on the list, then?

Sure but if someone asks a question or attacks my opinion (which is all it is) i will answer back as i expect you would to

We get it. Trengove was once on the trade table and almost went to Richmond. He didn't. He's worked hard to get himself into the position that he's in today WITH THE MFC, and if he can get back on the field there is no doubt that he will give the club a lift that few others could.

This thread is about supporting Trengove as he clears each hurdle and tries to get back onto the field. He's a young player who has given everything that he can to this club, and it finally seems that he's in a position to get back to business after a very serious injury that it would have taken an incredible amount of resilience to recover from. If he does get back to full fitness, I can assure you that he will leave no stone unturned to ensure that he gets the best out of himself in the remainder of his career; he's just that type of character.

I beg to differ GTG the thread was created to establish where JT was with his rehab.

It was not created so JT could read it and get encouragement which is what I think you are suggesting above.

Poor wording, but if you highlight that entire sentence you'll get a better idea of what I mean. "Supporting Trengove as he clears each hurdle and tries to get back onto the field" is essentially the point of this thread, though I suppose you could replace the word "supporting" with "updating supporters about". Either way, it's not about going on and on incessantly about how he almost became a Tiger, something that everybody already knows.

All i am saying is that it is humorous to call Trengove "The Heart & Soul of the club" with what went down.

But of course you can wear your Rose Coloured glasses if you wish

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo
