I rate Michie.

He showed some really promising signs towards the end of the season. Was actually surprised they knocked him off the main list.

Glad we were able to rookie list him though.

Staggering decision this bloke got rookied listed instead of Jayden Hunt..

Hunt has the tools that many of our players are missing. I am pleased that Hunt is on our main list and I hope he really proves his worth this year. My tip for the biggest improver award

Viv was out of contract, Jayden wasn't.  Not so staggering, really.

No..

Both were out of contract.. Hunt got the 1 year contract while Michie got a rookie list position.

Both aren't best 22 and Michie is ahead of the other 3 rookies. There's going to be opportunities for him to play if good enough. Personally I would've rookied them both and had the list spot to elevate earlier but I'm not all that fussed.

Sending a message is a bit immature/old fashioned by Michie does need a big preseason and to play like he's on his last chance. Hunt probably needed some confidence to know the club still believes in him if he can have better luck with his body.

Window of opportunity for Viv.

We have selected a few under 21's in draft.

Lifts his running and fitness. He is a better chance than others. Roos has given him the challenge

Bigger AFL body 5+ pre-seasons.

Michie will be elevated pre Round 1. Replacing Melksham.

Who else gets elevated depends on who is LTI at the time.

“Viv probably played his best footy towards the end of last season. He gave himself a chance, but we needed numbers on the list for the draft, so it meant he dropped back to the rookie list. He’s training well and he needs to get fitter – he knows that – but he’s working hard at that area of the game. He has shown he can play AFL football, but it’s just a matter of him pushing hard now and doing everything he possibly can to get in the round one side.” – Paul Roos

It sounds like he's giving himself every chance to play round one. Will be interesting to see how injuries play out over the next couple of months and who we have available for selection.

no it doesn't

for 2016 any club can nominate one rookie at the start of the season to be elevated. after that it requires a lti

I rate Michie. He's played some handy matches for us since crossing over from Freo. I recall him being subbed on at around half time in the Richmond game last year and really imposed himself with 16 odd possessions in the second half. However, considering the circumstances, I think we need to upgrade the player who best suits our needs. Since we recruited Melksham to play as a half-back, I wouldn't mind seeing White promoted in his place.

Yes, I'm with you there DEmon Jack.

White is an aggressive, strong 188cm back with a raking left foot. I mean this in the nicest possible way but he reminds me of Simon Godfrey but with skills. I'm look forward with interest to see if he can continue his development this year.

Not hot on elevating Michie for Milkshake.

Michie is bog ordinary or he would not have been dropped to the rookie list.

Then it is like for like. Michie's recent form has been a little above VFL level, and Melksham's past couple years a little below AFL standard, I would have them on par. Would prefer to give a young lad a crack at it, bit more upside. If White is training well, then he seems the logical choice.

I similarly am an advocate of promoting White ahead of Mitchie on the basis of like for like however l would be pleased to see Mitchie also get a few games based on his most recent form.

white can be elevated at start of season. 2016 rookie rules allows any club to nominate one rookie at start of season

In our case two promotions (because of Melksham) but no "top-up" player (unlike Essendon)!

Knowing Roos, he will wait untill the last minute to promote a rookie, let them battle it out in the Pre season games and see who wants it the most......my money's on White though.

I don't and neither do 17 other clubs, he's slow, can't run out a game, he's mediocre at best. No club other than Melbourne had interest in recruiting Michie this year.

The Melksham ban certainly helps Viv out. Even if White gets selected to replace melksham, Viv would be the next cab off the rank for promotion.

Both Viv and white are a chance to play seniors footy.

No one it appears bb.

We will be one short but did you expect any more from the Pie Man

People are kidding themselves if they think Viv Michie is the answer to our problems.

Aside from his lack of leg speed and fitness, he has no defensive side to his game at all.

He'd be a poor replacement for Melksham, and I don't rate Jake at all either.

I'd rather see both White and Wagner tried first.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
