Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Well put. Thank you for your response!

Again, my primary contention is that bans aren't a good idea even for vitriolic attacks that I've seen (and which you've linked to, though there may be some truly vicious ones I have missed). It's my belief that an unfortunate aspect of celebrity is the hate/harassment they will get both in public and on the internet, and footballers, being in the public eye, will know this and be able to accept this.

The anonymity of the internet allows people to say things they wouldn't dare say in real life and that's the nature of the internet. You could curb the negativity through bans, yes, but I think this is forcing people to think a certain way which detracts from the individuality of a forum (which is the point of having one in the first place IMO). At the moment while some are negative the overall attitude towards JW is such that I don't believe action needs to be taken.

I agree with you completely though that the posts you have linked to are not normal discussion, and I feel sad that people feel the need to belittle/make fun of a player who has served our club for a number of years now. I just don't think it's ban-worthy.

you are very wrong there Ameoba... very wrong, on this account.

i don't care who a person thinks threy are,  If they get a blast,  they know it personally,  whether it be BTaylor, watts, rex hunt, michael gardiner, fraser gherig, who ever...

don't you worry about that now.... ;)

He does have the capability to be a very good player. He can Kick, He can read the play, He can tackle. He can handball.

But like a lot of average footballers he can go to sleep. He has one last year under contract to wake up.

If not then it's hibernation time for future winters.

Dropped last round of the year for blokes who have less skill but have a crack with about 5 less pre seasons under their belt.... How many highlights did watts he have that game?

Skills are important but I think some of you underestimate how team killing it is to see a teammate his size go to water in 1on1 marking contests against midgets like Bennel & Harvey. Reckon his teammates didn't drop their heads at that site? I wonder if Hogan would rather play alongside blokes who have a crack like Harmes or a bloke who occasionally hits him with a beautiful kick but is otherwise an embarrassment to play along side.

That's rubbish and you know it.

The boy can have his best year yet and there's still be microscopic (negative) analysis of the young fella.

No there won't. His intensity is always what has frustrated all supporters

we all know he has great skills

jack starts putting serious forward pressure into his game consistently then you can add another 3-4 goals to a game, maybe more.

Even you must be frustrated at his tackling style on many occasions JR....

here is a team that has not won 2 in a row for years. Jack is a part of that, but he is full of natural talent...

The way many carry on here, it's as if he doesn't go in at all. So much bs.

He's a finisher....in his 3rd year of decent coaching.

Anyhoo, I'm done...kicking back, having a quiet bourbon by the pool and listening to the cricket.

Happy New Year all.

Watts is always going to be scrutinised more than most players because of his draft position ... that is obvious even for people like me who aren't draft believers like many others are.

It comes with the territory and nothing will change unless we change the drafting system (which is highly unlikely) There is an assumption of "A grade" with a top end draft pick and that assumption is magnified for a bottom club that can't get out of the bottom reaches of the ladder.

And that magnification is even bigger when it's the no.1 draft pick .. if we were inclined to view all these draft picks as "just another recruit" then most of the chatter would die down - but that isn't going to happen.

Supporters have expectations (often unrealistic) and if those expectations aren't met they are going to lash out. It happens the same way in the NBA & the NFL ... the patterns are almost identical.

You would reckon that many Demon fans would have lowered their expectations by now but I still don't see it. Fact is we draft these kids when they're still in high school and placing an assumed expectation on these kids when they are miles off the "finished product" is quite ridiculous.

But I suppose if one is told something that is contrary to the above view (thousands of times) then one might be inclined to believe that something. Any system that doesn't work the way one wants it to work should be questioned - but we don't question the system, we question the results.

Melbourne Demons coach Paul Roos says more attention needs to be on AFL ‘feeder comps’

Quote

“We need kids to be more ready to play AFL football.

We need to fix them up and I think a significant amount of that portion needs to go to clubs, so it does allow an even competition.”

Did i ask you?

ban yourself for 2016 Stuie

jack has dropped many a crucial mark in front of goal. Nobody is perfect. But he drops to many for someone who CAN read the ball in flight when he feels like it.

Now go away Stuie

In his 6th season his new coach decides to try him as a midfielder.  Anyone with half a clue knew that wouldn't work, but it's fair enough for a new coach to try.

In his 7th season the club is still trying to find a position for him and decide to play him more as a high half-forward.  On the way to getting dropped twice he produces a stunning return of 10 goals from 20 games.

After 2 years with Roos this wonderful "finisher" is yet to produce a season better than his third/fourth.  Since 2011 he's averaged 16 possessions/5 marks; 2012 18/5; 2013 14/5; 2014 17/5 and 2015 16/5.  He never gets any better.

Second year player Christian Salem played 10 games (left the field in the 1st quarter never to return in one) and finished ahead of him in the B&F.  That's how much the club rates this "finisher".

But still doe-eyed dopes rate this player.

Absolute rubbish. You're just making stuff up now. It's fair enough to have a go at his inconsistent intensity or lack of in and under work, but given the fact he's one of our best marks along with the fact he rarely plays right in front of goal, it's obvious you're just reaching for whatever you can think of now whether it's right or wrong, and in this case, you're very clearly wrong.

Just a few years ago we had Matt Jones and Terlich dominating the B&F and coming in third and fourth. Surely you are not suggesting that puts them ahead of Dunn and Tommy Mac in value and rating?

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
