Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

AFL 2015 MOCK DRAFTS - TOP 12

Wiedemannn does seem like this years slider. Something not quite right about him.

Mathiseon butchers the ball by foot, no thanks.

Milera does look the goods, would like to get him at 7.

mostly because he has played very minimal footy, been injured

DL5 - explain what you are doing - this is bloody confusing stuff to footy fans.

Can't assume everyone understands the premise (and effect) of academy bidding.

My very first mock draft included all the academy selections. My 2nd had the top 7 players in the draft that are live and can be picked up by anyone

Not mine but Knightmare's from bigfooty:-

2015 Phantom Draft:

1. Carlton Jacob Weitering (VIC KPD)

Height: 195cm, Weight: 90kg, DOB: 23/11/1997

Recruited from: Dandenong Stingrays

Range: 1

Profile: Rapidly improving rebounding key defender.

2. Brisbane Joshua Schache (VIC KPF)

Height: 199cm, Weight: 96kg, DOB: 21/08/1997

Recruited from: Murray Bushrangers

Range: 2

Profile: Talented key forward.

3. Sydney (assumed bid) - Callum Mills (NSW/ACT - SYDNEY ACADEMY MID)

Height: 186cm, Weight: 80kg, DOB: 04/02/1997

Recruited from: Sydney Swans

Range: 1st round

Profile: Dominant inside midfielder.

4. Melbourne (via trade) Darcy Parish (VIC UTIL)

Height: 181cm, Weight: 73kg, DOB: 25/07/1997

Recruited from: Geelong Falcons

Range: 3-5

Profile: High production, skilful midfielder.

5. GWS (assumed bid) - Jacob Hopper (NSW/ACT - GWS ACADEMY - MID)

Height: 186cm, Weight: 82kg, DOB: 06/02/1997

Recruited from: North Ballarat Rebels

Range: 1st round

Profile: Dominant contested ball winning midfielder.

6. Essendon Sam Weideman (VIC KPF)

Height: 196cm, Weight: 91kg, DOB: 26/06/1997

Recruited from: Eastern Ranges

Range: 3-10

Profile: Explosive marking power forward.

7. Essendon (via trade) Aaron Francis (SA UTIL)

Height: 190cm, Weight: 86kg, DOB: 10/08/1997

Recruited from: West Adelaide

Range: 3-10

Profile: Dominant rebounding defender who also does damage forward of centre.

8. Gold Coast (via trade) Mitchell Hibberd (TAS DEF/MID)

Height 191cm, Weight: 85kg, DOB: 23/09/1996

Recruited from: Clarence

Range: 5-20

Profile: Long kicking back flanker.

9. GWS (assumed bid) - Matthew Kennedy (NSW - GWS Academy MID)

Height: 187cm, Weight: 84kg, DOB: 06/04/1997

Recruited from:

Range: 1st round

Profile: Rapidly improving inside midfielder who missed the second half of the season with injury.

10. Melbourne (via trade) Charlie Curnow (VIC MID/KPF)

Height: 191cm, Weight: 95kg, DOB: 03/02/1997

Recruited from: Geelong Falcons

Range: 5-20

Profile: Powerful marking tall who can play forward and in the future may develop into a midfielder.

I believe that he might have a rethink about the assumed selections with Carlton and Melbourne unlikely to bid against GWS but Essendon might. This would cause some rejigging of places but not change the club selections significantly. Once those bids do start to kick in however, there will be some effect with picks in the 40s turning into 30s as the northern academy clubs make their choices.

This in turn could tempt Melbourne to make some more changes in its lists to enable space for the picks currently at 46 and 50.

**PHANTOM DRAFT

1.Carl: Weitering - Done deal.

2.Bris: Schache - Done deal.

3.Syd*: Mills (Melbourne bid) - Roos will want this kid. Will make Sydney bid high.

4.Melb: Parish - Outside run and a bit of pace is what we need. He will add to the grunt we've previously added.

5.GWS*: Hopper (Essendon bid) - Essendon need mids and will happily bid for Hopper.

6.Ess: Curnow - Essendon need back up for Daniher.

7.GWS*: Kennedy (Essendon bid) - Essendon need mids and Kennedy is probably the next best mid. GWS will pounce still.

8.Ess: Balic - I think they could pick up Francis but with Curnow being that in between height also, I think they'll go a midfielder.

9.GC: Francis - They'll have to pick him up if he gets to 9. Francis could go as high as 3 though.

10.Melb: Weideman - Hogan's partner for the next decade. If not, I'd go Tucker for run off half back.

11.Bris*: Hipwood (Carlton bid) - Carlton need a KPF so I think they'll bid. Brissy will pay this price in a heart beat.

12.Carl: Milera - They need a goal kicking half forward.

13.Ade: Collins - Not a lot of tall backmen at the crows. Collins is the 2nd best KPB.

14.Bris*: Keays (Carlton bid) - Carlton will want mids. I think they'll bid.

15.Carl: H.McKay - A tall forward is a must for the blues.

16.Rich: Ah Chee - They're crying out for a small fwd and I'm almost sure they'll pick him.

17.Ade: Tucker - Too good a player to be any lower. I think draft needs pushes him to 17.

18.Stk: Matheisen - Mids is what they'll be after. They went tall last year.

19.Haw: Gresham - Quick mid which Hawthorn will like. They need young mids.

20.GC: Oliver - The Suns will love how he goes about it. Bennell out so they will want a mid.

21.Nth: Rioli - Small forward is what they need. This kid could be anything.

22.Haw: Dunkley - They'll like his leadership qualities. Another young mid for the future.

23.Carl: Burton - More like a 3rd tall, but they need talls up forward.

24.WB: Bonner - The doggies need young backmen as it's an ageing backline. Will transition from Dale Morris.

25.WB: R.Clarke - Next best mid who I think they'll get.

Help!!!!!! Someone please help me. Why are we talking about picks 4 and 10? The MFC website states that we have picks 3 and 7. I just don't get it!!!!!!

All about the new bidding system for father son and academy players. We still have pick 3, which people are predicting we will select Mills, but as a Swans academy player, they have the rights to him and can take him. In which case, we would select again, effectively meaning Mills goes to Sydney with pick 3 and we take Parish with pick 4.

There is a convoluted points system that determines what Sydney will have to give up to take him, for example, they might have to give up their next 3 picks in this draft to take Mills at 3.

If it sounds complicated, that's because it is.

Thanks for that. i think I get the process now. So we might gain one or more draft picks from Sydney if they want to have Mills?

The picks that Sydney would use on Mills would effectively be put back to the end of the draft BM. They don't disappear completely but for all intents and purposes, they might as well do.

Thus, our later picks (46 & 50) would slide up the order as all the teams that have academy players use their picks (points) on academy players. And the teams without academies will force their hands too.

As I read it, both of our late picks (46 & 50) will almost certainly end up as earlier picks in the draft order ... of course, it's supposedly a shallow draft but I've an inkling that we might have an eye on 2 late spec picks.

New bidding system for father-sons, academies

From the limited footage of Curnow, I want us to take him at number 3 looks like an athletic tall with great hands, who could push into the midfield, this is exactly the type we need and he will have the ability to play round 1, I'm shying away from the skinny midfielder types like Parish. So much more upside to Curnow.

If we don't get Curnow at 7 then most likely we will get WEIDEMAN. It seems unlikely that both will be gone even if one of them is picked by Essendon. I am sure that our FD have the strategy in place to have a fair idea who we will land.

No we don't.

They are just installed at the pick that was nominated to illustrate their proper position in the draft class.

Ok, so we were intent on getting pick 3, seeing as we had a deal lined up with GC for some time. That doesn't suggest to me that it must be Parish- but could be anyone we thought would only be available at pick 3-5 (3 players).

It could be Parish, or it could be one of the KPP's we knew would go before (even as "low" as pick 5)

What's my point? It might be Parish, or it might be one of Curnow, Francis or Weideman. I'm breaking ground.

**PHANTOM DRAFT

I ran your phantom through my spreadsheet and this leaves us with the 34th live pick and the 39th live pick.

I assumed Sydney agreed with Dunkley as a FS and took him at 22. Another assumption I made was that the end of the draft was ND95 (after the 5th round). This left Sydney with Mills, Dunkley, ND69, ND82, ND89, ND91, ND92, ND93, and ND94 to fill their list.

Pick 34 and 39 would be awesome.

I think Dunkley is making up his mind this week whether he wants to go to the Swans or not. With all their picks it totals 2,179 points. With the 20% discount they get, they will need 1,787 points for Mills at a pick 3 bid. Then they need 676 points for a pick 22 bid for Dunkley. That adds up to 2,463. Unless they go into about 300 points deficit next year, they won't be able to get Dunkley. Did you add up your points wrong or did I? haha

I agree they may just been really keen on someone that might have been picked up before pick 6 and maybe hopeful a good mid could slip through

Same here. If I could bet on it id guess pick 3 will be either Francis or Curnow.

Really wish I can see more of Parish than the minute or so of YouTube footage that I can find. From what I've seen (in highlights packages) I'd be more than happy if we went Francis 3 and one of Milera/Hibbert at 7.

Bombers could take both.

That will be handy after WADA wipes out their midfield!

Scache will be number 1. Blues would be crazy to pass up a quality big forward .

Weitering is just too good, and the blues also need key defenders

They should be able to pick up a key forward with any one of picks 8,11 or 19 anyway

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
