Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

We're locked out of trading a future 1st next year (can't trade future picks in consecutive trade periods). GCS have a gun academy player coming through next year, a combination of picks may be just as valuable as a singular first rounder, so Prestia could still be traded for.

The Suns have a few gun Academy players coming through next year, so they might want picks that have high point value

Am enjoying the banter / debate. We all see it a tad different and thats fine.

Kudos to all for not allowing it to descend into bickering and name calling.

I've no real idea who we will take but its sure to be interesting if not for who we take alone but who we don't. This might offer up clues as to where the club sees us taking steps and strides.

In past years up until recent ones I have been quite concerned. Im almost ambivalent yet still curious.

Other than horsetrading for them these might well be our last use of early picks for some time. I don't mind that at all.

Go you good Dees

You sure that's how it works?

I thought it worked something like you had to use your 1st round pick two years out of 4 or something similar. That doesn't preclude you from trading 2017's 1st pick.

My reading...i might be wrong...it hapoens

I'm on the Parish and McKay wagon, assuming Weideman is gone by 7.

Curnow seems too similar to Petracca in size and style, and given Mckay is 17 and raw, he'd be an ideal candidate for second tall with ruck time potential in 2017.

It's rare to find a KPP prospect that will have the impact that Hogan did for us this year, but we really do need to prepare our list with an eye to the future.

Which is what we've been doing in regards to talls/KPP's: King, Oscar Mac, Frost.

As everyone keeps saying, KPP's take time. Let's give them time.

Not only are the best talls at the pointy end of the draft - the best players invariably are - unfortunately that doesn't mean that the pointy end ensures a good player but that is another painful story...

Take the best available.

Good players and winning games will get him to stick around (along with a healthy wage)...

The reason I want Curnow or Weideman isn't so much for a tall forward but for a goal kicker.

I like those guys you've named but they seem suited to either key back or 2nd ruck.

We can't rely on Hogan and Garlett to kick all our goals and the best goal kickers are usually talls.

It's going to be hard to develop a more attacking team if we still only have 2 options to goal.

I don't have enough knowledge of the kids, but I hope that when we moved up to 3 it was because we really had a player in mind.

As to requirements, pick 3 should be the best available and sounds like it gets down to Parish or Curnow and you would hope that whoever they choose will play at some stage in 2016.

Given that there are at least two talls around the pick 7-10 mark, you would hope that we take one as a project player - I don't know which of Weidemann or McKay, I just hope we don't just keep getting midfielders - eg: Oliver.

The reason for this is that if we improve next year, then you would like to think that a gun midfielder such as Prestia will want to jump ship - assumes GC's problems remain however.

My hypothetical team for Rd 1, 2017

B: White Frost O.Mac

HB: Salem T.Mac Brayshaw

C: Vandenburg N.Jones Stretch

HF: Petracca Weidemann/McKay Prestia

F: Garlett Hogan Harmes/Curnow

Ru: Gawn Vince Viney

Int: Tyson, Neal-Bullen, Garland, Kennedy/Kent

Answer me this. Which has more depth right now as we speak. Our forward line or our midfield?

There is no point having a great fwd line if you only get the ball in there 20 times a game......

I think this is our last shot at building a forward line 'jnrmac', the midfield is on the improve and will take a big leap next season with Brayshaw, Petracca, Viney and Tyson all likely to step up a notch or 2

...we can then look at trading in or picking up another gun mid when we are looking a good prospect which we will.

KPF's are not so easy to get.

they had 1st rounders to deal

Yep, my point really is that a deal will get done if the player wants to get to a club and you don't have to sell the farm to get him.

A club can ask all they like but 'olisik' putting up Salem or Tyson, well it's not going to happen. I think these guys will be better anyway and we will start to see that next season.

Remember, this is the guy that says it will be a disaster if we don't take Oliver. It won't be, even if Oliver turns out to be a gun I think we will get a couple of good players with our 2 first round picks.

Anyway, don't sweat Prestia, he's good but not the only game in town. We're on the right track.

D Day for Weideman tomorrow.. Personally i am not a fan of using pick 3 on him to be honest.. we'd be silly to pass on Parish. Curnow Mckay or Weid one of 3 will be there at 7.

Any chance that one of the Clubs with academy players fails to match a bid at 2, 3, 4, or whichever pick they are bid at? Any of these clubs not have the points to match really high bids? Could we realistically end up with Kennedy or Mills?

If I am showing a lack of understanding of the system, please kick me in the rrrse and tell me to shut the f up.

I'm not sure if they can use future picks to match bids, but if not then Sydney can't match pick 1. I haven't looked into the other clubs with academy and FS picks.

You want an instant fix. The club is building a list that will compete for a flag in 2020.

Having a quality key forward to partner Hogan is part of that puzzle.

I'll back the recruiters if they use P3 or P7 on one. Quality key forwards are nearly always drafted at the pointy end.

2020? What happened to 2014???

As everyone keeps saying, KPP's take time. Let's give them time.

I agree with you in that King and O Mac need time, but I think Frost is ready (provided he's fit). The issue that I see is that two of these players seem to be better backs, while the jury is still out on whether King will make it, and if he does, what he'll be. I don't think that our KPP stocks are deep enough at the moment, and picking a high-quality tall in this draft is a surefire way to fix them.

If we do pick a KPP early on...

Worst case scenario: None of our KPP prospects come good and we have to rely on Hogan going solo or trade in a partner for him.

Likely scenario: A couple of these players make it, we find a solid partner to work in tandem with Hogan, everyone's happy.

Best case scenario: All of our KPP prospects come good and set the world on fire. We trade the excess out, and as we all know, KPPs have an inflated value in the trade market.

They've traded down so much they know they now have to match. Even if they go in deficit (which they realistically won't), we won't get Mills, Kennedy or Hopper.

Can't see us getting Prestia without trading out a Salem or Tyson. It's what they would ask for.

wont happen . In a years time Salem will be almost on par . Tyson wont be traded either. Most likely be trading picks. At years end we probably will want to keep a lot of the list. How novel.

Reading things like this excites me. I have really high hopes for Salem. Do others agree he could potentially be one of our best?

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
