Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I disagree with the order. Clarry for mine is number 1. We will find out on Saturday. Hopefully it's not Bont!

I disagree Gawny is special no ruckman has ever done what he has done. Clarry is elite but he's not special like what Gawn is and what Flower was.

A lot of love for Patrick Cripps. I'm glad he is back to his best, after carrying injuries for a few years.

Anyway, a little stat showed up last night via SirSwamp.

and I thought I would compare Clayton and how he is tracking comparably.

Well, with 13 games before he matches Cripps's  144 matches.

Clayton sits on 877 clearances as of last night.

He is averaging 8.6 clearances a match this season.

123 clearances / 8 as an average = should take him to 15 matches, and just short of the record.

I am now on clearance watch. 🙂

Wouldn't rounding it up to 9 be more accurate?

I'm conservative. Choose your own adventure @ElDiablo14 🤙

It'll be close race no doubt, hopefully Clarry is aware of this and is a man possessed for the next 10 or so games. In any case, touching wood, Clayton's career seems to be injury free so should have better stats in the end.

He also needs only 216 disposals to hit 4000.

I think the record is Tom Mitchell (137 games), with Greg Williams 2nd fastest at 140 games.

Clarry is currently on 132 games so he needs an average of 43.2 to match Tom (unlikely) but is very likely to end up in second.

Clarry did notch up 2000 Contested Possessions today is his 132nd though, which very much could be a record.

He actually does though! I saw some footage of Jordie recently and went, “what the…”

Not sure which recruiter brought Jordie in - if it was Cameron or Prendergast. Whoever it was though had obviously looked in to the crystal ball and gotten confused.

Absolutely love Clayton he is going to be remembered as the best ever midfielder to play in the ❤️💙. It’s hard to believe he is only 24 and so self effacing always passes off the compliments to fellow team mates.💕

Sorry, but how is this guy not spoken of as the best player in the competition. Absolute freak, only 24 years of age, if he plays at Melbourne until 32 or 33, he'll become our greatest ever player.

On track for his 4th bnf and 3rd All Australian jacket. Seems to be well regarded in the media these days but certainly is deserving of more adulation. I think he won't get that until he hits the scoreboard regularly, which is a stupid metric. He runs harder defensively which speaks volumes to his maturity and buy-in to a team first mentality.

On track for 138 games making him 2nd fastest to 4000 as well.

He has played 121 consecutive games too, 2nd longest current streak only behind Jack Crisp on a remarkable 173 (10th all time streak).

I agree that the media will claim it is that he doesn't hit the scoreboard, but in reality it's because he isn't doing the finishing, he is doing the extracting and set up, so they don't pay enough attention.

There is a reason he won the AFLCA Champion Player Award last year (and will be leading it again once this week's votes come in) yet the media still talks about Pettacca first.

He is averaging 8.2 per game this season, so it isn't out of the question. A couple of big weeks brings the average required for the other weeks down.

Even if he doesn't get it, amazing to think he is in the frame to be second fastest player to 4000 disposals and 2nd faster to 1000 clearances. That type of inside/outside skill mix is unbelievable. For context Cripps will need about 20 extra games than Clarry to hit 4000 disposals, and Sam Mitchell only has 771 clearances to date.

Clarry is very special in his midfield role excelling in lightning quick hands ( quickest in AFL) with amazing skill backed up by pace and good disposal.

Clarry is also the hardest most determined player I have ever seen with an elite competitive attitude. A match winner whose consistency is amazing.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
