Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Collingwood supporters disagreeing.

Every supporter over-values their own players, even when they can't get a game.

If I was a Collingwood supporter I'd be p#ssed off as well. They didn't screw us over at all. Port appear to have got Toumpas cheaply. If he's a list clogger, then they've probably broken even from the deal.

Its almost a done deal, the club has extracted what it could so that it can get on with what ever deals it can still do, better than having this play out all week. Both Howe and Jimmy were not seen to be the type of players we want. Anyone coming in to replace them would not need to do a lot to beat their stats, admittedly howe would do an occasional great thing, but it was occasional and you could not rely on him. time to move on to the next deal, maybe we can throw the kitchen sink and the toilet seat at Treloar to try to push up his asking price and to [censored] Collingwood off.

Just once I want to come out first in something.

We basically traded Toumpas for pick 50, three seasons after investing pick 4 into him.

I would rather back him in and delist him in two years than take a punt on pick 50.

I wish him luck and I wish Howe failure.

Don't forget all of the money we invested into him,

Not just his contract money either. All of the other cash for welfare, coaches etc...

By that reasoning, we should've taken four picks in the 50s and cut away 29 altogether. Why even bother with Kennedy when we can get more points for late picks?

Draft picks or points don't actually kick, mark or handball. Out of all our trades, Kennedy excites me the most.

It was a multi-way trade, you can't just pick one element out of it and pair that with a player. If you were though, it's basically Kennedy for Toumpas. Both first round draft picks, both played a similar number of games, seems a fair enough trade.

But more importantly ... the same logic as above applies to Kennedy as well as to Toumpas: if we can back Jimmy in, we can back Kennedy in. Highly rated junior, first round draft pick by Derek Hine (supposedly Mr. Magic when it comes to the draft), has had a few decent games, knows how to find the footy at least at a lower level etc. etc.

What we need to remember is that Toumpas was a Neeld pick. He was the bloke who was keenest on him, so it's not surprising how it turned out.

Our recruiting team was very keen on Kennedy to the point that, had Toumpas gone to GWS, we would have taken him at 4 that year. We've seen them make some excellent drafting decisions over the last few years, so if they believed he was that good then I'm more than willing to get behind it.

Just been confirmed on the official twitter handle of the club:

In: Kennedy, pick 29 and 50

Out: Howe, Toumpas

Kennedy for Toumpas and Howe for Melksham. Sounds about right.

Dees fans need to look at it this way. Essentially swapped Toumpas for Kennedy. Points value of 29+50 equals pick 20 for Howe.

When considering points value, that's only if you assume you trade such picks later on. If we are left with picks 29 + 50 come draft time (even though same points value as pick 20), they are ages behind pick 20.

I only look at hindsight with all these deals, drafts and trades. On paper does not look too inspiring. But then again Toumpas was supposed to be a star when we recruited him and Vince got the "meh" treatment when he landed. In a couple of years it will be crystal clear if we did well or not. It's a relief to see two more serial non commiters out the door. It does not escape me that the club was very keen on landing Kennedy and Melksham. This implies they offer something needed those other two did not. Toumpas and Howe were the kind to lay down when the going got tough and hepled drag down the team with them. With luck we may be able to snare another decent trade and good draft picks.

I'm definitely in the "don't know what the fuss is about" camp.

When it comes to the trade table, the emotional investment we've all made in Toumpas and Howe has zero currency.

The life of the lowly football supporter: you bleed for your club and players, even when in reality, they just aren't as good as what you keep believing they are.

AFL write up on Kennedy;

What is he good at? His pace is his best asset. Can burn off opponents with his run.

What does he need to work on? There are issues with his kicking. Considering his small stature, Kennedy needs to be using the ball well when he gets it but he can lack penetration and miss targets.

But we already have a Matt Jones...

Wow. So what you are saying is that our current recruiting team rated Kennedy higher that Wines? Or are you saying Neeld's recruiting team would have taken Kennedy if JT was picked up by GWS? Extraordinary.

Yeah, this is where my head is at.

Kennedy is more of a chance to play a role than Toumpas and Melksham can actually play the desired HBF role that Howe cannot.

I didn't want them traded out 'just to churn the list' with more draft picks and they haven't - we have got targeted some players and got them.

So that means we have officially blown our ability to get pick 8.

Well done MFC!!

You're assuming Mahoney is even aware it's an option.

We didn't even wait until day 6 to get a lower second rounder for Melksham.

You're in the bargaining stage, I'm still in anger.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
