Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

4.35pm: LEUENBERGER LANDS AT ESSENDON

  1. The Brisbane Lions haven't stood in the way of Matthew Leuenberger's move to Tullamarine, despite their disappointment with pick 39 as compensation for the restricted free agent.
  2. Leuenberger has joined the Dons on a three-year deal.

Mahoney up next on trade radio, can someone summarise the conversation?

Didn't add too much new.

- We would still rather deal with GC for Howe, but now that he has nominated the Pies we will try and work something out with them.

- Ben Kennedy will be a separate deal to the Howe one - we will deal with the Pies and then see where we are at in terms of being able to get Kennedy.

- Happy to get Melksham

- Still interested in Prestia FOR NEXT YEAR but said that we do our due diligence with all uncontracted players.

And that was it really.

If we're as keen on Parish as it seems we are, would the club back themselves in and trade Pick 6 and our 2016 1st Round Pick for Pick 3 and Gold Coast's 2016 2nd round pick, possibly also switching this years Pick 46 with their 35?

Surprisingly no.

I will say that Mahoney didn't sound all that happy but I could be reading too much into it. Clearly Howe nominating the Pies has thrown a significant spanner in the works!

Not surprising really. Moving up to pick 3 would have been a really good result, and who knows maybe there were also plans for other players (like Gorringe) or picks to move.

An upgrade from pick 6 to pick 3 in this draft probably has more value than any second round pick Collingwood might send our way. He's probably feeling like a whole lot of constructive time has now been wasted. I would also not be surprised if they'd lined up some other trades on the assumption the GC deal would be done.

Presumably it's the "dealing with" bit that's the spanner rather than the final outcome. There's no reason why Melbourne, Collingwood and Gold Coast can't engineer a three way trade so that we still get whatever it is we wanted from GC, Collingwood gets Howe and GC gets something it needs (player/picks) from Collingwood.

It doesnt matter as they have Kennedy and Seedsman as currency (or whatever pick they get from Adelaide for him)!

Would the pie do two second rounders for Howe and we trade that to gws for a early pick. 2 second rounds = more points for academy picks

Why would the Pies do that if they could trade those picks to GWS themselves? Obviously more convoluted with Treloar involved, but they could just as easily offer pick 7 + 2 second rounders + next year's first rounder for Treloar + pick 8.

The high value of picks no longer has any meaning to Academy clubs because they only need to accumulate points, NOT high picks. If the AFL had thought this through, they'd have banned Academy clubs from trading out their first round picks to prevent such manipulation of the bidding system, but... we're talking about the AFL here. These clubs now have more currency with a hoard of second rather than first rounders.

But leaves them with no Howe

Posted this on another thread, how would you react if it came off?

If we get two 2nd rounders from Pies for Howe, from Freeman and Seedsman deals and another for Toumpas, we could then swap three second rounders to GWS for pick 8 and Bugg and maybe another pick or player like Tomlinson.

Three 2nd rounders have far more points value than 8, which GWS need for their Academy stars.

We then get Kennedy for our 3rd rounder.

For the cream on the cake, we then give 8 and 6 to GC for Prestia and 3, with maybe another player or pick coming back to us.

Probably too many assumptions there; where does Collingwood's currency for Aish come from? All they've got left now are second rounders, present and future, to secure Howe and Aish.

Clubs will be falling over themselves to get pick 8 off GWS now; we seem more intent on sitting back in the trade room and waiting for things to happen rather than creating wild and exciting scenarios like your one above.

Sounds good in theory, hopefully they can pull it off. Would the Pies let us have Kennedy for a 3rd rounder?

Guys, this talk of trading 2 second-rounders for GWS' first pick isn't new.

It was posited on BigFooty a month ago, and I'm sure I brought the idea over here too.

I'm sure if the club saw it as a good idea, they'd be all over it.

Prestia is not worth less than pick 8 as you claim. In your scenario, we would be trading pick 8 for Prestia and an upgrade from pick 6 to pick 3, which is ridiculously in our favour

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
